Hi, Allison. I teach philosophy and love The Smiths. As far as I'm concerned, your videos are a master class in how to play and teach how to play songs. Starting with a shortish demonstration of your playing of the song reassures the viewer that you're playing what we want to learn and then fret and string numbers are identified for each note. Other TH-cam teachers occasionally skip explaining some crucial step creating great frustration and you never do. I've written out TABs of all your Smiths videos. I'm not sure how they might be of use to you or others.
Good job. I've seen Marr up close play it and you've picked up on a lot of his nuances. I hadn't thought that much about his "up" technique to alter the shading of chords but now will have to to introduce more of it into my playing. I also like your variations combo for the instrumental. Works really well.
@Allison Bennett always give your video a look when i want to play this. know most by ear but the little extra things i forget remind me. keep on rockin!
Hi Allison, great mastery of this tune! I was looking for this song only played by Johnny M. and ended up watching your guitar lesson. Truly well explained, plus your guitar sounds are wonderful. Kudos for this vid!
Hi Alisson. I just finished learning this song. It's the first so g I learned front to back with a solo and picking parts. I just did a dance while singing "I'm so awesome" in my living room and its all down to your lesson. Thank you so much. I love the smiths and now I can play an awesome smiths tune. Great lessons. So easy to follow. Thank you again.
So many guitar tutorials out there for old school metal and classic rock. I am really enjoying the fact that you are giving credence to Johnny Marr and what an amazing guitar player he is.
I used to really be into The Smiths when they were in their pomp in the 80s. I went to see a Smiths tribute act last night in Chesterfield, Derbyshire UK. They were excellent. This is one song that stood out for me as something I am going to have to learn on guitar. Thanks for sharing this lesson. Subscribed.
I've decided that I was going to add this song to my solo/duo acoustic set, and was just going to play Fmaj7 & Am7 for the breaks , but after watching this tutorial many times I am going to try to play the picking you've suggested. Lovely lesson. Thanks
Thank you for doing lessons on this song and so many other songs by The Smiths. I recently learned That Joke Isn’t Funny Anymore, but this is my favorite Smiths song!
9:46 I believe that is close, but not quite. I would recommend simply keeping the shape of the chord before and sticking your pinky down on the B string G note on that final beat.
I received my week 39 with a broken head stock that I had to get repaired but I love it all the more. I really like the chambered body for tone & resonance. Please teach more & thanks!
I like the picture of Johnny Marr on the wall, it's like a family member pic. Are the others pics of family members or are they other musical influences?
Good for you Allison, hang in there, keep playing.Follow your dreams & your heart...you'll never go wrong...my mom told me something like that when I was a kid
the intro riff is not a C chord slide from C to D. the arpeggio chord before the solo has a lot of holes.not picking more strings of the chord to sound full. solo portion is 90% there only part ur missing is a slide.
Marr plays the very first chord slightly differently; it makes a difference, as a nuance, because it is very colorful. Work a little on it, you're on the right track.

And I like how you say "this is how I play.." rather than "this is how TO play"
I've decided that I was going to add this song to my solo/duo acoustic set, and was just going to play Fmaj7 & Am7 for the breaks , but after watching this tutorial many times I am going to try to play the picking you've suggested. Lovely lesson. Thanks

I received my week 39 with a broken head stock that I had to get repaired but I love it all the more. I really like the chambered body for tone & resonance. Please teach more & thanks!

Just starting guitar after years. So frustrated with the length of time it's going to take me to get there!!!!!!!!
Hey Allison, where could I find videos of you playing Smiths' songs with your band?
The world needs more women guitar players
bunny fish Yes it does!
Good for you Allison, hang in there, keep playing.Follow your dreams & your heart...you'll never go wrong...my mom told me something like that when I was a kid
My mama told me, 'Son, you keep pickin' that thang, it'll NEVER heal...'
***** that's a oldie,but goodie
Allison Bennett keep on rocking Allison with 2 "L"'s
sounds good ! what kind of les paul is that?
the intro riff is not a C chord slide from C to D. the arpeggio chord before the solo has a lot of holes.not picking more strings of the chord to sound full. solo portion is 90% there only part ur missing is a slide.
Are you still playing out and gigging?
Watch Johnny Marr Lollapalooza Brasil 2014 video to see how it is really played.
wish i could figure it out on mandolin
Marr plays the very first chord slightly differently; it makes a difference, as a nuance, because it is very colorful. Work a little on it, you're on the right track.
Come back, we miss you. That is one odd Les Paul model?
guitar out of tune...sorry
