Is he a bigger bust than Anthony Bennett? Either way, still made the NBA and had some great experiences. www.patreon.com/stuntedgrowth

I'd say so because there was more hype behind him and people who generally wanted to see Morrison succeed. Bennett was just a bad pick in a poor draft class.

The ACL and draft team he went to were the biggest stunts but I’d argue his diabetes were just as impactful. He really struggled adjusting to the nba schedule and the rigours of it. In college it was easier for him to maintain it as they didn’t play as many games. Still one of the greatest college players to lace them up over the past 20 years.

    • @jaked6903
      @jaked6903 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

This was the major reason, the hectic schedule would play around with his energy levels leaving him feel flat. You see most players suffer a burn out in their first few years and the second year blues. That's gonna be amplified with diabetes, plus he dealing with mature bodies and more athletic players. The ACL was just the nail in the coffin. Still could've had a role like a Novak or even a Dunleavy jr.

If things worked out just a little better, he could have at least played 10 plus seasons in the association, maybe as a 3 point specialist like Kyle Korver. Too bad too, I think his success would have been good for more regular people who look at playing the game for the love of it and playing right, etc.

Morrison was meant to be all everything especially on offense at GU and he never really got on the floor long enough to work it out for the Bobcats.

When he was coming out of college I’d figured he’d be a first round pick. But not 3rd overall! 😄 Getting drafted that high put unrealistic expectations on him. If he’d gone towards the bottom end of the lottery or the mid first round he could have gone to a team that would have had a better development plan for him. On a side note:
    Adam Morrison
    Kwame Brown
    Michael Kidd-Gilcrest
    Jared Jeffries
Does MJ know how to draft? 😄

That's been one of the biggest criticisms of MJ or those around him that he just can't spot talent. There are more - He drafted Sean May, Raymond Felton, Okafor (which looked great at the time but turned out to be mediocre), Drafted Shai G-A then traded him immediately, DJ Augustin, Brandan Wright, Cody Zeller, Noah Vonleh, Frank Kaminsky....Just an insane amount of terrible picks. Also had awful FA signings like Tyrus Thomas and Nick Batum. Kemba and LaMelo are the only picks he's like REALLY hit on.

I was never sold on him. Not only did he have poor lateral quickness but he didn't have a quick release, it was never going to be easy for him to get shots off at the pro level.
The knee injury definitely ruined any chance he had of making a career for himself, but that rookie shooting percentage was frightening. There's not too many guys who start their career off getting the touches he did and shooting so poorly who turned it around and had good careers.

His game just didn’t transcend to the NBA level. He couldn’t create his own shot and was too slow to defend on the perimeter. His hype at Gonzaga was well deserved, he brought it while he was there.
But to the trained eye, he could only really play off the ball offensively, which means his team would have to set a bunch of picks for him to get open, and you couldn’t mask him defensively playing team defense. His body just couldn’t take that NBA pounding night in and night out.
But he got his bag, won a couple of chips with the Lakers and has lead a very successful life, all things considered.
His comparison to Larry Bird, one of the greatest ever, was way to much for him. But it would be for anyone.
While although a bench player, he has nothing to be ashamed about.

Part of the push back was due the media. They always hype the next 'great white hope' ala jimmer fredette or Johnny Manziel. Morrisons rookie stats are likely what he could've brought to a team off the bench. His defense was so suspect prior to the injury that it's still a mystery why Charlotte took him so high, but I guess they were all in on Okafor's D and figured Wallace could guard the best perimeter player. Even more so when you consider they didn't provide him the green light.
