You sir deserve about 1 million more subscribers. Hands down some of my favorite freshwater fishing content. I stumbled across your videos a week ago and am watching pretty much every one. Excellent work.
These videos are so beautiful. Makes you feel like you’re there with him enjoying that beautiful environment and tranquility. Awesome accent too 👋 Cheers, from a super fan in Australia 🇦🇺🙏
That was awesome lol. Just spots a school of big cats hanging on the bottom...paddles over to an island and paddle chops a frog in two and picks off a couple fat cats 😂😂😂 this guy is awesome
Frog tip: bullfrogs will hit a lure if you dangle it in front of their faces. Something like a small, brightly colored rooster tail is ideal. Don't know if you have bullfrogs up north, but it's an easy way to catch some.
Thanks from Melbourne in Australia. We can’t fish for at least another month so these videos are keeping me entertained. Can’t wait to hit the lakes and the bay.
Thanks Gordon! I’m looking forward to getting back out and getting some new footage! A few more weeks and the smallies should start getting active here in ND.
Your paddle chop skills are as high as your smallie catching skills. I hate watching your videos with ice on the lakes - always makes me want to load up my kayak NOW
I have no idea how i ended up here, never watched any fishing videos, never was into fishing apart from catching some roaches and perches years ago but im definetly staying. Your videos are awesome, keep up the good work :)
Luckily I paddled by that island earlier and saw a ton of frogs so I knew I’d find some bait there. I should really put a small box of tackle together to keep in my kayak for catfish, panfish and anything else I occasionally come across a school of. I remember finding a school of crappies a couple years ago and having to throw bitsy bug jigs at them lol.
Nice improvised fishing video. I did the same thing last summer and got a channel catfish on the Ottawa. Not from a kayak though. Them smallies love frogs🎣
Love this Channel, when I learned to fish a long time ago you went to a creek with a few hooks and split shot with no lures or bait. But you had some type of 2-3 ft seine to catch some bait and if you have a hellgramite or leeches or craws on a hook it was guaranteed success. You should seine some awesome bait from the beautiful creeks you fish
Don't take this the wrong way... I'm not criticizing cuz I enjoy your videos, but you remind me of a mixture of Bob Ross and Mr. Rogers gone fishing! Keep up the good work!
Im amazed at how natural the banks in most american rivers are. Here in germany most rivers are either straightened, or have massive rocks on the bank. It just looks unnatural and really ugly lmao.
Those Channel Cats sure do deliver a fight. I caught one on a fire tiger spoon from Len Thompson last friday while aiming for Walleye and Pike, I definitely was impressed!!
My favorite spot to spend an afternoon! We’ll have to go there when you come up this summer. I did pretty well wade fishing up past the island last year.
NDYakAngler can't believe I didn't hit that last summer. So much to do, so little time! I've already warned my wife that I'll be gone a little longer this summer. :-)
I love your channel its simplistic, helpful, and utmost entertaining. By the way what are some of your favorite rivers in Minnesota? its the state I love and love to fish. once again thank you
This is from last July. I spend a lot more time fishing than editing during summer so I have a ton of footage I never got around to. We're still waiting for the ice to melt here too. It won't be long now though, I'm hoping to get the kayak back out on the river in the next few weeks.
The age-old hand landing a channel catfish dilemma...Lip it like a bass and have it vice grip your thumb or risk punctures and grab it? Haha. I love me some catfishing!
@@ndyakangler It's like YT knew that 'cause this video kept popping up on my recommended lol. Can't wait to see it! I'll be hitting the cats back up in fall.
Thanks! The biggest catfish I've caught from the kayak was a 20lb channel cat. I've never caught a flathead. I'd have to drive 4-5 hours to get on some water that has them but it's definitely something I'd like to try!
Do you have any tips for the condition of kayaks? Mine seems to get scraped on the bottom a good bit and I wasn’t sure if this is normal or something I’m doing
It happens, both from hitting rocks on the river and pulling it around on land. As long as they aren’t too deep you don’t have to worry much. I’ll examine mine once or twice a year and any gouges that have a raised edge that might cause resistance in the water I’ll take a quarter or a metal tool and scrape it to smooth it out. I saw a video here simewhere that showed how to fill deep scratches by melting plastic tarp into them using a red hot paint scraper too and that’s supposed to work pretty well.
NDYakAngler perfect! Thank you so much! I’m sorta new to the game, I’ve only had about a year in the kayak fishing , so I’m no expert yet. Thanks a lot! Love the channel!
I was shocked to see you standing in the Tarpon. Then realized you had your Power Pole down. Question for you: when you put that Power Pole down, is it really stable to stand in the Tarpon? I've been considering getting a stand-up type yak, but I love the Tarpon. So I'm considering getting the Power Pole if it really works for that purpose.
I don’t think I had the Power Pole with here. I do a lot of standing up in the Tarpon without it too. It does make it quite a bit more stable having that Power Pole down though. There’s still the problem of not really having a good spot to stand on the Tarpon. I usually have my feet on the uneven ridge next to the center hatch so if I’m standing all day my feet get pretty sore. I might have to figure something out to flatten that area out a little bit this year, maybe some chunks of my foam ice fishing mats. I wouldn’t mind a more stand up friendly kayak myself but they’re all so wide and heavy and I don’t want to decrease my range paddling upstream.
I was not ready for the speed and accuracy of that frog chop 😂
Offhand frog chop was epic!
Frog: “ah I usually see these humans floating on those big things here all the time. They never bother us so it’s not anything to worry about.”
“hm why is he getting bigger?”
*mentions frogs on an island*

Yep, that frog was just chillin, and then he instantly was split in half
The choice of words for this comment is amazing lol
Shit was oddly impressive
That was actually pretty awesome hahaha
Sees a giant school of catfish, no bait, runs to bank, smacks a frog like a boss with his paddle, ties on a rig and slays em!
It always nice when things work as planned!
A true angler always knows how to improvise
@@BenVaughnTech aint that truth. I had to male a hook out of a soda can i found one time haha

Agreed on both!

Can dangle a bare hook and they will do the same lol
Phillup Banks yea their kinda dumb lol
No we don't have them up here in North Dakota sadly
Hard part is getting close enough
I catch a whole bunch on powerworms.
Thanks from Melbourne in Australia. We can’t fish for at least another month so these videos are keeping me entertained. Can’t wait to hit the lakes and the bay.

Thanks, Matt, always a pleasure to watch your videos!

Jagged Tooth Tackle having the same feeling right now, here in wisconsin! feet of snow!
Well there is this cool thing you can do called “Ice fishing” bring your beer and buds
As always great videos. Can't wait for some spring smallies!! Tight lines
Same here. The stretch of river I fish for spring smallies was 90% open on Thursday, now we just need some warm weather to get them active!
Your videos are top-notch!
These videos are awesome man. This is some great go to videos of some good fishing. I can’t stop watching them.

2022 still watching! Love this channel!
I was caught off guard by the brutality. I was thinking, "How's he gonna catch a fr... OOOH!! Damn." No judgement.
I would say fishing Bob Ross might be a bad descriptor but Bob Ross was in the military so who knows
This is wholesome also it is funny when the cat fish looks like it’s trying to say something
Wholesome rightttttt..... nonchalantly chops a frog in half with his ore
This is a world class river you are fishing in. You seem to be the only person on the water.
Ha Ha! Nice! I do the same thing when crappie fishing in the spring when they're spawning..good times on 8lb braid and 5'6" rod!
If I only knew the river I would be there so fast 😂
It’s a good thing he doesn’t give the location so it doesn’t get polluted and over fished
It's the red river

Yes HUGE BASS, we have some decent ones where i'm from just not as frequent i guess
Only man on earth that doesn’t spit on his knots
Awesome vid nice spot!💯💪👊LET'S GO!!!
Epic vid! Big channels on a paddle smacked frog 😂😂😂👍👍👍
Thanks! Give me a dozen tries and I doubt I could spear a frog with my paddle and perfectly slice it in half like that again lol.
Awesome content as usual 🤘🏽🇨🇱🎣
Beautiful, healthy river!
Beautiful area!
Poor froggie :( Looks like a leopard frog too, my favorite.

Catfish are always fun to catch, especially when you hook into one on bass or walleye gear!
man paddles to an island, finds a frog, chops in halve and ties it to his line faster than me prepping my leader rig.
Nah he catchin a catfish dinner, he gon sound like a winner.
Love your videos man, keep it up :)
Even when you're not trying to catch smallies, you catch smallies smh lol
great video👍
Nice cats!
this dude... we'll just catch a frog... strolls over to the bank and immediately gets one with his ore. Smooth.
fantastic video 😁 thanks
Catfish are delicious, favorite fish of all time.

I need a T-Shirt with you and oar spear fighting a frog boss!
Haha I like that idea!
What fishingline are you using?
I swear everywhere you fish is stocked 😂
RIP mr frog, he was of good service
Oh man. Can't wait to hit the water again. Unfortunately the water's beneath a few feet of ice right now.......but soon......
I appreciate you being mostly into catch and release, but a small meal of catfish filets couldn't hurt!
Nice catfish, Matt!👍👍👍
Do they bite on topwater lures in the summer?
We catch the wels cats on the surface in the warm period over here.
Thanks! The channel cats will hit topwater occasionally around sunrise and sunset. I’ve caught a few of them on the spook.
Cool my friend the sllu for videos always succeed ya
Nice cats!!!!
