    Very cool video setup. I love how you have the double view and you show all angles. Gives a viewer the sense that they are on the kayak with you. Thanks for all the great ideas not to mention the awesome pike you landed by yourself in a kayak without a net. I can only aspire to make catching a pike like that look so easy. Clearly your a very experienced fisherman. I took notes and am thankful I watched your video. I hope to be posting some videos of fish like that as soon as the ice breaks next spring.

      @ndyakangler  9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I think the landing on this fish went about as smooth as I could have hoped for. I'm always a little nervous grabbing them like that when they have treble hooks hanging out of their mouth.

      @@ndyakangler this is the one issue I have with most fishing videos.. so few of them show how to handle the fish safely and how to safely remove hooks properly.
      Thanks for showing the whole process

    Your videos are about the least annoying fishing videos I've seen. Thank you for that! Sometimes I just want to see techniques and the action instead of hearing an annoying person or loud music. Nice work overall! Your voice kind of sounds like Atz Lee from Alaska: The Last Frontier. It's nice listening.

    Great clip! The sound of that spinning reel's drag once the fish first figured out what was happening told the story. And when you are by yourself in a tiny boat, one never has enough hands. Had that been me, that fish caught in that way would have made my whole summer!

    You know it's a good fish when it has the power to move your kayak. I'm always amazed by your ability to maneuver the kayak while casting and fighting fish. It is a quirk of pike that they let themselves be dragged next to the boat while still having enough energy to explode when you try to net or touch them.

      I have a few projects I’m working on at home but I still have a bunch of videos to upload when I get back to editing. Some of my best trips last summer the videos are going to be long ones so I didn’t get the time to edit them during open water season but there’s a few really awesome videos I have yet to upload! The next couple months are a little slow for fishing vids on TH-cam so I’m not sure yet if I’ll just upload a bunch of shorts the next couple months and save the longer uploads for closer to spring.

  • @caryverhalen
    @caryverhalen 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lesson learned here I hope? When you are in a body of water with toothy Critters either a big net or lip grippers are a must. I've even seen the kayak cradle attached to a cleat and drapped down in the water and when the musky or Pike parallels the kayak you raise it up and they calm down immediately when they're wrapped.

    @Mymh13 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Best vid I seen so far of a pike catch from kayak. Not because of the size of the fish, but your handling of it is excellent. The paddling technique while drilling, the proper gripping over neck and then the geel rather than using a lipgrip, and most vital for this video: getting multiple angles covering what you're doing.
    Grats to a nice catch too! ;)

    • @ndyakangler
      @ndyakangler  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! I quit bringing the Boga the last few years so I could force myself to become better at handling pike. I've had my fingers sliced up a coupe times and a hook from the spook imbedded in my thumb when a pike the same size as this one thrashed while I was trying to grab it but I've learned a lot from my mistakes.

    Id recommend adding a clip on the side or in front of the boat to hold your paddle. I used a broom clip and it works good to give me a way to get the paddle secure when I'm fighting bigger fish. Also add a pole holder so you can not lose a pole when you're landing fish. Nice job!

      Thanks Jerry! This pike was pretty cooperative once I was able to get a good grip on him. I caught a nice musky last week too, had to pack light on that stretch of river but I had the hat cam with. That footage came out awesome! I'm hoping to get the video done tonight but there's some audio work I need to do to keep it clean.

    • @JerryLester
      @JerryLester 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +NDYakAngler My rear cam is such wide angle that I can't see the lure landing well. Could be because I'm in open water and I cast 40 yards from the boat. I still like a cap cam best, even those it's jittery. Haven't been much because it's too hot here in Florida.

    • @ndyakangler
      @ndyakangler  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not straight 10lb mono like I was using here lol. If I was targeting pike I’d probably go with 20-30lb braid and maybe a fluorocarbon leader since a steel one might mess up the action of the spook.

    I was expecting the first explosion at the boat, but the second one made me jump as if I was in the boat. Big pike are always a trip. One jumped right into my son's lap in a sit-inside yak. Anxious moments there with all the thrashing and the big teeth and the loose treble hooks flying around.

    Do you tie that Spook straight on or use a clip/ swivel for best action? Also sweet videos man! I live In Minneapolis and it gets me hyped as hell to get out! Keep it up👍🏻

      I tie directly to the spook with a Trilene knot. Some type of loop knot might give it a little more action but I retie often and the Trilene knot is easiest and fastest for me. I'm looking forward to bass season opening in MN in a couple more weeks!

    Excellent way to fish and a great fish you caught rather by accident You can see how your a new to kayak fishing camera action is good Before I bought my Kayak I watched young people like yourself go through the action you found while Kayak Fishing I bought a used Hobie Kayak a peddle and paddle system with a rudder the absolute best way to fish rives lakes and some streams in 5 months of Hobie Kayak I sent new personal bests for Pike 52 inches Muskie 58 inches (( using a berkley fish gripper it grips the lip of the fish so you can unhook safely )) Large mouth bass 9 lb Many fish caught most of the larger ones caught while trolling using the peddle and rudder system very easy

    I caught a bunch of these pesky pike while fishing in upstate NY in June/July on the spook going for bass. Fun to catch! Nice video!

      Thanks man! I don't catch many pike on this river but when I do they're usually big. They slam the spook too, I had a couple nice ones jump clear out of the water when they hit it earlier this summer!
