So I was super excited to find this video and went immediately to the net to find it. When I finally found it , I nearly passed out at the price. $350 for jacket and $350 for bib! Looks great but way way out of my weekend warrior league so I guess it's back to the trash bags!
Appreciate the recommendations... my problem is sizing. Especially with TW's selection. It is difficult to find a Small size in these particular brands, as well as Huk, or UA, etc... I just buy Ski shells and layer up (I'm in Ontario, Canada, and you need to layer UP!) So if you're a small (like me 5'8" 150 lbs) that is another way to go.
Years ago I converted to a Drysuit vs Winter gear for boat fishing. Since I don't waterski anymore I have had my Fishing Drysuit..lol.. for the last 12 seasons and the only thing I have to worry about is being a little toasty. Hell, I can jump in the freaking water if I wanted to. Seriously just for safety reasons alone I don't know why more boat fishermen haven't converted. The kayak guys have caught on and so have Bank fisherman in the Northwest. There's tons of movement in a drysuit :-) and they start at $220 w/thermal undergear. You don't even need a good one if you're not jumping in the water.
TacticalBassin they really are comfortable but some of the old ones were a little baggie and made out of clown colors. I don't think I'd show up to one of my grandsons rainy day football games wearning mine lol... I'm due for a new one and thankfully the colors have calmed way down :-)
Stormr Stryker jacket and bib, literally nothing else compares. They're neoprene so they're warm-you don't need as many layers, waterproofing never wears out and very comfortable.
+britt murray The only issue with the Stormr is the heat. It's too insulated for a lot of environments. But if you're in a cooler climate that can be a great suit as well.
TacticalBassin definitely true, up here in WA most of the days I need rain gear are pretty cold so hasn't been an issue for me, but hiking rivers during steelhead season I do find myself unzipping the jacket to cool off a bit.
Once again great information guy's!👍It took me about 6 years to buy a nice rainsuit. Frog Toggs were what I wore up until then.I ended up with bass pro shops pro qualifier rainsuit, and what a difference! Still keep frog toggs as back up just like Matt said.Good luck next time out fishing freaks!👊💥
TacticalBassin yes huge difference! If the weather changes quick for instance a cold front moves in quick and I have under dressed, my rainsuit has saved my but big time! Not always just for rain! 4 REEL 👊💥
I know this one is “dated” but the PFD that is recommenced is a type III not a type II. A type II will keep you floating face up if unconscious a type III will not.
I always seem to end up in Cabela’s guidewear, now that I’m older and can afford the gear. It hear a lot about other brands being good, but nobody seems to have tall sizes, like I need. I’ve had fine results with guidewear, but it would be nice to see other high end (and even lower end) companies put out some tall people gear!
I love my Columbia rain jacket all I need in Arizona & its phenomenal. Now that I’ve seen your video I’m gonna have to buy some new stuff! Keep the videos coming I love this stuff!!! Thanks Tim & Matt you guys are awesome !
Just have to say you guys are awesome. Have you noticed that not only is Tackleware house sold out but Aftco is also in their Anhydrous rain gear. You guys should get some kind of kick back for that just awesome.
I vote for warm and dry every time . If you want to ruin your one day on the water that you may be able to get, cheap out on your rain gear. Once that wind penetrates your suit and you get cold, you'll never warm up until your back by a heater. I spent alot of time fishing Lake Erie for musky in November. Buffalo harbour and that area get alot of wind and big waves. Spend the money on good gear and warm boots. Handvwarmers in your pockets. You'll be glad you did .
Like others I was excited to watch this video... only to find two guys recommending the most expensive suits on the market. I could have guessed the most expensive would be the best... was hoping for a more accessible look at a few different suits in a few different price ranges. Oh well.
+Michael Jones You know, we've just never settled on those items. When it's cold We're in muck style boots. When it's warm, stick to the flip flops :-) But gloves we typically go without.
I think 💭 for over 700 dollars all use my Coleman gear for twenty bucks lasted a couple use so far that gear should put fish in the boat for that price
Duck hunters are already equipped😉 . Going fishing just minus the waders add bibs or grundens and muck boots . Keeps me from looking like a sailboater.
Have you tried the aftco hydronaut? Compared to the Gill jacket? I cant find the gill jacket but maybe they have a new name/model. Thank you for all your help and information!
This is awesome I've needed this for a long time so curious on what was worth using... I'm in Georgia so I can only use the heavy stuff for 2 months then it gets to hot. I need something that has layers lol
Love these videos and look forward to them. Can you do a sonar "how to" video? I know you've talked about it in the past. Thanks guys. Happy Thanksgiving.
Living in the North East I plan on purchasing the Gill suit. I was wondering since not many talk about keeping feet dry what you guys would recommend for dry warm foot wear? Thanks again for the great informative content.
hey matt I have a question that is off topic from this video but I hope you can help. I am going to lake fork this week and wanna throw big baits to try and catch a personal best. I'm having an issue because the weather has been exceptionally warm and will finally cool if when we get there but it will still only be low 60's and water will still be warm. so my question is in that instance is a boot style tail what I should try or even a glide bait or should I go for the vortex of a huddleston and a slower retrieve because I feel like its still too warm for a huddleston but idk. hope you can give me some advice, thanks!!
hey man I know i'm just some guy but i'm from Texas and fished Lake Fork pretty often a boot style tail will get bit for sure. The glide bait as well, and for the hud I only know a couple of guys who throw hudds on fork and they dont get bit very often on them but when they do its a stud. I don't think the fish see it too often there.
I have quality goretex rain gear, but my problem is "peeing" in a pouring down rain. The new suit bibs have a a waterproof flap such that you practically have to get undressed to go. Are there any exceptions to this problem
Does anyone know which bib or bib size would work for taller guys? I’m 6’6” and wear a 34-36 waist in pants. Finding inseams long enough is always a challenge. Any suggestions are much appreciated!
I'm thinking about upgrading the trolling motor on my boat. What's the main difference between the ultrex, ulterra, and the terrova? I really like the spotlock idea and all three of them have that capability and so I was wondering what's the main differences between them?
+Michelangelo Schenone We both wear insulated Muck-style boots. If it's too warm for boots then stick to the flip flops and dry your feet at the end of the day.
oh ok, I do have boots but I was wondering whether you knew any technical shoes out there(lower than boots, in height), which might be a bit more comfortable! Thank you in advance, big fan from Italy!
I use pvc-rubber hi-top overshoes place on my shoes, flip flops are a good way to hurt yourself, get hooked or slip on boat or docks,,. they cost about 15-20 bucks a pair.
+kedman1217 We wear Muck style insulated boots, fingerless wool gloves or no gloves at all, and drive with heavy Marmot gloves from my snow skiing days. -Matt
Great video guys, one thing I've been shopping for is a water repellent spray on or wash solution to rejuvinate the WDR in my Gore tex sitka Hudson Jacket and BPS 100 MPH gear, as we all know WDR wears off over time and enough use so instead of buying a new suit what solutions are good to use to reinstate water proofing and beading without plugging the poors in Gore tex and most other breathable rain gear?
short answer is pre 2015 stuff that is rated c8. since that stuff is mostly gone to fluorocarbon regulation (from an article on patagonia 's web site the cool stuff products toxic by products so cant be sold in any caring country anymore) you are reduced to Nikwaxs and reviveX. i just did a full Nikwaxs treatment because it was cheep and fast, though i believe a Nilwax wash and then a ReviveX treatment is supposedly the best. Cheaper jacket? 100 or below? I love to fish don’t get me wrong and I live in a cold area, MA to be exact, but I’m not spending 200 or 350 on a jacket. Sorry

Get yourself the Frabill i2 or i3....they're way better than AFTCO and half the cost
JB JB H&M had a white parka $80 on sale for $25. It’s so amazing in rain and it stays so warm! Look for deals!
I like going with light gear, then layer up underneath. That way I can use the same rain gear when it’s warm, and rainy.
I should’ve watched the whole video. You covered my comment in the video. Haha.
Appreciate the recommendations... my problem is sizing. Especially with TW's selection. It is difficult to find a Small size in these particular brands, as well as Huk, or UA, etc...

I have a The north face rain jacket that I've had since 2003, Its still wearable. The Aftco stuff is top tier though.
I always seem to end up in Cabela’s guidewear, now that I’m older and can afford the gear. It hear a lot about other brands being good, but nobody seems to have tall sizes, like I need. +DW B That's what We're here for, thanks Bud!
Simms is good not guna let you down. Carhartt i get soaked everytime. Aftco is next on the list good video guys
I’ve gotten some great results from my Simms gear
Connor Snoga I just got the challenger suit ,, does hold up to 6hrs of rain seems questionable
I love my Columbia rain jacket all I need in Arizona & its phenomenal. Now that I’ve seen your video I’m gonna have to buy some new stuff! Keep the videos coming I love this stuff!!! Thanks Tim & Matt you guys are awesome !

Nice video. Boot and glove review would make buyers guide on rain gear complete.
+Michael Jones You know, we've just never settled on those items. When it's cold We're in muck style boots. When it's warm, stick to the flip flops :-) But gloves we typically go without.
I'm still the Jeans, sweatshirt and Plastic bag guy!! hahaha. Someday I'll upgrade from hefty bags..
Ha! It worked... sort of... for a long time!
There’s cleaners and sealers for all these suits. Sooner they all leak or seep water if not cared for.
I think 💭 for over 700 dollars all use my Coleman gear for twenty bucks lasted a couple use so far that gear should put fish in the boat for that price
+Dan Saldana We dont blame you at all, we both put years in to plastic rain gear as well.

+Dan Dosreis Nice! Youre definitely dialed
Have y'all tried out any gloves I haven't been able to find any good ones
+Terry Doner Other than fingerless wool gloves we've never found a great solution. Lots of hand warmers in the pockets:-)
TacticalBassin best solution for me
Thank you Troy I'll look at them
Bass pro makes some good ones
Cables guidewear can’t go wrong with those gloves
Have you tried the aftco hydronaut? Compared to the Gill jacket? I cant find the gill jacket but maybe they have a new name/model. Thank you for all your help and information!
Perfect timing for this video, thanks!!
+James Lohry You're welcome!
Any tips for fishing in the rain while the water temps are cold? Like 50s
Awesome video yall!
This is amazing!
can u guys go over your biggest swimbaits u have and if u have any custom swimbaits, it would be super cool

Looks like aftco came out with 2.0 version. Same recommendation? Thank you much!!
Hi guys, loved the video, do you have any shoe recommendations? I’m struggling to find a good pair for those seriously rainy conditions!
+Michelangelo Schenone We both wear insulated Muck-style boots. If it's too warm for boots then stick to the flip flops and dry your feet at the end of the day.

short answer is pre 2015 stuff that is rated c8. since that stuff is mostly gone to fluorocarbon regulation (from an article on patagonia 's web site the cool stuff products toxic by products so cant be sold in any caring country anymore) you are reduced to Nikwaxs and reviveX. i just did a full Nikwaxs treatment because it was cheep and fast, though i believe a Nilwax wash and then a ReviveX treatment is supposedly the best. Does Aftco not make the all black anymore? Can't find it.
The Gill rain gear
That suit has been updated since the release of the video (thus the broken link) but this is the updated version: bit.ly/3nTGaId
@@tacticalbassin thank you.
I was legit about to buy some new gear

I personally think you should go expensive or really cheap. I don’t think you get much value or quality out of the middle ground stuff. Just get the cheap cabalas brand one for $30. Then when you get a nice coat you have a cheap one to throw around or let a friend use.
Simms challenger series? Any opinions?
i have a simms guide jacket, though it's made to pair with waders when fishing, the challenger looks more parka style. I have had a bunch of mid tier hiking parkas and jackets and i have friends with arcteryx/mountain hardware/mammut/fjallraven, and those clothes are amazing... for hiking... I can say that cloths made for the sport you are using it for is the way to go. they will have thought of the little things you didn't before you buy it and when your like "i wish this jacket.... and OMG it does do that." Nothing simms makes is budget. Is it the best bang for buck probably not, is it made for fishing, unequivocally yes. Will it last, almost certainly. Is it a direct competitor to orvis/umpqua yes. The challenger series looks like a much more universal series of clothing with the price one expects from simms, i doubt it's the "best" in the price class, but i highly doubt there would be any disappointment with the quality of the product.
