I'd say so because there was more hype behind him and people who generally wanted to see Morrison succeed. Bennett was just a bad pick in a poor draft class.
I was gonna say the exact same thing you and Pancho Baldridge just said. The expectations were higher for him while Bennett was a weak pick in an even weaker draft.
A friend of mine who worked security for Charlotte said that Adam had terrible hygiene and didn't fit in with the team because he stunk so bad. Everyone made fun of him behind the scenes.
The ACL and draft team he went to were the biggest stunts but I’d argue his diabetes were just as impactful. He really struggled adjusting to the nba schedule and the rigours of it. In college it was easier for him to maintain it as they didn’t play as many games. Still one of the greatest college players to lace them up over the past 20 years.
This was the major reason, the hectic schedule would play around with his energy levels leaving him feel flat. You see most players suffer a burn out in their first few years and the second year blues. That's gonna be amplified with diabetes, plus he dealing with mature bodies and more athletic players. The ACL was just the nail in the coffin. Still could've had a role like a Novak or even a Dunleavy jr.
As a type 1 diabetic regardless of what he did in the NBA seeing the success he had at Gonzaga made me push my self even harder seeing how it was possible for people like us to do anything in the sports world
If things worked out just a little better, he could have at least played 10 plus seasons in the association, maybe as a 3 point specialist like Kyle Korver. Too bad too, I think his success would have been good for more regular people who look at playing the game for the love of it and playing right, etc.
For a diabetic to go as far as he did is just insane looking back at the era he joined. I’m sure he had battles even trying to get to most games during college and the league. Definitely impressive and shows how much he loved the game.
Adam Morrison was compare to Larry bird. he had a legendary season at Gonzaga. He was shooting 40%percent for three in college and NCAA player of the year between Adam morrison and jj redick. And he would have been a solid role player coming off the bench.
JJ and coach K knew how to maximize his role, coming off screens and quick release and play tight defense. He was never meant to be a all around stud or even a big scorer outside of that. Morrison was meant to be all everything especially on offense at GU and he never really got on the floor long enough to work it out for the Bobcats.
He was a good offensive player...his defense sucked but going to the bobcats killed him... he was no where near close to being a franchise player at the time.
I really enjoy the videos, how about doing a video on Jonathan Simmons he played on the Spurs and then basically disappeared after wanting to leave that team.
seeing Morrison on the bench wearing a suit is always hilarious to me. I like Morrison's personality; diabetes and injuries undoubtedly stunted his growth.
When he was coming out of college I’d figured he’d be a first round pick. But not 3rd overall! 😄 Getting drafted that high put unrealistic expectations on him. If he’d gone towards the bottom end of the lottery or the mid first round he could have gone to a team that would have had a better development plan for him. On a side note: Adam Morrison Kwame Brown Michael Kidd-Gilcrest Jared Jeffries Does MJ know how to draft? 😄
That's been one of the biggest criticisms of MJ or those around him that he just can't spot talent. There are more - He drafted Sean May, Raymond Felton, Okafor (which looked great at the time but turned out to be mediocre), Drafted Shai G-A then traded him immediately, DJ Augustin, Brandan Wright, Cody Zeller, Noah Vonleh, Frank Kaminsky....Just an insane amount of terrible picks. Also had awful FA signings like Tyrus Thomas and Nick Batum. Kemba and LaMelo are the only picks he's like REALLY hit on.
I was never sold on him. Not only did he have poor lateral quickness but he didn't have a quick release, it was never going to be easy for him to get shots off at the pro level. The knee injury definitely ruined any chance he had of making a career for himself, but that rookie shooting percentage was frightening. There's not too many guys who start their career off getting the touches he did and shooting so poorly who turned it around and had good careers.
The Scouts hyped him up like Anthony Bennett. Adam Morrison was solid diabetes is no joke some people can only push themselves to a certain limit but he was better than Bennett
