The year was 2007 and I was twenty years old. I was working for a local Porsche-Audi dealer as a shuttle driver when a customer brought in one of these Carrera GTs for some work. I count myself lucky to have been there when he returned to pick it up. He crawled out of the lot and onto the street that ran out front of the dealer and then made his way to the stop sign with the major highway. Just as I gave up on hearing anything from it, this primordial scream came forth as he floored it away from the stop sign and it was as if the checkered flag had just dropped on a one-car F1 race. He ran it straight to redline and even though he was well away from the building, the volume never seemed to diminish. I'd never heard anything like it and even now, 13 years later I can still hear it in my head and it never fails to make the hairs on my neck stand up. What a car!!!!

Watching this and listening to Harry’s enjoyment actually had me blubbing with tears in my eyes. I remember driving through the Blackwall tunnel in my R53 Mini Cooper S when I heard what I thought was a UFO coming up behind me in what can only be described as the ultimate tunnel run. The high pitched noise didn’t even sound like a car. All I could do was move over and let them pass. Wow. I thought it was a UFO but of course it was the Carrera GT. 😢
This Carrera GT and the F-40 both give you a wild race car ride.. The noise, the acceleration, and the handling are just like a true track car. You have to drive them all.. including a McLaren F1 or P1
As a Boxster owner, it's really neat to see the similarities between the Carrera GT and the Boxster. The door jambs look the same, the front hood looks the same (though probably carbon) and of course the instrument cluster and steering wheel look to be the same unit (also shared with 996). It's remarkable how well finished this car is compared to something like a Lamborghini of the same vintage - the details are bordering on apple consumer product - level attention.
My absolute all time favorite car and there is no way it will ever change. I already know I'll re-watch this video at least 3 times like all the others. Thank you!
I first ‘heard’ this at Porsche Guildford in around 2001 or 2. Just popped in and it was behind a screen in the showroom. Somebody drove off- exquisite
On Sunday I was in Zuffenhausen/GER to visit PORSCHE museum - they have this industrial jewel also there, dressed in red. The design is not so breath-taking, as Lambos or Ferraris, but that engine is masterpiece...and with Walter Röhrl in developement, there could not be a mistake. Thank you, Harry.
An excellent review of one of my all-time favourite cars 👌! Thanks for including the history with the launch event as well. I also liked that you based your opinion on other cars of the same genre.
I used to work next door to HRE Wheels in Vista, CA and one day I was sitting at my desk and heard what sounded like a Formula One car race by the building (this was back when Formula One cars had V10 engines). Of course I had to go out and see what it was and I found out it was a black Porsche Carrera GT, a Maserati MC12, a rather pedestrian Ferrari F430 and a Lamborghini of some sort (might have been a Gallardo-it may have been orange... I don't remember). The guy driving the Porsche Carrera GT was taking one of the guys from HRE for a spin around the building and doing donuts in the back parking lot with it. Apparently, they all drove down from Orange County and one of the group in another Porsche got pulled over by CHP for doing well over 100mph. I'll never own one of these cars but I have seen a couple of them in the wild and they sound amazing. Thanks again for the great videos!
Been lucky enough to see some of these on the road a handful of times, mostly in LA / Malibu area. Great review on a unbelievable car. Thank you Harry!

You just reminded me that the kids used to shave the flywheels of the Volkswagen people's cars when I was a teenager, in order to give the car acceleration. Of course, taking one's foot off the accelerator was an adventure in the revs dropping. And who can forget Jay Leno's record drive on an American race track in the Porsche GT?
@@ArtVandelayOfficial why would I joke,. The sound is an opinion but the speed is non negotiable the Agera regera and jesko all three would smoke any porche even a 911 everybody knows a coineggsegg has the best sound
Late September last year, I had the most insane driving experience. I got the opportunity to try not only a Carrera GT but also a 959 and a 918 Spyder. It was a pretty rainy day but you hardly noticed that in the 918, extremely competent but also too competent. It mostly felt like driving a computer game. The 959 was fantastic and felt very special to drive, and also a childhood dream to be able to drive a super car from the 80's. But the car that really got my head spinning was the Carrera GT. A totally crazy car! The specific car I was driving had a sport exhaust and was chipped as well to 610 hp. The sound and the driving experience was just out of this world! And I can tell you it was a bit scary to drive it in wet, it was spinning in any gear. And the owner had before showed a lot of videos of crashed Carrera GT:s as well... But what a car this Carrera GT is to drive. Totally analogue and I think that's why I just loved it! Thanks Harry for reminding me of the experience!

Well this is a great unexpected start to the morning! Thanks for the video as always!
It's beyond criminal that I can only give one like to this video. Well done Harry.
Christmas came early this year!
Well they were designed by the same person and the CGT concept was also built upon a Boxster chassis!
i wonder if there is more or less space in a CGT than a boxster?
That exhaust note!!!
this makes me so happy, never ever going to see one in RL let alone afford it but god i love it
My absolute all time favorite car and there is no way it will ever change. I already know I'll re-watch this video at least 3 times like all the others. Thank you!
The car we have all been waiting for Harry to review! Great video as always Harrysgarage.
I first ‘heard’ this at Porsche Guildford in around 2001 or 2. Just popped in and it was behind a screen in the showroom. Somebody drove off- exquisite
Add one to the collection Harry! It’s growing up in value and for sure is a blast of a car.
Exactly ! while it is still relatively cheap..
That sound puts chills down the spine!
Harry, thank you for what you do for auto enthusiasts. I can see and hear that you're one of them (us).
One of your best videos Harry. This needs to be a Sticky on the TH-cam welcome page for any car fan.
One of my favourite cars, and one of the best sounding cars (road or race) ever. I still remember the first time I saw a video of one of these with straight pipe exhausts, it was simply fantastic.
Wow, tanx Harry. I'd lost my owners manual and couldn't remember how to store my roof panels. Details like this, make this video series so frickin cool.... love it !!
Incredible sound!
That sound. 10/10
Guess that makes a 917 12/12
And this video just made them more expensive! That last seconds of the video are pure joy! Before all this pops and bangs none sense!
Excellent video, but I really liked watching that Porsche Carrera GT without the roof, in the street. Greetings from Chile! :) 🇨🇱
The engine of this car has a voice and sings beautifully every time you put your foot down, Harry. Great video. 👍
Love how much Harry loves the Carrera GT. It does sound amazing too, and very mechanical.
God, that exhaust note on the outro. What a snarling, sassy thing that V10 is.
One of the best sounding cars of all time! Great review as always
Jason Matthews The stock exhaust is a little mellow, decats should make it sing
Agera sounds better and is faster
@@johnmoates5709 are you joking
@@ArtVandelayOfficial why would I joke,. The sound is an opinion but the speed is non negotiable the Agera regera and jesko all three would smoke any porche even a 911 everybody knows a coineggsegg has the best sound
John Moates coineggsegg eh?
Wow! Simply put, that was pretty special. Harry's knowledge and enthusiasm nailed that.....one thing, would've liked his top down view.
Brilliant review of one of the all time great cars 👌🏻
I love the contemptuous sneer from Harry at 16:38. 'This car has done 2,400 miles...'
If you don't mind me asking, how did you get the opportunity to drive these amazing cars? Does a friend of yours own them or something? I wish to one day drive them aswell...
@@rodrigomatos1636 Yes, it's a friend who has a small collection of Porsches (5 cars, all in black). It was really an insane experience to drive all these cars, and especially the Carrera GT!
David Kjellden your are really lucky
I remember when it came out...I had a big poster of it. I remember saying this thing is weird but...it´s brutal. I was not wrong. My favorite Carrera GT Review ever. Thanks.
Seems like Doug Demuro missed all these details...
Doug's an idiot
Who is Doug ?
How dare you....the Doug never misses anything 😄
"THISSS" is why you watch Harry's videos
He’s a “low information” presenter.
Always worth watching Harry's videos with headphones on...this one particularly!
My two dream cars the F1 and CGT. Oh my days. Great review, Harry.
After so many video about the Carrera GT where everybody complains about the clutch; finally, somebody explaining the good reason for it!! Very happy to learn!
If I had to have one car for the rest of my life, this is it.
I'd go for a McLaren f1
This is an absolutely fantastic car by any measure but if you only had one car and this was the car you went shopping in, took the children to cello practice in, went on holiday in etc., you would quickly wish you had picked something else.
@@joshuarosen6242 well worth it my man
@@putzak I doubt you'd still say that after driving for more than 5 hours on the highway
@@benjaminbuljevic7977 only have a 15 minute commute so no worries there
This video is a complete ace start to finish. The engine notes closing out each HG vid are always memorable, this one might take the cake... Stunning.
The greatest non-911 Porsche ever!
They were built next door. I used to hear them running around the test track every morning. That was special.
