We've NEVER Planted Soybeans This Late!

- Our farm is currently experiencing the wettest spring and summer in over 132 years! As a result, we're replanting parts of our fields that have drowned out for the THIRD TIME this season. With July in full swing, the soybeans we're planting now will likely serve more as a cover crop than a harvestable one.
In today's video, discover why we chose to replant instead of leaving the soil barren and learn about the impacts of the flooding on our farm's future.

Matthias, aka HiTech Farmer, is a 5th generation family farmer from Southwest Minnesota who promotes agriculture by capturing it through the lens of a camera, one video at a time. Passionate about emerging farm technologies and the benefits of 21st-century precision agriculture tools, such as farm equipment, GPS, and autonomous tractors, Matthias is determined to bring new methods into his operation. These methods can improve his farm's efficiency and sustainability into the future. Learning from his parents' (Mike and Dawn) work ethic, Matthias sees every day as an opportunity to educate and entertain about the daily triumphs and challenges his farm faces, whether technology-related or not. His mission is to share his enthusiasm and knowledge of agriculture as he embarks on what it means to be a farmer in the modern era.
I hope you have the warm sunny days you're expecting so that the seeds germinate and the cover crop takes hold!
Thanks! Only time will tell
Thanks for everything you do as a farmer.
Hopefully it will grow and produce a yield. Greetings from Ireland
We can hope right? Be interesting to see come this fall
At least your not just leaving it as blank dirt at least the something under the soil
My thought exactly!
Hey..., you don't need no stinking auger, excuse my language, to load them there beans!
Your right, but its safer to do so. Lol
in your next video can't you show how to operate your all your JD tractors like drive them?? If you do not want to I am ok with that
It won't be the next video, but I will add this to my list to create in the near term. I appreciate the feedback
@@HiTech_Farmer no problem
What’s your normal frost date in the fall ?🤔😳
Anytime between October 1 and October 10
I really like the new camara angles that you are playing around with. Some multiple views and split views could be interesting.
Thanks! Yes trying out some new things, so I appreciate the feedback
Hello Matthias 👋 I've got a question. When you reference replanting X number of "units," how much is a "unit" of seed?
Thanks 😊
Linda, a unit of soybean seeds is 140,000 individual soybeans. So in this video, I planted roughly 16 million soybeans!
Not a farmer so forgive my ignorance. How does it pencil economically to plant multiple times particularly with prices declining? Thanks
Appreciate the question. Short answer, it doesn't. Planting the soybeans this late in the year will not have a positive ROI, but building the soil health and minimizing weeds for years to come by doing so, will hopefully have a positive ROI.
@@HiTech_Farmer thanks. Best of luck
Man..., that's pretty dirt!
Good heavy black soil, although less then ideal in the wettest of the last 132 years like this year
@@HiTech_Farmer As they say, "I feel your pain". Hope things work out, and it is really going to be interesting to see if you will be able to harvest a crop from these late planted soybeans.
Great video thanks for sharing. I also have these tractors.🌽💖❤💥💚💙🤎🤍💯💢
Thanks! Love the 8R series!
