Later, we finally get some shipping information about it, it’s shipping from China, and that’s why it’s taking so long. After waiting for a while it finally arrived at our PO Box. The next day my mom picks it up. Once she gets home I go out to the car and ask if she has it. She tells me that all they sent was a pair of socks. White socks. In a small little package. What was even sadder was that this was for me and my brothers, and they scammed my grandma and us. Scammers suck.

Hey, Glyph backer here! I actually haven't tried it myself, but the 'VR' mode I think was restricted to operating as a mouse or whatever. I seriously forget, and that feature was introduced FAR later into the Kickstarter. It was really just supposed to be a media headset and honestly nothing else. I know you have to set up the Bluetooth functions or something for the 'VR' stuff. VR function: yeah, it's a scam. Media though, as originally pitched? Anything but. Honestly, I used it a lot for travel, and just plugged my phone in to have a nice media watching experience. Seriously, that display is honestly one of the best I've seen in a while for the coverage it offers. Fun fact: Part of the Kickstarter trailer had Philip Rosedale in it, founder of Linden Lab (Second Life) and at the time was in charge of High Fidelity VR. In a weird way, that may be why the headset eventually got 'VR' support, but then again, guess what happened to High Fidelity? It basically shut its VR services down in January of this year. Woops!
Yeah the issue is getting the head tracker connected. There's a mouse mode and then some traditional head tracker mode closer to something like the old headbands that people used to use.
A long time ago, I bought a Sony phone with a 4K screen. It practically eliminated the screen door effect. It kind of looked like my old movie scream that used white sand. How about you try one!

Okay lets gets some things straight about the Avegant Glyph. It was made in 2016 and retailed for about $460 USD. It was sold as an HMD at the time not a VR headset. It uses an incredible technology where it has no screens! No screens means no screen door effect, a beautiful bright display and perfect blacks. Think DLP, it projects the image into your eyes. Don't let the 720p res fool you this picture is insanely crisp. A lot of FPV drone pilots love this headset because of the amazing quality and bright display in sunlight. The headset also does support 3D with the press of a button on the side. The audio is amazing and it does support some head tracking through built in gyroscope but to take advantage of this you need to plug the USB into the PC along with the HDMI (USB is not required for viewing just for tracking) with the USB plugged in the PC will see it as an HID in device manager. So you have head tracking and 3D that's still not quite VR but it's pretty damn amazing. You can adjust each eye lens independently so if you have perhaps slightly better vision in one eye that can be addressed. Unlike a VR headset you can see below and above because it doesn't fully immerse you. It's sort of like having a 55 inch screen hovering in front of your face. The picture quality can not be understated! I have personally experimented with using this to play games like Titanfall 2 and Mirrors Edge in VR with VORPx. I have also tested this in combination with Track IR5 in various racing games for a really nice sort of sudo VR experience. I mean the best picture you will ever see mounted to your face with head tracking and great frame rates even on lower end systems because its only needing 720p input! This is a fantastic choice for the right person.
Been a while since I saw the Avegant hmd. I recall 6 years ago or so them talking about it. They said it was a lazer display. The It was small a fancy looking. They claimed they could send the image directly to your retina. I thought it was kinda cool but worried a laser to the retina sounded like a bad idea...
My dad is actually really into vr and technology so when I asked for my oculus rift he knew “oh we getting this bitch” and got it first try so I have no experience on this knockoff stuff so this is gonna be interesting...
It’s a bit loose from being adjusted almost every time but it still works well enough for regular use and somehow we never damaged the lenses after almost a full year of its use
I tried the cardboard as a child and was impressed because well I was a child but as an adult I always thought vr was lame until my girlfriends little brother let me try his quest for the walking dead and fnaf and it was actually dope so I order a quest 2 but I have to wait a month
You honestly deserve way more clout for the content you deliver, I can't wait tbh! Someday, when VR FINALLY becomes fully mainstream and available to the vast majority of people, this channel is definitely going to blow up!
Yeah, the people will be all like, "wow, VR was whack back in the 20s. Look at what these crazy fuckers were strapping to their faces!" Seriously, though, like today we joke about how we used to have to "call the internet on our telephones". I can't wait for the day when we can joke that VR used to be something that we "strapped to our faces". XD
VR is pretty mainstream now. Just grab a Quest and enjoy life man. Alternatively, you could wait for the next wave of VR headsets, I've got the OG Rift and I'm waiting to upgrade until the next wave.
I bought a gear VR back in 2016 bundled with my then-new Samsung S7 and when the plastic strap holder broke on one side a few years later, I decided to try another smartphone-based headset and I opted for the Destek V5 (released in 2021) in combination with a Samsung A20s phone... and I have to say, the GearVR is still a lot better than the newest kind of generic headset today, even when used with a bigger and better phone... the only improvement would be the far longer battery life and almost no excessive heat with the newer phone, where the S7 (and especially the S6) would heat up a LOT and triggering the infamous "the device is running too hot, please let it cool down first" message, which sometimes can be tapped away and sometimes locked you completely out of the oculus app. the 2 main benefits of the gearVR for me were the feature to be able to use it without wearing your glasses and a far better stereoscopic effect.

i went to five below one time with my mother and i saw a 5$ cardboard vr headset and me know it was for phone wanted it so i kept asking... . . we left without cardboard...

The only entry level headset I can recommend. I love it so much for its versatility and the fact that it's a hybrid headset with the best inside out 6DoF tracking I've seen this far. So much easier to convince friends this is the future since I can bring it anywhere too.
The rule of thumb I think, especially in a space as enthusiastic as VR, is that if you think it’s a scam, it’s a scam. Otherwise you’d be hearing all about it all the time as “THE ENTRY LEVEL VR HEADSET WEVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!” (A space that I would argue has now been filled by the Quest 2)
The Avegant was never meant to be a VR headset and at the time it was clearly stated it is not a VR headset. Even now Avegant calls it Video headset on their website. However it does it's ting very well. You get an extraordinary image quality. I use one to play regular games in 3D ( like Battlefield and COD) And the technology of DLP projection they are using could give the best VR image but for some reason no one is looking into it. Imagine a 4x bigger DLP and Prism, what kind of image quality could give you in VR, compared to a Screen.
Would have loved the last one 3 mounth ago I broke my oculus rift And tried to play vr whit the controller but...not the headset....but whit my monitor ! So that last one would have improved my littel crafted vr XD

I got a phone vr so long ago but never gave up on vr even tho it seemed kinda trash and then this year saw a commercial for the quest 2 and thought that's what I'm getting for Christmas and I love it
If you ever buy an oculus headset, don't buy it from the official store. Pick it up from Curry's or off amazon, it's taking 3 weeks for mine to arrive. It's been "processing for shipping" for 6 days and I've been charged, despite them saying they only charge when it's ready to be shipped, which takes 1-2 business days.

Thought you were a 6 year old wearing headphones lol
Bruh not cool
What does that mean?
When you're young it doesn't occur to you that wearing headphones the wrong way looks weird af
Just that these aren't headphones

Been a while since I saw the Avegant hmd. I recall 6 years ago or so them talking about it. They said it was a lazer display. The It was small a fancy looking. They claimed they could send the image directly to your retina. I thought it was kinda cool but worried a laser to the retina sounded like a bad idea...
If you wanna have a cool laser show blasted directly onto your retina, go see your ophthalmologist and ask for an OCT. Those are safe at least :)
Would love to see some more whack VR headsets like this.
Realiteer was a phone vr company that had some pretty cold stuff, would be cool if you reviewed them, but they don’t make games anymore
You're videos are always great. Thanks for trying out these crappy headsets so I don't have to. How about one of those vive lip trackers?
My dad is actually really into vr and technology so when I asked for my oculus rift he knew “oh we getting this bitch” and got it first try so I have no experience on this knockoff stuff so this is gonna be interesting...
How’s that ipd adjustment?
It’s a bit loose from being adjusted almost every time but it still works well enough for regular use and somehow we never damaged the lenses after almost a full year of its use
I just straight up explained differences of phone and real headsets
1:34 I also find myself needing headphones for my nightly green screen browsing

OMFG THE RIFT S AT 13:06 IS SO AWESOME. IT HAS 64 GBS OF STORAGE!!!1!!11!!!!

@@wtprkek1847 i was going to buy a rift s being honest, but then i realized the quest 2 is just the rift s plus the quest so ye
Look at what these crazy fuckers were strapping to their faces!"
Seriously, though, like today we joke about how we used to have to "call the internet on our telephones".
Thank you! I was curious about this “headset” for a while. I wanted to know if it’s worth it. Now I know
Solid video, thrill. This kinda of content and Newsday are great. Been following for over a year and I love seeing the content evolve.
0:00 the music is AGST - Distant if anyone is wondering
The last HMD would be cool if it was 1440p 120 FPS, I'd love to game on something like that.
Really like your Inguz rune tattoo! I have lots of runes all over me, hehe.

@@K1NG1O probably, keeps the PC cool I guess :D I actually thought about saving the 50-200$ on the case and plopping the whole pc down on the mobo box and calling it a day .__. But then decided that It would get too dusty and I'd have to clean it too often >_>
@@mataskart9894 depends on how you design the open case and its cooling system. Cases actually act as a vacuum that create a steady current of air over the components, making it better for cooling than just having them sitting out like that.
I gotta quest yesterday and im lovin it i had a psvt before and this is a huge upgrade but nothing can beat the davnbusterd vr rides
actually one cousin of mine got a kind of experience from my mobile vr headset that I wasn't expecting.
back when there were sites that let you have Amazon products for free if you have a review and stating as such in your review, I got one for totally free.
the next day my cousin's came over and I decided to get a rollercoaster vr app and give it to them. they all thought it was pretty neat, and the last one nearly fell out of her chair. she then told me she has a fear of heights.
so I have at least one anecdote that mobile vr doesn't entirely suck
This was a cool video, I can see the third headset as a cool third monitor.
Woah, a VR ceramic ornament for the Christmas tree! Hahah

i went to five below one time with my mother and i saw a 5$ cardboard vr headset and me know it was for phone wanted it so i kept asking... . . we left without cardboard...
Glyph + Single board computer = "cyberdeck". Really shines for digital based drone operation as most RC headsets are analog.
Thrillseeker: pays $150 for HMD claiming to be VR.
Me: pays $100 for Oculus rift on Facebook marketplace
Me: waiting months for quest being in stoxk and then pays 450 euro's + wait a week before delivery
My brother: plays mine, buys a genuine 2 times used quest for 250 euros the next day on Dutch Craigslist.

The only entry level headset I can recommend. I love it so much for its versatility and the fact that it's a hybrid headset with the best inside out 6DoF tracking I've seen this far. So much easier to convince friends this is the future since I can bring it anywhere too.
Any games you recommend? (Except for BeatSaber & Super Hot)
Eye Reveal yay!
He did it in the cosmos review
When he said he’ll plead the fifth. I respect that 🙏
The rule of thumb I think, especially in a space as enthusiastic as VR, is that if you think it’s a scam, it’s a scam.

Alright the fact that you also have a a google pixel phone makes me instantly love you
