crazy story... 10 years ago when i worked for a construction company, i had a company cargo van that was filled with tools. I stopped by Home Depot to get material, was gone 10 minutes, when i came back my van was robbed of my tools and few cars down there was a police officer that caught the guy that stole it. We go to the station make a report, and cop goes, there is 2 things you can do, press charges and we keep all your tools as evidence until court, or not press any charges and you get all your tools back right now. So they pretty much let that guy go because i needed my tools and wasnt going to wait months-years until i get it back... it was expensive tools too, professional laser level, finish guns, meter saws, table saws, impact drivers, ect.

i woke up two years ago to someone stealing my propane tank off my trailer, turns out he had taken my power cord and one of the tanks already and came back.... we got into a scuffle and he got me on the ground, strangled me and beat me telling me he was going to kill me, until i was able to get him off me...... and yup, even after all that..... its the violation of my space that gets to me the most.

Watch Craiglist, & Facebook for someone selling your tools/welder/plasma cutter & other stuff. The sad part is that if he had some cameras on all 4 corners of the shop. Well so unless they are smart enough to have a post of the tools in another state id you search on FBmarketplace, it will show you stuff that is 3+hrs away. I think there’s a better chance of you finding him, but not the tools sadly. If there’s anything found I’d rather have him arrested.
I really appreciated you taking the time to post this, the cop did mention your "town" and now I know where you are, Somebody else will be lookin through them windows now. Seriously I have had two nice utility trailers stolen from under my bedroom window while I was sleeping. I didn't know it till I went to work the next day and said, "Where's my trailer." After a few months of being all pissed I bought another one from "Horsch Trailers" (great people) it was nice because when this trailer was stolen I could call them and get all the details for the cops. I had no clue what it was... I think the thieves come back in about a month figure you have replaced your stuff so they can steal new stuff.

thats not a bad idea to be honest. if you watch enough cops epsisodes, one of the ways they caught drug dealers, was to go in known areas, then pretend to be buyers, as soon as the dealer hands over money, then the team rushes in to arrest the drug dealer. simular action to catch prostitutes. but then again, it might be a good idea to ask a professional for their opinions as well, to avoid making the ad suspicous. worst case scenario, if the suspect (or suspects) just happen to be fans, well then reading our comments will do the complete opposite of the desired results

Westen, that really sucks man! Been there, done that, except I was relieved of about $23,000 worth of Mac and Craftsman tools in a double roll-away. Somebody KNEW I wasn't going to be around on a certain weekend, and BAM, I walked back in Monday morning to a jimmied back door and the majority of my livelihood missing. There was other stuff gone too, but the roll-away had probably 80% of my total investment in tools and diagnostic shit. Nothing was ever found, so evidently they managed to get them far away before they were sold or traded off.🙄 Your local LEA guys seem like pretty good people, so maybe they can come up with enough clues to nail those bastards, and hopefully get your stuff back! been a Security tech for 20 years, you need some security my guy, everyone does. Don't feel bad most people aren't pro-active when it comes to security.
Well while you are here, what would you recommend for a good camera system. (Preferably things that don't have subscriptions but either way give me what you think is good) I have done some research but have not made my mind up.
Camera's set up on motion and then that recording alert sent to you.....then it's time to decide, 911, or the boy's with their own policing tools...lol. A good beating behind the wood shed is a far better result than a few nights in a comfortable cell, imho.
Check your local Pawn Shops. Make sure you get an accurate list of what is missing. You will find stuff they took for the next couple years when you reach for a tool you had. We had it happen years ago, found three items in a pawn shop and was able to prosecute who stole the stuff. Never got the remainder of our tools back. Good luck. Sorry to see you lost some stuff.
Man I hope you are able to recover your stuff but as this happens so much and usually never find out who did it... Last Monday my truck was stolen. They drove around through yards,running over mail boxes and when they finally stopped they soaked the seats in gas and set it on fire 🔥. Luckily just the interior was damaged in the fire. The truck was originally my ol man's.

Actually a good idea,,,,my mancave/gun/reloading shed/tool building (12x14) where i now keep my tools and I have a reloading area set up in is devoid of windows because it's easy to keep just one door secure and not being able to see what's inside makes the thought of breaking in somewhat less attractive to potential thieves because they just don't know if it will be worth getting caught,,,,at least in theory anyhow it would stand to reason,,,,,,no one has tried to break into it or my shop or house but if they do they are in for a very LOUD supprize,,,,after getting hit once I now have one hell of a security system and not no normal alarm neither,,,I was hellping tear down the old firehall in the town by where I live and someone asked if anyone wanted the old air raid siren that they used to let the volunteer firemen know to come because of a fire, well I said hell yes,,,,,,,so it is now wired into my home security system and is mounted about 16 feet above the ground on the roof of my shop ,,,,the siren was easily heard a couple miles or more away in all directions because I remember very well when they would set it off years ago because I live about 4 miles out of town and I used to be able to just barely hear it even that far away,,,,,so if some scumbag thief sets that off in the middle of the night he will probly drop dead right where he stands just from the scare of it,,,,that is if he gets past my first line of deffense,,,,,,my 2 dogs,,,one is a male rottweiler bullmastif cross that weighs about 150 pounds and his mother that is a purebread bullmastiff that weighs about 150 pounds also and very aggressive about her home turf where strangers entering is concearned,,,,so I pitty the fool that shows up at my place with bad ideas on their mind.
When I built my new shop 2 years ago, I put no windows, A- because they always are in the way for racking or storage. B- costs money but you always put the lights on anyway. C- security.
Windowless buildings are depressing to be in. If the shop is big enough, no windows aren't a problem that way, but a smaller shop? You'll hate it. Banks have windows and it's the 21st century. You aren't forced to use a bunker for a shop unless it's a budget thing.

I have another spot with windows, as you say, cost me 400 quid a window, saved a few bricks, but I always put the lights on because you never get enough light to see. So new shop, thought, bollocks, no windows for this one!
Yard maintenance season has started here. I'll wager that I'll hear about at least 5-6 guys whose equipment got ripped off sometime through the summer. They have equipment stolen while it's sitting on their trailers and they're mowing yards. Nothing is safe, so you gotta plan accordingly. Man, I'm sorry for the awful loss you had!

They’ll get caught and charged with multiple felonies and if they have any past history they will almost certainly serve time

Usually that's the first place police notify if stuff like that is stolen
Unfortunately with fb market place and things like that pawn shops are usually the last place someone takes something to fence it I know I’ve been robbed twice and that’s the only thing the cops told me both times

Westen, that really sucks man! Been there, done that, except I was relieved of about $23,000 worth of Mac and Craftsman tools in a double roll-away. Somebody KNEW I wasn't going to be around on a certain weekend, and BAM, I walked back in Monday morning to a jimmied back door and the majority of my livelihood missing. There was other stuff gone too, but the roll-away had probably 80% of my total investment in tools and diagnostic shit. Nothing was ever found, so evidently they managed to get them far away before they were sold or traded off.🙄 Your local LEA guys seem like pretty good people, so maybe they can come up with enough clues to nail those bastards, and hopefully get your stuff back! Camera's set up on motion and then that recording alert sent to you.....then it's time to decide, 911, or the boy's with their own policing tools...lol. A good beating behind the wood shed is a far better result than a few nights in a comfortable cell, imho.
Check your local Pawn Shops. Make sure you get an accurate list of what is missing. You will find stuff they took for the next couple years when you reach for a tool you had. We had it happen years ago, found three items in a pawn shop and was able to prosecute who stole the stuff. Never got the remainder of our tools back. Good luck. Sorry to see you lost some stuff.

Last Monday my truck was stolen.
They drove around through yards,running over mail boxes and when they finally stopped they soaked the seats in gas and set it on fire 🔥.
Luckily just the interior was damaged in the fire. The truck was originally my ol man's.
This makes me feel like not having windows at my shop is a good thing
My old garage only had windows on the garage doors and we painted over them like the rest of the garage, we’ll the back room had little tiny block windows, yeah

Garage got broken into 4 years ago two times and everything was gone it was hard to start over but we had too. It is also hard to not be mad I am still mad to this day. My prayers go out to you

And this is how Asimov got.the idea for windowless buildings. Always thought that was weird. I always hated bars on windows but I kinda understand their purpose.
Actually a good idea,,,,my mancave/gun/reloading shed/tool building (12x14) where i now keep my tools and I have a reloading area set up in is devoid of windows because it's easy to keep just one door secure and not being able to see what's inside makes the thought of breaking in somewhat less attractive to potential thieves because they just don't know if it will be worth getting caught,,,,at least in theory anyhow it would stand to reason,,,,,,no one has tried to break into it or my shop or house but if they do they are in for a very LOUD supprize,,,,after getting hit once I now have one hell of a security system and not no normal alarm neither,,,I was hellping tear down the old firehall in the town by where I live and someone asked if anyone wanted the old air raid siren that they used to let the volunteer firemen know to come because of a fire, well I said hell yes,,,,,,,so it is now wired into my home security system and is mounted about 16 feet above the ground on the roof of my shop ,,,,the siren was easily heard a couple miles or more away in all directions because I remember very well when they would set it off years ago because I live about 4 miles out of town and I used to be able to just barely hear it even that far away,,,,,so if some scumbag thief sets that off in the middle of the night he will probly drop dead right where he stands just from the scare of it,,,,that is if he gets past my first line of deffense,,,,,,my 2 dogs,,,one is a male rottweiler bullmastif cross that weighs about 150 pounds and his mother that is a purebread bullmastiff that weighs about 150 pounds also and very aggressive about her home turf where strangers entering is concearned,,,,so I pitty the fool that shows up at my place with bad ideas on their mind.
When I built my new shop 2 years ago, I put no windows, A- because they always are in the way for racking or storage. B- costs money but you always put the lights on anyway. C- security.
Windowless buildings are depressing to be in. If the shop is big enough, no windows aren't a problem that way, but a smaller shop? You'll hate it. Banks have windows and it's the 21st century. You aren't forced to use a bunker for a shop unless it's a budget thing.

I have another spot with windows, as you say, cost me 400 quid a window, saved a few bricks, but I always put the lights on because you never get enough light to see. So new shop, thought, bollocks, no windows for this one!
Yard maintenance season has started here. I'll wager that I'll hear about at least 5-6 guys whose equipment got ripped off sometime through the summer. They have equipment stolen while it's sitting on their trailers and they're mowing yards. Nothing is safe, so you gotta plan accordingly.
