@@kevincinnamontoast3669 The shame is that immense energy, time, money, and passion went into creating peak driving machines only to have them sitting in a garage like giant paper weights. :( Doug sounds like he's going for a good middle ground.
There's something so pure about an enthusiast driving the car they are enthusiastic about instead of parking it in a jet hangar somewhere with all of your other priceless cars just because you have money. I'm glad you are driving your dream car, Doug! I hope to be right there with you one day with my dream car. Ima drive that thing until I have to restore it!
I kind of agree with what he said though, get a boxster and put 15,000 miles a year on it and park up front at the store. Cars like this carrera GT are basically for collectors, not enthusiasts. Now the Ford GT, it just has Ford parts, drive the crap out of it.
@@jeffk464 I can see that. From the time I was a kid I loved the Skyline R-34. One time I figured out how much it would cost to bring one over to the US, taxes, maintenance, etc. It was staggering. I'd rather have a Z that I can drive like a madman and not worry about repair costs, etc.
@@GasStationSushiiii Not so much now I've finally grown up but I used to get jealous of people "making it" but never doug. I genuinely am so proud of Doug. Been a subscriber since about 2019 and I never thought I'd see the day that my man got his CGT. I'm still in disbelief
I’m glad Doug is actually enjoying his Carrera GT. I can’t imagine getting your dream car and it doesn’t live up to the hype. I chased a Lexus IS F for 12 years and when I finally got it, it was everything I could ask for. I never get tired of hearing that 2UR-GSE wake up and sing it’s song. Like Doug, I drive my car and really get to enjoy it. I hope everyone that reads this obtain their dream car and I hope it’s everything you want it to be.
I will say I grew up in the early 90s and my dream car of course was always the Lamborghini countach, well I don't own one but about 10 years ago I had an opportunity to drive one and let me just say it was an awful car. I felt like I needed a couple of guys with me so we could push the clutch down and then another guy to help me shift. It's a beautiful car to look at and it certainly was interesting to drive but sometimes it's best not to meet your heroes
@@matt2m That’s awesome bro. 😎 I bet that boxer sounds incredible. 💪🏾 I’m 34 and I only have a X Force exhaust and HPS intake elbow. Sounds amazing and it’s enough for now but she has plenty more mods coming.
@@Audiorevue I heard that about the Countach and Tyler Hoovie of Hoovies Garage has demonstrated it and said the same on his channel. He can’t really fit in it and drive it comfortably but he loves it and won’t let it go. I guess that an exception to the rule and in that case you’re right. At least you got to drive it tho, that’s more than most can say. 😎
Cool to hear your comments on the CD player. I was lucky enough to spend some time in a CGT back in 2007, and the owner loved to talk about (and demonstrate) how surprisingly good the stereo was. There’s at least 2 of you out there taking advantage of it.
I just sold a car that was >$100K new (I bought it used), and one reason I sold it was the cost of parts and repairs - just one headlight was $4,000. I learned that regardless what you pay for a car, service and part expense will forever be as if you bought it new. I realized I'm just not rich enough to be unconcerned about such expenses, and am glad to done with the anxiety.
As always, such a pleasure to watch content by Doug, but his pure joy and his infectious enthusiasm just take it to another level. I am so glad the car delivered and did not break, as they say never meet (or drive in this case) your heroes… keep driving it and enjoying it, money is the only thing you are guaranteed to have again!
I actually feel the opposite about the Carrera GT wing. I accept it doesn't do much at speed in it's down position, but I love how the wing is sculpted into the body/tail lights when it's down. When it's up it looks sort of tacked on/boy racer.
I think you are both kinda right. The sculpted look of the wing look amazing but I also think it would look better with a wing/spoiler sticking up. It definitely does look tacked on when it's up vs the sculpted look with it down.
This exactly, I love a good ol big wing but i love them even more when they will blend into the bodywork like the Carrera GT/ 918 spyder/ Bugatti veyron etc
Only in US will people not recognize a Carrera GT. There is literally nothing as timeless and elegant as this cars styling. Even after 2 decades it looks so good and fresh whilst enzo and other competitors felt aged already in 2015. Maybe it’s the colour which makes people not recognize but still that sound is enough for any petrol head to turn and stop whatever they r doing and freeze. Literally nothing comes close to this gem of a car. Carrera GT in red, yellow or black is needed maybe for normal people to appreciate this legend.
Here in Germany, I actually learned driving manual this way. It does make a lot of sense, and it allows you to "feel" how the clutch works, then after a few times you just press the gas pedal earlier and earlier until you've found "the spot". Maybe that's how the engineers learned to drive as well, and that's why the clutch is the way it is.
I taught my nephew in a church parking lot This way. Clutch in , clutch out, clutch in, brake. Over and over Without shifting. I still joke with him ‘the clutch never lies’ to this day…
that’s mostly because learner cars are diesel engines, they have much more power in the lower rpms, so you don’t need a higher rpm to get going. i’m german myself and i know many people that had a problem after switching from a 150ps diesel learners car to a 90ps gasoline shitbox :D
This is crazy, i remember the day the video of his carrera gt first came out and already 6 months passed, this is insane how time flies. But it`s always a pleasure to watch these videos, seeing Doug enjoying the cars makes me smile.
I’ve been watching you since about 2014. Seeing the evolution of the start of car reviews to the Doug score, to cars and bids and ownership of this car is crazy to me. Congrats on all your success Doug, you’re like the sole reason I got into really loving the porsche brand. I sold my 2nd one a few years ago for multiple reasons and hope to get like a 2020 cayenne within the next year or so once the market softens a little more. They’re truly amazing cars.
Got to drive my uncle's a few years ago. I've driven sticks for nearly fifty years, and this was the most difficult clutch I've ever come across. Once it was rolling though...HOLY SHIT! Most amazing vehicle I've ever been in.
Quick note. My parents bought one in 2016, and we still own it. I’ve probably put 1,500 miles on it since then, and the very first time I turned the radio on, I was sitting in the garage getting ready to head out for a drive, I turned the radio on, and the Paul Walker, missing you song came on…from the beginning. I almost turned the car off and got out. I chose to drive, but I have never once disrespected the cars ability to be dangerous. We’ve got over a dozen cars from 1960 speedsters to modern super cars, but nothing is better than the CGT, you just have to know what you’re doing.
@@joshuamurray6580 they built the search engine you use to find doctors through your healthcare provider…the search function that will show you doctors in network, how much it will cost, a rating system and so on. I had the same reaction when I got my dream car I had been lusting after my whole life (Hummer H1). It never disappointed me - even when it was broken. I hope you never have to suffer the heartache of losing it in an accident like what happened to mine. I highly, HIGHLY suggest you put a dashcamera in it. I've seen one Carrera GT in my life in upstate NY, let me tell you Doug... I WILL notice one every single time it's parked or driving, the one I saw was red and my God what a beautiful car. Enjoy that car Doug drive it like you've been, you deserve it! :)
My first introduction to the Carrera GT was in a video game. It was called Need for Speed: Most Wanted. That whole game has been one of the reasons why i love cars. But i remember finally driving the Carrera and just being amazed. Like, the thing is just a jet plane on wheels. The sound, even in the game, was so cool. Seriously, what a legend of a car.
Man it's already been 6 MONTHS?! I remember you barely managing to keep it together with excitement and happiness about your Carrera GT like it was yesterday. Time flies, man. Can't believe it's been 6 months with your Carrera. So thrilled and happy to see you enjoy the car, too.
Congrats Doug, you’ve worked hard and it was great hearing your story when you announced the purchase in Feb. hope those mods make it even more enjoyable to own!
Before texting and driving was CD'ing and driving. You had to reach under the passenger seat and pull out the CD case, then lay it on your lap, while driving. Then you had to unzip the case and open it up, while driving. Then you had to leaf through the CD pages one by one and decipher the various artwork as a particular album you wanted to select or not. Best practice, not more than one page at a time before looking up at the road again. It was common to scan through the entire library and somehow overlook the one you wanted. So you would have to start over again. But not give into temptation to study more intently than before at the CD's to overcome the first outcome. Finally, you found the one you wanted (there were only two or three that you ever played out of the 32 you kept in the car). Then you would have to insert that one in your mouth. Next you would press the eject button on the CD player to eject the current CD and hope it wouldn't motor out and then, inexplicably, suck back in again. When it finally stayed stuck out, you would gingerly grab it, either by sticking one finger in the center hole or carefully clawing it with two fingers on opposing sides. Next you would grab the steering wheel with one knee. And then, after a double-take on the road situation, quickly sleeve the old CD in the CD case and then (another quick dart of the eyes on the road now) remove the disk in your mouth and insert it into the CD player slot, with just the precise amount of force and travel. Just enough so that the magical CD gnome inside noticed you're intent to play said disk, but not too forceful that you would annoy him and be ignored. Another glance at the road if all went well and you would close and re-stow the case. The last very important step was to slide all the way back in the seat until your arms were straight, relax and get ready to listen to the next tune. Hopefully you didn't rear-end someone up to this point.
I remember the first time I heard about the notoriously difficult clutch operation of the Carrera GT thinking it's just like every tractor and heavy truck I operated on the farm as a teenager and it is! The clutch assembly is a fantastic piece of engineering, compact lightweight and strong. What Porsche engineers didn't consider was driver ability.
Why is it the responsibility of the engineers to look out for the ineptness of driver skill and decision making? Every car like this, including the ridiculous hellcat and it’s spawn are WAY too much car for the average mouth breather that buys one. Witness every mustang crash video and it’s ilk. People need to take responsibility for their own stupidity, something sorely lacking these days.
@@MH-ev3wr There's a certain point where it does become the responsibility of the designer though. Why should I have to learn how to operate something I already know how to operate? Selling something that is expected generally to work one way and then it doesn't means it's a design issue, any engineer that tells you otherwise is a bad engineer lol. I don't really have an opinion on the CGT clutch, but it definitely sounds like it was poorly designed and end-users can't be blamed for that.
@@niall21 you'd be right however it functions uniquely for a reason. sure you can criticize the inconsistency but you can't just call it "bad design" without taking into account the reason for the change. the criticisms you'll find don't come from owners who actually get to spend a bit of time w the clutch. it works exactly as intended and, on the contrary, actually solves the issue of common clutch inconsistencies that doug described.
@@niall21 uhh, the engine and clutch were designed for an F1 car. The engine doesn’t have a flywheel. Please read about it before commenting about it. If the suits decided the engine and clutch were going to be used in a road car that’s not their problem. The engineers designed it for the parameters they were given. As a mechanical engineer myself, that’s how engineering works.

Hey I have a low mileage accord. 2013 at almost 60k miles. Do I drive the hell out of it or enjoy it rarely? I have 3 cars and the 13 accord is my nicest.
Doug is the type of guy who would tell us that you're not supposed to park a Carrera GT with its wing up and six seconds later show us four photos of his Carrera GT parked with its wing up.
Doug - I am so beyond happy for you that you are actually driving the car! Life is too damn short and you’ve worked waaay too hard to not enjoy the hell out of it. Good for you!
I actually learned to drive a manual clutch just like this. Because the cars on the school were tuned to idle on higher revs, the engine didn't stall when going off the clutch, it was to make it easier for new drivers. I actually had to learn to find the biting point after getting the license.
Sounds like those upgrades to the suspension and the wing are definitely the way to go. After I buy my Carrera GT, I'll be sure to do that. 😂 Seriously, though -- congrats on actually *driving* yours. You're like Jay Leno in that respect -- driving your cars, not just letting them sit. I like that a lot.
Doug, glad to hear your driving the car and not parking it. Drive it and enjoy it. A car sitting in a garage and not using it is callled a couch. It was build to be driven. Look foward to seeing more videos of your enjoyment.
Me too. I paid for the driving experience, I'm going to get my money's worth. The car's engineers designed it to be driven so I should honor them. I'll daily drive that thing.
Kudos Doug! I am a long time fan of yours and I can say you truly deserve what you got l more than everyone. You kept my passion alive even in times where it was dimming down due to externalities. You are a true inspiration for myself! I am a true car enthusiast, probably too young to be considered a purist but my racing background helps me to be credible 😂. My ultimate dream is to own a carrera gt, I will push as hard as I can to achieve it. Every video you make motivates me even further. For the moment I have just collected my first GT car, the 718gt4, spec in a way to keep in mind my goal (gt silver, silver wheels and buckets). Until the moment I will buy a Carrera GT (and beyond)! I will closely follow you and share your happiness. BEST G
If it has a 12v outlet, you can just get a bluetooth radio transmitter. They plug into the 12v and give you a radio station that you can tune the car to, and you pair it with your phone so you can play what you want through the car's radio.
I mean, the way you describe the driving experience, it’s kind of sad that 99% of these sit in collections never getting driven. It’s about passion, after all! And respect to you for buying one, and deciding to properly enjoy it
The seals thing is always an interesting argument. Anecdotally, I had a 99 Toyota Aristo with 60,000km that had seal issues everywhere. Also had a 2000 GS400 that didn't leak a drop of oil with 300,000km. Might be like some car owners let them sit, where others will start them and not drive them.
Talking about the clutch, I drive a diesel manual car, and the operation of the clutch is pretty similar, as I'm habitual to let the clutch all the way out and then press the throttle. Yes, I just compared a CGT to a diesel car, I'm weird 🙂
I try to drive my car in a similar manner, just to minimize clutch wear. Unless I'm on a hill, or need to take off fast I just ease off the clutch at idle and then apply throttle... No need to slip the clutch at higher rpm if I don't need the extra power. I supercharged this car 100k miles ago and everyone on the forums always says "the clutch is the first thing to go once you go forced induction" and the clutch still feels like it did when new and can still give wheel spin if I get aggressive going into 3rd, (although I don't drive like that). I had a tundra with 300k miles on the stock clutch also (my dad put the first 220k on it).
i learned driving a 2.0 TDi Passat. My instructor told me, this is the only way. My first car was 2.0 petrol E46 with an old clutch. It was a nightmare. Took me about 6 month to realise i can't really drive my car that way and adding some gas around the bite point is crucial , not forbidden :D
The clutch is a 6.5” carbon ceramic clutch. It was very easy for people to stall so they programmed it to allow the car to take off using only the clutch from a stop as you explained. That’s not how it’s intended to be driven, that’s a safety net. Clutch out slow, but not too slow, the car moves. You can still absolutely drive it like a normal manual with no qualms, if you figure out the “bite point” as you put it. The floor mounted pedals don’t make it a lot easier, it reminded me of driving a 993, even though it’s not exactly the same.
Doug, I LOVE your enthusiasm and excitement. Thank you for just being you. I recently bought my first Porsche (2014 Panamera 4 with 26K miles) and I love it! So I appreciate your enthusiasm. While I would never compare a Carrera GT to a Panamera, I would compare our shared excitement. Keep it coming!!!
I love the fact you're enjoying the CGT. It's a dream car for a lot of people, including myself. I'm happy to see you're upgrading the suspension, but have you considered taking it back to Porsche first for the suspension recall that Jay Lenno, Damon DDE & many others (inc myself) have seen/suffered from, This is the likely cause for the deaths of Rodger & Paul. If not, check the rear top hats for signs of failure when you replace them! The clutch topic is also interesting as there is many places that can provide much better versions these days, however the operation is the same, the performance & longevity is improved. The bitch job is the replacement procedure. (I've only done two)
Interesting that you find the car better looking with the spoiler up, I always thought it spoiled (lol) the slick look of the car. To each their own. Livin the dream =)
Hi from NZ! Doug I still can’t believe you have a CGT!! Amazing work man. My absolute dream car, I really hope I have one, one day. My current lineup consists of: 06’ Brabus ForFour, 03’ VW Passat W8 6MT, 94’ E34 540iA
I live in the same area as Doug and for me, traffic has slowly eroded the joy of owning any sports car. Also, traffic lights seem much more intrusive than years ago - just yesterday I drove to a big box store, and between our house and there are eight traffic lights. For "fun", I noted that on the way there, 7/8 were red, and on the way home, 6/8 were red. Back when I had my one-off Midlana car, which had a ton of performance, it was endlessly frustrating to always be stuck idling along with all the other "losers." We recently took a drive down the coast highway, and average speed was about 20 mph - stuck behind everyone else. If I see Doug stuck in traffic alongside me, I'll say hi!
The town I grew up in went from having just a few traffic lights, to having traffic lights every 8th to 1/4 mile on the main road, and lights everywhere when going through town. It's amazing how much it changed. I left for a rural area and there are barely any lights... Speed limit is 75 too, and roads are curvy, hilly, and fun.... Although kinda beat up from trucks.
Traffic lights are a huge bummer when they're poorly timed/programmed for the conditions. For the first time in 3 years, I drove home from work yesterday and didn't hit a single red light, which is ridiculously rare as I have about 12 traffic lights on my normal route. More often than not, red lights usually outnumber the green lights by a huge margin, even if I'm moving with the main flow of traffic.
What's especially frustrating is when someone turns right at a light, the dumb controller sets the lights red to through traffic, even though the car is already gone. Everyone comes to a stop and just sit there... it would be so easy to fix the programming, but nope! Grrrrr.
I absolutely love this video! It's great to see you enjoying this dream car you have lusted after for so long. I'm in a similar situation myself as I bought my first Ferrari a 2012 458 Italia back in December of 2022 and currently in the process of making a 6 month ownership video of my experience with it. I can definitely confirm the cost analysis with driving supercars and hypercars and putting miles on them. I think one reason the CGT goes unnoticed, is to the untrained eye it probably looks like a modified Boxster, and then add in the color aspect and most people don't take a second look. Congratulations on achieving your dream and I wish you many years of ownership enjoyment!
You can drive any manual that way, you just have to let the clutch out really really slowly. That’s how I learned in a 120 HP Civic: I never touched the gas pedal once in the first 20 minutes of driving it, it was all about getting enough finesse in my left foot to get the car rolling using only the clutch.
That's exactly how I've taught people to drive a manual trans. Find a really flat and open parking lot, show them where 1st and neutral are and let them slowly release the clutch to find the friction point and repeat that process over and over.
@@mindrestofficialchannel9235it is. I can do it in my mom's 69hp econobox. Is it fairly difficult compared to say a big diesel? Yes ofc, but it is possible, you just have to go slow enough so that the engine doesn't drop the revs
Uphills finna ruin your day. My Nissan Np200 (Renault logan with a pickup bedl) takes off way too slowly. People will just honk at me for being too slow
I don't think Porsche would have designed a CD head unit just for the CGT. If they did borrow the head unit from the 996/986 cars then the Porsche CDR radio from Becker has a plug and the back for an aftermarket adaptor (also from Becker) that runs a 3.5 mm aux plug to the cabin. you can plug that end into bluetooth receiver marketed for wired headphones like the Quedelix or FiiO. Pair that to the phone. Crystal clear audio. you just have charge the Quedelix or FiiO to take with you in the CGT and do the whole pairing thing. But you'lll be able to take calls too. The app for the Quedelix is pretty cool you can fine tunde the in the EQ screen.
I remember when this car came out. It is an amazing car. It sounds fantastic. It looks incredible. One detail I noticed immediately and thoroughly enjoyed was the side mirrors. I really liked the shape and the pedestals.
Imagine building a supercar lidar add-on, that you mount in the grill of your supercar, and it will based on your car, map out if you can go over a place without scratching the spoilers. It will give you a warning if the curb is too high and such, or even some kind of signal if you're "too close to comfort", but making it so in general you don't have to go out and measure the street with a ruler everytime you come to a new place =) That invension you can sell for thousands =)
the clutch works like a big commercial truck with my cement truck thats how the clutch works its super easy to get use to and i agree i wish all standard cars had clutches like this
I bought a first generation "doorstop" 1989 Super Red MR2 and it gets daily attention that I would never get in my more expensive performance car. People driving minivans wave at me and the younger crowd love it.
I would hope that most manual drivers use the handbrake to hold the car on the incline and then release it at the moment they start letting the clutch out. No rolling backwards, no revving the piss out of the car. Easy peasy.
@@MH-ev3wr I can do a hill start on a manual without using the handbrake, without rolling backwards, without excessive revving, no problem. It seems quite possible to me that the Carrera GT clutch system would also be capable of that.
@@MH-ev3wr being British. I learned on and pretty much always drive a manual; but the way Doug described the clutch system here sounded like a nightmare for a hill start.
I never drove CGT, but we used to have a 5-speed manual 1991 Mitsubishi Delica L300, it's the car I learned to drive manual. You can shift gears from 1st gear to all the way 3rd, lift the clutch without given gas, and the van will roll, it was very satisfying.
THANK YOU for using a supercar! Your enthusiasm really shows how much you love it. A shame most that can afford it will just let it sit. People that destroy it are the ones that have zero clue what they are doing.
9FF (a german Porsche tuner) made a special clutch for the GT, a mix out of organic and sinter metal pads. They say, that the clutch basically operates the same as in a 911. They even build a Twin Turbo Version for a Saudi guy! Check them out, they even have subtitle available for non-german people!
Doug, love your reviews. I have a CGT a 918 . I agree with most of what you said on your review. Don't put a lift on. You will have regrets. The CGT has 4 and a quarter inches of ground clearance and 3/4 of an inch is a plastic lip at the bottom which can scrape without any damage. If you angle sharply you will be fine. Don't mess with the suspension or electrical. The wing on mine I keep up when I store it. In the down position heat from the engine bay after a drive will cause problems. You always want some hydraulic pressure. I haven't had any problems and I have had mine since 06. Check my channel Car collection advisors. If you would like to collaborate let me know. Maybe I will let you review my new sport classic. I am on the 918 ViP program and I get ever new limited vehicle.
By now, most people who are driving the Carrera GT have replaced the Sachs suspension. If you haven't, I highly recommend you do!! :) It transforms the car and improves it greatly. The car does not get into my garage without the lift, so I'm definitely doing that. I understand the "don't mess with it" and "keep it original" philosophy from a resale perspective, but I truly do not care about resale value -- I care about what's going to make the car more usable. I'm also adding Bluetooth Audio and heated seats -- THE HORROR!!!!
@@DougDeMuro Do you have straight pipes of stock exhaust? It's a shame about your garage #Buy a new house instead of a lift kit?? ha ha. I agree w Michael don't do any mods on the car.
@@DougDeMuro the car is yours and I know you truly love it.. so just send it.. if people think a stock suspension can last 18 years and still be that good has a KW fresh suspension, then there's a problem with them..
Could one of you elaborate on the reasoning behind that advice? On the one hand, I could imagine messing with the suspension negatively affecting the driving experience and it would be good to know if that's the case, but if the advise just ends at "just don't do it" without any further elaboration followed by "don't modify the car in any way" then it sounds driven by collector purism, rather than by any practical concern. As such the advice is not going to sound convincing to anyone that doesn't have a collector mindset.
Per usual - great video Doug! My opinion is that nobody on their death bed will ever regret putting miles one their supercar. I don’t think people will ever think - “I wish I drove my favorite car less” 😂
Completely agree about the clutch. It is super easy, and the weight of depressing the clutch pedal, is nothing different from what you find in old race cars. I absolutely love driving the car, and am super lucky to own one.
I recently bought what I thought was my dream car. Ever since I was a kid, I was obsessed with 90s Japanese sports cars. It all started when my older brother showing me the fast and the furious movies. When we watched Tokyo Drift, I fell in love with the Veilside Fortune Mazda RX-7. At that time, I was living with my grandparents. One day I was talking to my grandpa about my new found obsession. He told me we had a neighbor with a car like that. He walked me over to there house and had them open the garage. I then feasted my eyes on the first Acura NSX I had ever seen in person. It was love at first sight. I was obsessed with the sharp lines and timeless styling. In my early 20s, I worked up to a position where I had about $30K to spend on a "dream car". My love for the RX-7 and the NSX had me looking for either of the 2. I quickly learned that NSXs were out of my price range. They were my favorite stock body cars between the 2, but I only had enough money for a USDM RX-7. So, I bought one. The RX-7 was great and everyone(including myself) loved it. The original design of it just wasn't my style. So, I ordered the Veilside Fortune Widebody Kit from Japan and committed to transforming the exterior of the car. A couple years ars later, the build was complete. I was thrilled with it other than the fact that it was no longer as functional as it was before modifying it. I hated the air suspension. Ultimately, it became to complicated to enjoy on a regular basis. I no longer had the ease of use like any other car I had ever owned. So, I listed it for sale. Before I let it go, I managed to find what I thought was my dream spec NSX listed for sale. It was a RHD 1992 Honda NSX from Japan. It was advertised as having ultra rare Nuetron White Pearl paint "1 of XX" as the seller claimed. So, I jumped at the chance to buy it before he decided to follow through with listing it on carsandbids as he was considering that alternative. The car arrives and appears as described. I was so excited that I committed to having it undergo the entire legal process to be registered in my home state of California. 3 years and $20K later it had California plates. I then sold the Veilside RX7 and awaited my appointment to customize my NSX to my liking. When the time finally came time to lightly modify the NSX to my taste, I was informed that I greatly overpaid for the spec. The lead bodyman/painter showed me that the entire exterior of the car had been repainted a different pearl white(likely do to an accident). It still looked great, but not the way it should. It was way off, but it was still the color combination I wanted. I tried talking to the seller about what we could do to right his wrong of falsely advertising the car and overcharging me. I waited months for him to follow through on his promise to make things square so we could continue our friendship, but nothing ever came of it. He instead told me to share my experience with everyone I wanted to. I did, and we no longer talk. All of that left a sour taste in my mouth. I no longer have a passion for car culture, and my dream car is just a car to me. Don't get me wrong, I love it. I just don't feel the way I should've felt with what I was made to believe I was getting. I've since moved on. I'll take care of my car until it becomes more trouble than it's worth. If I ever trade up, it'll be for a Murcielago.
If the car has a zigarette lighter and a radio, you could buy an FM transmitter to connect your phone to the radio. That lets you connect via bluetooth and then send out your own radio signal on an open frequency. They cost like 20 bucks
Awesome review, Doug! And what a dream car!! A bit surprised that nobody noticed it, but I guess going somewhat under the radar is a testament to the subtle refinement of a Porsche Carrera GT compared to most Ferraris and Lamborghinis.
One headlight lightbulb out = both headlight lightbulbs replaced. The electric conversion for the spoiler & lift system will make this car a great daily driver. You made the right choice with the Porsche.
The fact people don’t go crazy over this car is nuts…as a car person it seems unthinkable that people wouldn’t recognise this car as one of the most iconic
Whenever I see Doug post about his Carrera GT I get so motivated to do what it takes to accomplish my dreams. Hes a wakeup call that things like this are possible
Is the clutch that way by design or just by accident? Also i don't understand the worry about value. Are you going to own the car forever unless you go bankrupt or die? Then why worry about it? If your trying to "invest" in the car then sure but if the keys couldn't be pried from your cold dead hands then just drive it.
I have a 987.1 Cayman S and I connect with Doug on his feelings. My eyes are always on Terminator mode and always on a lookout for dangerous drivers. Knowing very well insurance company is not going to find me a replacement. Recently replaced my clutch and flywheel. Luckily my 3rd party warranty covered the flywheel. The won’t cover clutch cause it’s a wear and tear item. This and a light bulb was the only repair after nearly one year of ownership. Used it as my daily and through our Canadian Winter.
The fact the car flies under the radar is amazing. It's one of the things I didn't like about my 918. The CGT is so much better in pretty much every way than the 918. I know this is controversial, but I think if you're a driver and you've actually driven both, you'd agree with me. When people would look at your car more than they were paying attention to the road, it was scary/dangerous. The fact they don't know what the CGT is makes it just that much better! So happy you are getting to enjoy your car and not letting it sit in the garage. I hope you get many more years of enjoyment from it!
I never understood the criticism about the clutch. The way you describe the clutch operation, that is precisely how I would launch my NC Miata each time from a stop. Slowly let the clutch out fully first, then start applying throttle. No need to fry the clutch otherwise.

I kind of agree with what he said though, get a boxster and put 15,000 miles a year on it and park up front at the store. Cars like this carrera GT are basically for collectors, not enthusiasts. Now the Ford GT, it just has Ford parts, drive the crap out of it.

Cool to hear your comments on the CD player. I was lucky enough to spend some time in a CGT back in 2007, and the owner loved to talk about (and demonstrate) how surprisingly good the stereo was. There’s at least 2 of you out there taking advantage of it.
The stig was the first one.
Freaking Doug is the man, all the fun of a super car, none of the weird looks, seems like the perfect deal
Just Doug. Not his step children.
I actually feel the opposite about the Carrera GT wing. I accept it doesn't do much at speed in it's down position, but I love how the wing is sculpted into the body/tail lights when it's down. When it's up it looks sort of tacked on/boy racer.
I was looking for this type of comment. You are a man of culture sir
I agree.
I like the tacked on body racer look.
This is the way my driving instructor taught me how to drive manual in Bulgaria too. Not sure if all of them are teaching the same way though.
The same here in Spain!
How do you start when you need to go up a steep hill??
I taught my nephew in a church parking lot This way. Clutch in , clutch out, clutch in, brake. Over and over Without shifting. I still joke with him ‘the clutch never lies’ to this day…
that’s mostly because learner cars are diesel engines, they have much more power in the lower rpms, so you don’t need a higher rpm to get going. i’m german myself and i know many people that had a problem after switching from a 150ps diesel learners car to a 90ps gasoline shitbox :D

@@MH-ev3wr I never said it was the engineer’s responsibility.

No - not weird, I like the comparison a lot
i did this on a Laguna 2.2 diesel. it could easily get to third gear before needing the accelerator pedal

Terrific 6 month, 1200 mile review! Thoroughly enjoyed and learned.

Thumbs down for calling everyone else losers. Your money is irrelevant to being a loser or not.
@@dil6969 I think they purposely do that to slow down traffic through town. At least that's always been my feeling, haha
Not every engine is powerfull enough for that..
Yeah sadly its not possible in my fiesta with 60kw...it just doesnt have enough torque to push itself from standstill
So with a clutch like that how can you launch it? I’m legitimately interested on knowing
And then every time you go up a hill the car beeps at you.
interesting info on the clutch. But what about hill starts in this car?
the clutch works like a big commercial truck with my cement truck thats how the clutch works its super easy to get use to and i agree i wish all standard cars had clutches like this
I bought a first generation "doorstop" 1989 Super Red MR2 and it gets daily attention that I would never get in my more expensive performance car. People driving minivans wave at me and the younger crowd love it.
Congratulations Doug... It's a super great feeling when you achieve your dreams. 🙏
Hell yeah Doug! Glad she’s been so good to you and I know there’s a plethora of memories, and future updates to come!
Thanks for the realistic owner experience, the honesty is appreciated. How on earth do you do a hill start in it though?
Doug, Its crazy to see how far youve come. I still remember the Yugo Review. Ive made alot of life decisions based on your reviews.
Doug! Does the clutch operate the same way on a steep hill start?
Exactly what I was thinking, considering the displacement It is probably torquey enough to push no matter how steep it is.
Cool Beetle, dude.
I love the t-Shirt! I owned two Allroad's and can't agree more :)
Also, Love to see that you're actually driving the Carrera GT like it deserves!
I've had a CGT for 10 years. Agree w/ most all of what you had to say esp re lift kit/clearance
I can't believe it has been 6 months 😳 it feels like its been a a little over 1 month
Surely Doug is familiar with this device.
@@timkinley1779 i thought so too... but who knows :P
You can tell how awesome the car is by Doug literally catching his breath while talking about it :)))
Drive safe out there! Everyone has a video camera in their pocket 😉
He was trying to get away from the Tesla
EXACTLY!!! And the same happens to the 959 too!
Whenever I see Doug post about his Carrera GT I get so motivated to do what it takes to accomplish my dreams. Hes a wakeup call that things like this are possible
Things break on a low mileage Porsche (a few gremlins) Things break on a high mileage Land rover (its a piece of sh*t)
9:29 I feel the same way about my 2020 Ecoboost Mustang premium pony package "Heritage edition" when you find the right car it's just the right car.
He will swap this to a Countach sooner or later😂
Rev it up to 9k and dump the clutch
Would love to see this
I have a 987.1 Cayman S and I connect with Doug on his feelings.
I love that you love and enjoy it as I loved a few cars I’ve had despite the majority of owners locking them away a garage.
