Perry Jones gave me Earl Clark vibes but Perry Jones seemed like he would've had a higher ceiling. How about Vernon Maxwell stunted growth or Micheal Finley?
@@highlightboy23 Finley was 1 of my favorite wing players too he had that pattenant sweet pull jumper and he would back door or go hard in the lane Poster dunk on anyone. Prime Penny ,Finley and and VanExel were 3 out of my 5 favorites from the 90s.
One thing i learned about the NBA is you need to find your role within the team. He may not have been the next “go to” guy but he could’ve honed his skills as a 3 and D big. A lot of young prospects with natural athletic gifts get pressured to be the next _____ and if they’re not they’re considered a “bust” I.e Andrew Wiggins, Perry Jones, Dennis Smith jr etc
Imo jones’ biggest hurdle definitely seems to be his confidence. He clearly had the natural athleticism and size but not the coordination and in game iq that other top tier players in his age group had. Imo that probably became evident in college and the league. He also never developed a consistent 3pt shot nor was a good enough defender to be a reliable 3 and D option. Just goes to show that being tall and athletic won’t always guarantee success in the pros
@@RainSupreme Besides Andrew Wiggins first year he was never the first option. After KAT was drafted the system ran through what makes KAT his best version of himself.
I cant imagine KD being a willing mentor for a rookie that plays the same position as him, especially back in 2010. KD seems too coldblooded to take anyone under his wing in any capacity.
Funny thing about Duhon is that his growth got stunted during college, not the NBA. He was a SUPER high recruit, a starter on Duke's 2001 title team, then never reached the potential he was supposed to...BUT he still got drafted in the second round and had a very solid like 11 year career in the NBA as a backup, spot starter. So, I'm not sure if his growth was ultimately stunted, given he had a long, fairly productive NBA career.
Back then i thought the same thing, that being kd backup would be the best thing, your videos always give a new perspective and now looking at the league, you are absolutely right, throw them in the fire
I loved watching Baylor guys like him and Quincy Miller. Guys like them and Mitch McGary really blew my mind how they never panned out, but it kind od makes sense looking back.

They needed a big to make LeBron and Wade change their mind mid air. Perkins at that time was that type of big who made guys miss layups because of his size avoiding to get shot block.
Please do one on Marcus Mann. He was drafted by Golden State in 96. He was the Swac player of the year and NCAA rebound leader in 96. He went to MS Valley. He quit GS a day before his first game and left to become a preacher. He's from my area. Basketball legend that made it and quit.
The league is tough. Reminds of a bunch of other guys. Not sure if you did this one or not, but if you remember C.J. Leslie, he's another guy that was projected NBA 1st round by some mock drafts in 2013. Ended up going undrafted out of NC State from that 2013 team with my guy Ryan Harrow and Lorenzo Brown. Flamed out shortly afterwards. Dominic Artis comes to mind too. Got caught up in some mess during his time at Oregon and never really got back on track.
I think a different college in texas would've been better for him. He went to Baylor at a time when they had multiple guys who were the same height and interchangable. Playing on a "positionless", athletic team at that time wasn't good for his development. They played like an AAU stacked team. the only position they needed solidified was PG. He needed to be on a team where he could dominate the wing/one-side of the court by himself. Maybe Texas or Texas Tech would've gave him that space. Then his mid-range and driving to the basketabll would've been better coming into the NBA. My Pistons would've been a great spot for a developing wing player at that time.
7:53 I totally disagree, I loved Perry Jones game. He wasn’t meant to be a scorer he could’ve been a starter PF. Thunder we’re starting freakin Perkins at Center. If Perry Jones bought into being a glue guy he could’ve gotten solid PT like a Morris twin.
many times that all around game n not having 1 true position stunts ur growth because in the nba u have to have a true position initially so that u could dominate there n then be used in other positions to show how flexible u r..but when ur good at a lot of things but great at nothing u can be outshined by people who take there position much more seriously
Sometimes I just don’t get the reasoning behind some of these GMs decision , u draft a SF to be a benchwarmer to KD that’s like a waste of a pick and u only get 2
I think they eventually wanted to play him at the 4 because they didnt have Adams yet , Perkins was never gonna be apart of the long term plan , i think they wanted Russ , Lamb, KD, PJ3, Ibaka lineup but Perry never panned out and they got Adams a year later also

Similar skillset to Donte Green, tall forwards with no natural positions.

Stanley Robinson/ex UConn player. Passed a few years ago. He battled mental health and drug issues .
