Slightly unrelated, but when you said "she has a habit of going in circles...because she was kept in a small cage" all I could think of was how many human beings who were abused or neglected as children seem to limit their own potential later in life. Poor little thing. She had to be really unhappy to self harm like that and pull out her feathers. I have seen that before, but she is the most severe case I have ever seen. So nice to see she now has a loving family.
@ Most often, no. While naturally fallen feathers are likely to regrow.. Self-plucking in birds usually results in damage to the skin, causing inability to grow new feathers.
This is one of the most precious things I've ever seen! The birds pick their person ❤ My husband and I have 4 rescue parrots and we adore each of them. They all have their own personalities and I can't imagine my life without them in it.
yes birds are very smart and loving if you give them half a chance...some live a long time and people are getting tired of them. They need to be with people
Birds ARE intelligent but as most of them are wild we don't often get to realise how much they are, unless we rescue them and they become domesticated.
It breaks my heart when I hear of animals being neglected. That is such a breach of trust with a vulnerable creature. Bless your hearts for giving Fefe her Forever Home and all the love she deserves ❤️ We reap what we sow, and I know that the love you give her is returned a thousand time more.
@Red Hatters Having Fun I believe that the feathers wont grow back when the bird plucks them from anxiety. They end up damaging the skin making it impossible to grow back.
When birds pluck bc of stress they never grow back again (specially in a case as severe as this), but as long as the bird is happy now It isn't that bad. She can have a great quality of live anyways
We have a gray red tail. No they never grow back , if you see a parrot is pulling his feathers out . Then you know something is wrong , most of the time out of boredom in a to small cage .
That is adorable, any man who can be this loving and compassionate to little animals and birds is definitely a keeper. So glad Fifi has a lovely life now ❤️
She had to of repeatedly plucked her feathers out for them not to grow back at all. Birds naturally lose their feathers, so they do grow back. Sadly, due to the stress of her previous situation is most likely the reason she will never be able to grow her feathers back.

Aqua Juwel, Oh absolutely, it just takes time is all. She’ll be even more beautiful before she knows it. As long as she is relaxed and loses her anxiety, she will be good. I cannot imagine this one not growing her gorgeous feathers back. Great question.
She probably have a skin disease, she can't pluck the feather on her own head and even with good care its really hard to stop a bird from plucking its like a bad habit.
According to google, it varies. They can, and they can't. If the tissue that the feathers grow in is damaged by plucking feathers before they're naturally ready to be lost (via molting iirc?) then the tissue can be damaged to the point where feathers can't grow back anymore. If I remember right, most plucking cases like this don't grow feathers back (birds in bad/stressful situations can tear their own feathers out from stress) but hopefully she can grow at least some of them back. At the very least, she's clearly in a very loving family now~
Thank you so much for giving her so much love. I cry tears of joy for every bird, mammal, etc. who can be their full self. I just wish all mankind could be as aware as you two are of the joy they can bring to us. Bless you both.

They also pull their feathers out when they're stressed or depressed

Aqua Juwel,
Oh absolutely, it just takes time is all. She’ll be even more beautiful before she knows it. As long as she is relaxed and loses her anxiety, she will be good. I cannot imagine this one not growing her gorgeous feathers back.
Great question.
One can hope so, but this charming bird has an adorable personality thanks to new family
At the very least, she's clearly in a very loving family now~
@ They can grow back ONLY if the bird hasn't damaged the hair follicles by pulling the feathers out prematurely.
