    Excellent video. No terrible loud music, no swearing and it’s well explained and very informative. Thank you.

    I know the video is 2 years on but the information you’ve provided on valve adjustment is both timeless and priceless. I shall chisel my newfound knowledge above my workbench. Many thanks.

    This is a great way to adjust valves. The way I do it is a little different though. I put cyl 1 on tdc and adjust both valves, rotate the crank 1/4 turn and adjust both on 8. Rotate 1/4 and adjust both on 4, another 1/4 and adjust both on 3 and so on following the firing order. Same result just a different way. Both work great but I just prefer the second. Great video!

      I actually do that method when I cant remember the order in the episode and I dont want to look it up on my phone.

    Very helpful videos. Have a SBC in a 79 corvette that I blew the head gasket on. Good to see everything with the explanations. Putting it back together soon. So I'll be back for the rest of the vídeos.

      No problem man. Sometimes big jobs seem difficult but if you break them down to small steps it makes it easier.

    I am doing a budget build blazer right now... Actually everything i do is budget. I am doing a 305 now. Thought it was a 350 till heads came off. I replaced head gaskets and new head bolts and got cleaned up... Basically replaced all gaskets, timing chain and timing chain cover.

  • @johnnyohman8847

    When we were viewing that head, you should have pointed out that they were big port 202 heads and explaining the camel hump compared to other markings there to quickly identify different heads like 194, 198 or 202. A printed chart would have worked great. Love your vids. I also have a 68 El Cameno BB at this point with a extra SB so same idea really.

    9:40. Tdc is a crank position not a cam position. Cyl 1 and 6 are both at tdc at the same time, but only one of them has both valves closed at a given tdc.

    13:29. It is imperative to check that all the hydraulic lifters are not collapsed prior to torquing down the rockers or they will be way too tight. The sbc motors have a rep for collapsing or sticking, so always pull them all and inspect.

    Great Job Like the casual nature of the Video and good camera work. I am doing my heads on 71 Vette SBC 5.7 with fuelie heads. Nearly all my stock block head bolt holes are drilled thru water jacket and need sealant like they had on removal inspection. Is this an early block thing or was the white threadlock on your New head bolts sufficient to prevent leakage?? My new Fel-Pro head bolts have same white junk on threads...Many Thanks and can you do a video on setting timing with high lift cams and an adjustable advance timing light?? Thanks Lou

    • @BudgetBuildGarage
      @BudgetBuildGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for checking out the video! Sounds like you have a fun project car. Pretty much all of the head bolt holes are drilled all the way through unless you have an aftermarket block with blind holes. The white thread sealer on your Fel-Pro bolts should be sufficient. I have used those exact ones many times and as long as your head isn't warped or cracked and you torque them properly you shouldn't have any problems. I am planning on doing a video on how to adjust your engine timing.

    • @lad63bird
      @lad63bird 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fantastic, I will go with the white threaded junk and take your advice. Looking forward to an in-depth timing video. So few cars even have adjustable timing today, I had to explain to the kid at the auto part store what a timing lite was ? lol

    • @BudgetBuildGarage
      @BudgetBuildGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you already have the bolts I would check to see If they come with directions that say they have already been thread sealed and don't require any thing else. I'm pretty sure the last set I bought said that.

    • @thomashayes7423
      @thomashayes7423 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      lad63bird hey head studs. They provide better clamping surface and most head bolts are torque to yield. Which means you can only use them once. The studs have lock washers and nuts. Which can be used more than once

    I uave a 95 chevy k1500 350. Just had them replaced I've got the heads back on valves adjusted however when i turned it over to crank she doesn't crank. Any suggestions. It seems like shes not getting any fuel in carb. Gonna check gaslines next to see if pump is working. It only sit about a week n 1/2. Was running fine b4.

      You can literally look into the intake to see if gas is being injected or not

    When adjusting for zero lash... Are you feeling for slight drag between your fingers while spinning the pushrods or when you can't spin it at all then adjust?

  • @deshaunspencer6985

    Hay, I pulled my cylinder head off and found a gap/burn in the gasket
    between the cylinders. When I looked down the cylinders and saw no cross
    hatching, do I need to hone them? Can I hone without taking out the
    pistons? I wasn't burning oil. Thanks

  • @johnmilner7603
    @johnmilner7603 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Do not spin the push rod, it’s not accurate, use the up and down movement only to get to zero lash, then go 1/2 turn down. I use the EOIC method which is more accurate than what’s in the shop manuals. No music needed too. GM mechanics used 3/4-1/2 turn from zero lash so the customer didn’t return complaining about noisy lifters.

      A half of turn on all of them once zero lash? I dont have to touch them after that?

    • @moosemanprophet5942

      There are studs on the block that hold gasket and the cylinder head in place so it wont slip off the block

    how did you know it wasn't a cracked head? i have water in more than one cylinder so im going to replace my heads with some from an auto zone distributer $250 per head with a warranty. the pistons were replaced by the guy who owned it before me who the hell dose a bottom end without doing the heads not me!! anyway its got pro comp pistons in the block and compression is real good so going to put it back together and hope for the best. oh its a 1970 el camino 350 5.7 engine like yours. Ok, I love your videos on building and tuning engines. But, FYI, while some experts may enjoy music while watching an instructional video. Many new people, who are trying to learn how to correctly do the specific job, following along with somewhat exact procedures as not to damage hundards or a thousand dollar engine, do not like the distraction of music, yes, I know. It's not as cool if music is not blaring in the background. And, after all, it's not school ! So we can chew gum and boom music if we want. But, I wish I could hear what the teacher is saying so I can learn. It's just a distraction, more so, if you've just discovered that you are going to haft to rebuild both your heads on your 79 chevy 350, and you have never done it before. And you are nervious and can't find clear instructions because you can't here the teacher. Otherwise, I can tell, you are trying your best to make everyone happy. People learn differently. I just wanted to express that background sound, no matter how artistic, is a distraction that reduces the average person's ability to focus and can cause the person to haft to replay the video over and over just to pick out 1 important fact (in general). But, Thank you! For helping people to become educated on these engine topics.
    I only hope, that unlike Fishing, Manufracturing etc, etc. That the U.S. will keep Fossel Fuel Engines. It's not fair that China get's to do all these things while we are not allowed to keep our Heritage and Birthright's
