Kim- a safety suggestion for you. Remove the plastic/carbon stick-on “T” logo from the steering wheel airbag. If you get into a crash, it will come flying off at about 500 mph and poke into the driver’s face like a Chinese throwing star. Ask me how I know….😅
The seatbelt and the phone gave me mad anxiety being in Australian where you will legitimately lose your license if you’re caught, touching your phone twice, same with seatbelt
One issue i noticed with FSD that is scary is when it is entering on a highway with oncoming traffic, or if its in the first lane and someone is entring the highway. It doesnt quite have my confidance to avoid possibly causing an accident.
One of the only to sacrifice their fsd for a youtube video. Thanks alot. One thing I found interesting is that when it came up with the red hands, it didn't make the quick loud alarm as to "wake" the person up or something. Maybe it's different/changed for FSD vs regular autopilot.
Have been together with my wife almost 20 years also 🎉. Seeing both of your interactions, I can feel the similarities in our relationship 😂. Wishing you two many happy years to come.
@Kim Java You can get a strike by cellphone use, wait for the blue flash then grab the steering wheel to stop the blue flash, but start using the cellphone right away again it will strike you out immediately for multiple uses in short periods of time. I also got a strike for adjusting A/C controls multiple times in a row, that was last year though.
Yes, that would be a more down to Earth pricing. Will Tesla ever drop the prices sometime after betas are completed? Only time shall Tell if they keep FSD as a very expensive luxury item. Or unless you want to be in debt for the rest of your life with this feature. Myself, I don't see a practical reason for having FSD, and not at that pricing.
Yes, it's sort of strange that they have priced it so high for general use. I really hope they come up with the solution of cheap (maybe even free) for personal use and then higher priced licence for RoboTaxi. It's not like a huge portion of private owners are going to be putting their personal car into the RoboTaxi pool, but it is probable that a large number of those same people would send their car away to find a parking spot, etc.
I disagree. But I also don't want a computer doing the driving. Self driving is for lazy people and people that don't appreciate the thrill of driving.
Really appreciate your sacrifice for the demerits for all your fans. You guys ROCK! Thanks for the education and confirming what we suspect. BTW, I also got dinged by using nag defeat, not sure if it is still the case.
Kim, thank you, you answered all my questions about FSD Jail. I recently got two strikes with my Tesla and didn’t know what would happen after the third strike..
Thanks, Kim, for this personal sacrifice. My 2017 model S does not have a cabin camera, so I'm only allowed 3 strikes. I also get strikes that should be identified as a "software error" but can still be counted as a strike. The only one week jail sentence is a blessing for me. It is much less painful, and more fair than previous rules.
Nope, it’s not hard to get put into FSD jail. The real issue is how do you get back in, no? My MY doesn’t like when I put my hands on the bottom of the steering wheel. I also noticed that the blue flash on the screen can be difficult to see in some sunlight situations…that is how I got a couple of strikes. These WERE NOT WARNINGS!!
I just picked one up, but how long does it take for full self driving to unlock? It’s been about 10 days. And I only have access to enhanced auto pilot, but I paid for a full self.
Cool. I'd also be interested to know if the car loses 'new' strikes if you reboot it right after the strike. This used to flush out the memory before it was stored, for safety score at least. Not sure if Tesla fixed that.
Older Teslas without cameras inside only give you three strikes. I have had two what seemed to be random spontaneous strikes for a couple of months and I wish they would reset those. I hate to be unexpectedly cut off if I get a third strike. I have had FSD for almost a year so doesn’t seem those two strikes should go on forever.
Another way to get a strike, I had a case where the sun was in my eyes and after 3 warnings pay attention to road, it gave me a strike. And I was holding head angled down, to use eye brows to block sun. That generated 3 Pay attention to road. The 3 warning was autopilot jail and a strike. That started with 11.3.6
Hi Kim We just returned from a 3199 mile road trip in our Tesla MY DM LR 2023. We drove about 80% on fsd beta. It made a couple of mistakes, but I was ready to take over. We drove from south Florida to Pensacola up thru Mississippi to St Louis. On the return trip we drove thru Atlanta on the way back to South Florida. We drove thru Atlanta on fsd with no intervention. We were impressed. As you know Atlanta traffic is bad 24/7. For part of the trip in Mississippi we took an alternative route off the interstate for an hour and a half on a 2 lane highway through the country. Lots of turns intersections and stop signs and traffic lights. One intervention. I doubted the car. It knew what it was doing, I doubted it. Very impressed with fsd. Worth every penny (12,000) I'm sold. Thanks for the great video Bob
I have been using autopilot and it has some quirks . It seems to alway go off the painted traffic lines. But of course when there is construction there may be old lines and new lines painted, this seems to confuse it. The center lane driving feels really creepy next to big vehicles and in construction zones when lanes may narrow. I have had it complain about lanes changes on an on ramp when I run out of on ramp and merge.
I've been in FSD beta for nearly two years and you have to really try pretty hard to get five strikes. In my experience, it takes some pretty reckless driving. As far as the driver taking the seat belt off, I'm surprised that's only a warning and not a strike. Driving down the road removing your belt and messing with a coat or whatever is a very dangerous distraction. Also, I've never seen a warning due to eyes not looking forward; always seems to limit to hands-on-wheel.
The belt being undone is probably a strike if it continues for a set period of time. What if someone has clipped their jacket into the seat belt for instance, they need to be able to release that without a strike.
I've been knocked off way too many times. The worst one. Driving at night on 55mph 2 lane. The car had been giving me stupid warnings about cameras and the car was clean and weather clear. It decided to do a reboot. The screen went black while the car was in motion. I let it slow to a stop. When the screen came up, it had me in Jail. Considering the number of times FSD fails and I take over, the car should be in jail. Fails on uturns on divided highways, fails at lane changes on the freeway., fails to get out of a barrel lane when it's closed, makes random turns against the navigation, exits the lane it needs to turn from, moves out of the right lane excessively. My last week suspended was while in Tesla Service. My wife thinks this car has a software problem independent of the FSD version.
Regarding Tesla insurance, is it true that "points" are deducted, or the rate increases, if you take the car into certain areas at the wrong time of day/night? A reddit forum seemed to indicate they have to take their gas car to concerts at night or the Tesla insurance would be affected. True?
@@jasonfournier Really? Is that documented somewhere... i.e. by Tesla? Or is it just Internet babble? "I heard that someone heard that someone else heard that..." yadda yadda yadda.

Semi-autonomous system. By the way, I have difficulty communicating because I had a stroke in Broca’s area, the part of the brain that controls speech. 2/8/2021 but I lived again. (My wife helped me compose this.)
Tesla FSD keeps giving me a false strike even tho my hands are on wheel. and sometimes when im looking at my passenger briefly. and couple times when the car hits a road dip especially before a bridge or tunnel. It's annoying and unreal.
It’s dreadful that it can strikeout while my hands are on the wheel and I am driving on a straight road but I don’t see the blue flashing because I’m looking at the road.
I want FSD to add speed options: let us input a “cruising speed” - i.e. +5% over the speed limit, and a “passing speed” - i.e. +10% over the speed limit to pass another vehicle. FSD already allows us to offset speed limit % for normal driving, so why not allow different percentages in different situations? If I’m doing 70mph and a car in front of me is doing 69mph, it’s a lot smoother passing them at 78mph and briefly being in the passing lane vs. passing them at 1mph and clogging the passing lane for much longer.
Looking ok for city and highway use put it were i like to drive- ride you have to look backwards almost to see traffic and you watch the road from either side of the car but they should raise the standards of some rules but letting you go and look out all windows so you can go through the back woods areas
My magnet on my phone was not working through a new case. So I was having to hold my phone multiple times just to see if something would come up. It's very difficult to see it when it's on the charger below. All you have to do is get flagged for a phone one time, if you continue touching that phone it immediately does flag you. It's not a warning except for the first time.

my question is what period of time does the 5 strikes occur? is it 5 strikes ever or per what. After the one week do you get a reset to 5 more strikes or does every strike thereafter cause a loss of FSD.
Thanks for this great test and video. I’m surprised no one else put this on YT. Neither of the two Teslas I purchased have FSD because it is too expensive for what it does. I’d pay $3-4K max. I’m very disappointed with model S autopilot not performing lane changes using directional signal. Please don’t ask me to pay $6K more. My EQS 580 performs that perfectly and it was included in base price. We also have a 2020 MB E450 convertible that performs very smooth autopilot lane changes.
"I’m very disappointed with model S autopilot not performing lane changes using directional signal." Haven't had that happen once in four years with my M3. A vehicle-specifc issue like that would warrant scheduling a service appointment with Tesla to remedy that?
I recently got my one week suspension after 6 strikes. my question is: when the suspension is over do I get 6 new strikes, one strike or some other number when the suspension is over?
I wonder if all this info about strikes etc is sent to the insurance companies to determine rates. Similar to the devices they have to determine driving habits of drivers. I would like to know if they charge higher rates for fsd usage, since the driver is not in full control of the vehicle?
I have four strikes I'm almost afraid to kick it in again some of the strikes I don't even really know when they happened. It would be nice if you had a log or something to reference or if they sent you an email explaining what happened. Are you saying if you get five strikes after a week you'll be reinstated. Do you get the latest version or do they keep you back a few? Great video Thanks for doing one like this It verifies some things. Thx ✌️
I have one strike from LIKE A LITTLE SECOND. It was the first time and I let go because I thought it was taking a left turn by itself but then got a red light so weird 🙄.
I almost got rear ended because I was paying attention to the road and I didn’t notice the blue flash and the car slammed on the brakes 😢 be careful out there hope Tesla pays for any accidents they caused by not safety stopping
Thanks for all this testing for "when do you get strikes vs warnings". My question is do all these warnings/strike information get logged and sent back to home base somewhere??? Maybe to determine you are a really bad driver if all this continues to happen. Also, what does FSD do for warnings or strikes if you get a "Phantom Braking" issue and is not your fault???? It is nice that the system is more forgiving. I do not own a Tesla at this time. Thanks again for this video.
I bought FSD in 2018 was activated in early 2022… one lesson i learned never pay for promised tech… it is fun to see the progress tho….didn’t buy it again on my next car;) also the other thing is the resell value of fsd is really bad… the market doesnt reflect Elon’s promise of higher value. All that said i loooove Tesla;)
AP is great. FSD is amazing on hwy, sucks on two lane roads and is unusable on side roads. Current version is worth $50 a month max…. I’m killing my subscription on the 22nd have done at least 5,000 miles with FSD since may 23.
I just rented a Model 3 for 3 days in Vegas (for a trip to Utah) and when I learned that this car didn't only have Autopilot but also FSD (!) Shortly after I started using it, I was still learning the ropes and missed the window of the blue flashes and got a strike (D'oh!). I was really concerned that I might put FSD at risk with the owner of the car, but I was very relieved at the end of this video to discover that even if it completely strikes out, he'll get back a week later. He has the app and monitors for everything happening with the car, so he probably knew what happened. I'm surprised he didn't contact me about it (I'm more surprised that he even let FSD be enabled, for a Turo rental). BTW, it was my first time driving a Tesla and I can see why people feel like never going back to regular cars after doing so! Wish I could afford one.
I paid $5k for EAP back in 2018 when I bought my Model 3 and then a few months later paid $2k for FSD. I wouldn't pay more than $2k for FSD again, so if I ever get another Tesla guess I won't be buying FSD because $15k is insanely overpriced, even $5k is too much!
I wouldn't get too excited about some of what you're encountering. For instance my 2018 base model Accord warns me to put my hands on the wheel and will also warn me I'm drowsy with a coffee icon and warning. I don't think being on your phone is illegal everywhere. I guess it could reference your location and whether it is illegal there.
Thank you for your video. Question did you got it back right after one week or it was more than one week and what happened after did you need to go through the whole driving score or it was automatically got activated

Here it is tinyurl.com/4evts2ru
Be sure to use code KimJava to get a free S3XY tumbler. Just add it to your cart first.
@@ItsKimJava sweet thank you!!
I have one strike from LIKE A LITTLE SECOND. It was the first time and I let go because I thought it was taking a left turn by itself but then got a red light so weird 🙄.
Whoa!..., 😮, I didn't know that it has rules!....😲😲😲, interesting...
Do you know if it’s the same penalty for autosteer?
I'm sure there are articles in regards to the FSD beta strikes. One's personal FSD beta feature isn't worth the sacrifice for getting strike outs.
If you're in auto drive, what difference does it make if you pay attention or not? Shouldn't you be able to take a nap while the car drives?
This video was so funny I've seen one quite like it!😂😂😂
I feel safer when driving with FSD, but when they remove the FSD is very stupid. Is like having a seat belt disconnected to punish you for something.
In the 'Sin Bin' for a whole week! A small penalty in reality.
However, some will struggle with that, particularly if they love using FSD.
If you buy a car second hand that has FSD does it transfer over to the new owner?
Yes......FSD is stuck in the car
Thank you for your video.
Question did you got it back right after one week or it was more than one week and what happened after did you need to go through the whole driving score or it was automatically got activated
How hard is it to get it back?
Do I get a refund if I am lock out?
Taking one for the team like the legends you are. Thank you!
Once you said, “If you’re lucky enough to have access to the Beta program………..” I was done at that point.
How does the autopilot know that you are using your phone ? Does it detect radio waves sent out by the phone ?
Interior camera
Can you get your money back for example around 25 bucks that week?
