That was a great bit of computer-chair traveling. Thanks. I was stunned when the train seemed to take off into mid air but then realised that's what viaducts do.
The line from Guyaquil to Quito was under repair & may have been completed by now. The French Alsthom locomotives were sent back to France for re-building. I don't know if they still let gringos ride on the roof of the box-cars. It would be bad publicity if someone got killed.
Beautful Country and neat little towns built on the hillsides that the train goes thru ! Seems like derailments are common, hopefully at low speed and not on the sides of sheer drop cliffs !
Fantastic movie! Very professional work. Thanks! Almost every documentation about the railway in ecuador contains a derailment. Does the train derail on every trip? Seems to be quite dangerous.
I just a wikipedia entry that states that Ecuador has only 966 miles of railroad in the whole country. Without knowing anything about their economy at all I would still say that they should spend some of it rebuilding the shitty parts of their railroad system.
Can someone please tell me why street vendors in poor countries always set up their stands right on the RR tracks!?! Why don't they set them up near the tracks and use the tracks as the boulevard!?! Then when the slow-moving train (as they always are in these scenarios) comes by only the people have to move out of the way! People are easy to move! Fully set-up tables and such are not!
It happens only in places where only a handfull of trains pass, please do not generalize. it is like asking..."why people of rich countries make such stupid remarks and rise idiotic questions?"...same answer only a few of them are dumb...
absolutely beautiful ride!
Words fail me, what a fantastic clip.
LA MEJOR RUTA DEL MUNDO LA QUE SE PUEDE RECORRER IMPRESIONANTE UNA EXPERIENCIA DE LO MEJOR.

The drivers must have balls of steel to go at any speed above walking pace on those tracks.
railfan gig Yes, do you think bigger balls than the people on the roof? Tricky one.......
WoW! This is exciting and dramatic! Great cinematography. Top marks!
Back in 1976 I rode on the roof and in the cab from Riobamba to Alousi Steam on the front. The Devils' nose is amazing.
Que lindo recuerdo
Wow. Another item on my to-do list as soon as I win that lottery!!! Gorgeous images.

Estamos en la epoca de las cavernas en cuanto a transporte ferroviario comparado a los demas paises de la region.
Still a few places in Queensland, Australia, where that happens too.
Nice!!
Amazing.
super Video
from what i head Yes it does derail every trip and usually 2 or 3 times a trip.
This is sooooooooo old it no longer looks like that!!! Good lord have a look at the more recent videos on the Ecuatorian trains, no comparison.
Considering they show a Ford F-350 bucket truck from the late 90's, it can't be that old.
0:17 Awesome horn show!! :D
awesome !! thanks for the vid!!
Fantastic movie! Very professional work.
Thanks!
