How would Isaiah Austin's career have turned out had he been able to play in the league? Also am I alone in hating the "Honorary" draft? You dress up and bring out all your family, taste your dream, all for them to not let you in the door. Must've been tough to deal with for him.
I hate it too. But if the NBA fulfilled their promises to him to have a position in the front office some time soon, I'll still be happy for him that his career would STILL move forward, even though he's not playing anymore.
I don't feel as if his growth was stunted. It was just one of those things that he really couldn't control. Overall, he made it further than most of these hoopers and now he's doing good in life! Austin you are a legend in my books! 💯
Bottomline, when the NBA saw his diagnosis the first name that came to their minds was Hank Gathers(RIP) and they didn’t want a similar situation to happen.
Can you do videos on Derrick Williams Brandon Knight Justice Winslow Andrew and Aaron Harrison Thomas Robinson Ty Lawson Jabari Parker Jahlil Okafor Austin Rivers Royce White Perry Jones Just to name a few, I know some of these guys are still in the league but I'd like to see them in future videos.
Waivers, lawyers, insurance policies, and PR have the final say in a lot of decisions that big business like the NBA make. If there's a 0.1% chance of a player dying in an NBA game or practice, the league isn't going to take that chance. They might make an exception for a proven star who has fans and sells merch if it's good PR, but they aren't going to take that chance to on a kid most NBA fans won't remember after draft night is over.
I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. Heaven Bless Isaiah Austin. Great human being, who is at peace with the unfortunate hand he was dealt. My Dad unexpectedly passed away in 2003 (we believe an embolism), and until Thanksgiving 2003 (when I MYSELF went to the ER, with what fortunately was just "anxiety"), seriously thought about ENDING my own life.
I don't often disagree with you, but I think it was best Austin didn't get that chance. There are more important things in life and that's life itself. I would have hated to see a player who were to die on the basketball court. As you've said, there are more to life than basketball. Marfan Syndrome isn't something that can be taken lightly, and if Austin were to pass out, that would be really bad PR as well. I think he did what he could, the level competition where he played is nowhere near the NBA and the stress on the body would have been different. The NBA is a scumbag league, but I respect this particular decision.
That shit sucks, man. They should have let him try. All these damn injuries people come in with (Thinking Blair and his lack of cartilage, Greg Oden!). What would be wrong with drafting him 2nd round or a 10-day or something.
the reason he was this good was because of the health issues, had he not had marfan syndrome he wouldn’t be 7ft, had long arms or fingers that are beneficial to basketball players, it’s just really really unfortunate
This Bol Bol is the reason I hate comparisons to Wemby. Once they start talking about how versatile he is I just roll my eyes. If you ever seen Isiah then you would truly understand how far the talent gap is. Isaiah wasn’t Wemby, but he was far better than Bol Bol. I remember watching Baylor games saying, “He going to be great once he gets a little more size.” A great midrange shooter, could hit the 3, had a handle, and the reason why we need to stop comparing Bol Bol to Wemby… HE PLAYED DEFENSE! He was a rim protector who gave the same effort on both ends of the court.
Young Jabari Parker, what happened to that kid, I think he's a Celtic but he's Stunted Growth material. BTW we love Isaiah down here in Bear Country, him, nephew Pierre Jacskon, Duece Bello, Perry Jones and all them cats. Baylor c/o 2000

Yep that honorary draft doesn't give you first round lottery pick contract

Royce White Jr From Minnesota, Iowa State , Lottery pick #14
And what's really messed up about this is they allowed Lamarcus Aldridge to come back after his life threatening injury, so damn quick too, smh.
They also let Bosh play after the blood clots
He had the perfect game for this era

I'm glad you covered his story

Can you do videos on

Perry jones was a physical freak 💯
Perry jones and Royce white PLEEEEEAAAASE.
I thought he was going to be great in the league. I really liked his game. Sad that he couldn't play. He's balling for the BIG 3 tho.

He would have had a long and successful nba career imo. Sad what happened to him but atleast he can still play the game he loves.
Austin has been basically unstoppable in the BIG3
This story always brought me closer to tearing up. And so did this video. Thanks JC. Great vid

I can't believe you made this, haven't heard of him for a while
I do agree with him suit up for at least one game and also let score just one time... I am hurting for the man.. I wish him and family the best..
How does Stunted Growth not get more views? amazing
He be holding it down in the BIG 3
As someone with retinopathy that also loves basketball… man it really hits home watching this. But God always makes a way.
Sadly he gets banned , but in hindsight that decision probably saved his life.
I followed this dude’s story back in the day. He could have become what AD became IMO
Just watched him in ice cube's Big 3 in person. He was is a special talent. 7'1 with skills of a guard entertaining to watch.

Great video
Get that man a documentary

You didnt even mention the big 3
I can only imagine how good he would've been if he hadn't had the health issues. He could have been an Anthony Davis type of player
Yea I could see him dealing with a lot of injuries like AD but games when injury free and on fire being hard to stop without double teams.
I Say A Marcus Camby Type Player

This story so sad🤒😭🤦♂️
i really like his game in the Big 3. he was nice
dude could had been the next Antony Davis
He was really good playing in the BIG3 this year. It's just too bad he had to play with Swaggy P. lol
I saw this dude play live in hs at a camp he was the show and his daddy crazy lol
U gotta do Greg Oden bro 👀👀
Do Johnathan bender
He’s already featured

@@henning14 oh shit I didn’t notice
Very interesting story. We heard it here first! #stuntedgrowth
You can’t say he was blessed physically when he’s loss of vision is the reason he didn’t make it.
Broadie was COLD.. he would have been a demon in the league

I remember Isaiah Austin....you can't help but not like this guy.

NBA is weak for that shit smh
He was in my high school class. Dude is highly skilled despite only having one eye.
I just wished Isaiah Austin played as a naturalized player for the Philippines.
There really needs to be more room for players with disabilities in the league.
Wow how do the doctors miss that
His eye stunted his growth 🥺😢
Wow, I sure didn't know he played 5 more years.
I was just wondering about him then this video popped up
We have the same middle and last name crazy
Man do John Wall please
SC30
I.m blind in one eye too
did you really just compare this man to a avacado?
DAMN I REMEMBER WAT HAPPENED TO HIM BRO WAS RAW
Lost my little respect for the NBA.
Repent from your sins and live for Jesus Christ 😊
