That fact you mentioned about getting 7p/kWh with Octopus for many hours during the day makes all the difference, that and the fact that any other electricity you use for your appliances, water heating etc during those hours is also charged at the same 7p/kWh. Taking this in account, no other energy provider comes even close. Basically driving my Tesla Model 3 has a negative cost. Often the car is fully charged when I could do with cheaper electricity during the day, if only I had driven some more I'd have saved more. Crazy world, the most crazy is how the public is not being educated about this, they keep talking about the high cost of living partly due to the high cost of energy. What high cost of energy? 7p/kWh? I think I must live in a different world. Anyone has access to it, no one talks about it, except this video that is.
My last bill shows 480 kWh at the low rate and only 160 kWh at the high rate. I’m not using the car much as I’m not commuting right now (still off work since I got sick in Feb) and that’s keeping the overnight charging lower than normal. Equally I have a 1.7kw solar array that’s reducing the day use. I find it quite easy to hit the delay start on the laundry and dishwasher and bump that use into the overnight. Also I can charge less frequently and do larger charges, that triggers extra low rate hours.
Great video and explains much better than the Octopus website. I’m currently on economy 7 with the old teleswitch meter which might be discontinued in June 2025 so need to get a smart meter and new tariff. Like the idea of Intelligent Octopus as 6hr off peak will work for me. I just wonder if it can be set to definitely deliver the off peak rate during those hours as we set the dishwasher and washing machine for off peak, don’t want the off peak to be delayed and end up paying full rate for those items being used. It might not seem much in the overall cost but the sceptic in me thinks that Octopus will wangle the rates to suit them and not me. after all , they’re a company out to make as much profit as possible.
Intelligent Octopus will definitely give you 6 hours of cheap use every night, 2330 - 0530, whether you have a car plugged in or not. But you might be better off with EON drive V4. Where I live their rates are lower by day and by night, and you get 7 hours off peak.

Why does every one call it Octopus Intelligent Go its Intelligent Octopus Go 😅
Fair comment. Probably because it evolved from
octopus Go then changed with the adding of Go into the intelligent name. I rarely get it right!
