My favorite Winnie the Pooh character is Christopher Robin. My mom nicknamed my siblings and I after the characters based on personality and mine was Christopher Robin because of my creativity. My mom used to love reading the Winnie the Pooh stories to my brother, my sister, and I. My brother was nicknamed Tigger because of is hyperness and my sister was nicknamed Piglet for her shyness. My mom we jokingly called Eeyore because of her severe depression. The reason I'm using past-tense is because my mom died last fall from heart failure, she had drank and smoked herself to death. I still sleep with the Winnie the Pooh stuffed bear she bought me shortly before she died even though I'm 16.

eeyore was always my favorite because he was sad and i was a sad kid. I just wanted to hug him and tell him it was okay to be depressed. once i got older and was diagnosed my love for eeyore made a lot more sense.
Danielle Lowry The thing I love most is that Eeyore's friends never just tell him to cheer up or stop being so grumpy, they never expect him to pretend to be all happy for them, they accept that he isn't often able to really be "present" or "excited", but invite him for games and activties and adventures regardless, not to cheer him up, but just so he knows he's still loved and isn't alone.

The story of Winnie the Pooh is a long one, but to make it short, he's called Winnie the Pooh because the real life Christopher Robin was having struggles naming his teddy bear. He went to a zoo one day and saw a bear named Winnie there (and was let into the enclosure to play with it) and decided to name his teddy bear Winnie, and, for unknown reasons, put the Pooh at the end

Okay, one thing though - about 15 years ago there were shorts about the history of Canada, and one of them was based on this. It sounded like the soldier commissioned an artist to draw Winnie so Christopher Robin wouldn't miss him, and he also got someone to write up stories about Winnie, but it was actually by Chris's request he just be called "Winnie the Pooh".
But now I am not sure which is the true story. XD

Eric Stearns Yeah I'm right there with you. When I look back and think who was my favorite character, I don't think I ever really decided. Some days it was Piglet, than next it was Eyore or Tigger or Winnie or Christopher Robin or that little kangaroo guy (I think his name was Joey, not sure though). And I don't even remember the owl.... I was pretty small when most of the modern Winnie the Pooh movies came out. Now that I think about it 'Who was your favorite Winnie the Pooh character?' is a pretty impossible question. Now I'm gonna go see if Netflix has any Winnie the Pooh movies.

It's called "Goodbye Christopher Robin". The whole story around Pooh, his author and his son is explained in it :)
Basically, the author's sons name is Christopher Robin (they called him Billy Moon tho) and he begged his father to write a book for him because Milne was an author - he wrote theatre plays and children books. Christopher loved his plush toys so much that he made up stories with his father about them and they went straight into the book. They moved from London to a small cottage because of Millers PTSD so there is where the woods are coming from. Winnie was a name from a brown bear in a Zoo (it was a short form for Winnipeg, a city in Canada) and Pooh comes from Milne. When he was ut in the woods with him he told he son: "See this swan? You can call him Pooh so if he doesn't react you can pretend just saying 'pooh...'"
This is the story why Christopher Robin named his teddy bear "Winnie Pooh"

My favorite character might have to be Eeyore. I was always fond of him, gloominess and all, and I really liked it when he would unexpectedly get involved, such as in the search for Owl's new house and writing a poem.
I find that I really love the story behind the swan's name. In the book, there's an intro where A.A. Milne talks about how they called the swan Pooh because if it didn't respond to your call (which it often didn't, being a wild swan), you could pretend you weren't calling the swan and were actually just saying "Pooh!" to it! XD

Correction: "When We Were Very Young" was written and published BEFORE "Winnie the Pooh," not afterwards. Big Pooh fan here. I loved the TV series that ran through the 80's and 90's, and was sad when the later Pooh movies ignored it (Pooh and the gang knew some friendly Heffalumps well before "Pooh's Heffalump Movie." But does Disney want this generation to know that? Nope.) The books are better. My favorite character? Tigger!

I read two of the books and watched some of the old vhses as a kid.
It was a book of poetry. Nice poems, some of which I have memorized to this very day. One of the poems in the book features Winnie the Pooh back when he was still called Edward Bear. A. A. Milne also wrote another poetry book called "Now We Are Six," which also has some poems about Winnie the Pooh.

Even if the MoM were against giving a half-giant a wand again, I feel like Olivander would have been nice enough to let Hagrid see if another wand would choose him. Thoughts? c:

I thought the umbrella had his wand pieces in it? It still worked, it was just kinda wonky. He had gone much of his life without a fully working wand, maybe he just got used to doing magic without it.
We know that 1) The Elder Wand can cast reparo other wands perfectly, as seen when Harry fixes his own. 2) Dumbledore had the Elder Wand for a long time. 3) Dumbledore couldn't care less what the Ministry orders about anything. I think Dumbledore had already repaired the wand in Hagrid's umbrella when he was working as gamekeeper.
I remember I used to have a Little Golden Book about this exact story.
I actually already knew about why Winnie was called Winnie, thanks to seeing a heritage minute about it; as a kid (to those that don't know, Heritage Minutes are a series of commercials that aired from the 90's to today in Canada that shows a part of Canadian History.) and to those that know what I'm talking about; anyone remember those commercials?
