  • 3 reasons Zion Williamson is not the next Lebron
    Let’s face it, the NBA Zion Williamson project will not go as they hoped. It’s no secret that the NBA needs a young star with Lebron James nearing the last handful of years as a top 5 basketball player and maybe even in the NBA at all, although if it's anyone ever in sports not named Tom Brady that could push the age boundaries and surpass his expected retirement date, it’s Lebron James. The NBA needed another 'Hooperstar' athlete as I like to call it, which are the few players in history that were a level above superstar and reach larger than sports status. Along came Zion Williamson at the perfect time. What gave him the potential to be the next 'hooperstar', was he did bring something we’ve never seen before, with his seemingly perfect mix of leaping ability and size. We’ve never seen a wing with that size equipped with that speed and quickness until Lebron and since. But Zion was even bigger, with a greater vertical. It’s been 4 years since the hype started, and for a large part, Zion’s play I meeting expectations. When he’s on the floor at least, but I’ve always had the feeling the NBA and Zion himself, knowingly or unknowingly dropped the ball on his chances of being next up and here we are nearing 10 games into the 21-22 season and we’ve yet to see Zion on the floor. What we have seen is a video circulating of an overweight Williamson, struggling to do defensive slides and barely able to breath.     Will Zion's weight and injury issues hinder him from becoming an all time great? He's amazing when he's on the floor, but his combination of body type and explosion has never proven to last very long in the league, and he's already having problems. Should his name even be mentioned in the same air as Lebron?

      ja morant is what every team wishes they can get in the draft...a leader and stud at the guard position who can carry your offense for a dozen years and above all else is a great kid who competes and thinks hes the best and wants to prove it because hes underrated..as great as zion is and would be in the late 00's early 2010's when the center position became weak but bigs were still used pre three ball era, in today's nba a small ball center without a back to the basket game or range who can not handle and needs to be set up can only go so far even at his peak..zion at 1 was a mistake with his body type looking at oden walton bowie and kemp...sorry new orleans....ja was the clear choice...zion has star big market syndrome..he legit feels he needs to leave to go all out and give it his all and try his best..i hate players like that..prove something first...then after 6-7 years you can leave if they do not surround you enough....you do not win much cause of injuries/circumstances of being in a small market limiting your players/gms/coaches....simple...zion does not want to lead..he is a follower sadly like ben simmons..all talk

    I don't think people really appreciate the other work that athletes need to do in orderr to maximize their potential. The workouts, the diets, the recovery, etc.

    See, I never compared Zion to Bron. I always compared him to Barkley concerning power and physique. At any rate, I do hope that people aren't painting his entire future based on the clip of him attempting to do drills at a heavier weight. We certainly don't know what the future holds for him. But one thing's for sure, the manner in which he explodes currently will definitely be detrimental in the future if he does not drop 50 from that 317 lb frame of his.

    Nobody is the next lebron. U can tell he doesn't have the build for longevity when he was in high school. He has a completely different body type than LeBron. Bron is lean, Zion is stalky and would be fat if he didnt workout. He's got the Charles Barkley body.

      You can't adjust your landing mechanics to deal with 300 lbs of force at that trajectory. The only thing he can do is not force the power dunking unless he really needs it. Highly doubtful he'll be that wise.

    I love Zion, I think he has a wonderful talent and he's a good guy, humble and likable. Howevery, I might be wrong but he doesn't strike me as someone who plays with a chip on his shoulder to be the one of the greatest ever - something his talent may allow him to be in the future. It seems to me that he just loves to play basketball and he's taking it as a game, but the pro environment is different, there's so much responsibility that comes into play. If he manages to fix this particular aspect of his demeanor, I think he'll be perfectly fine.

    Too soon to do a stunted growth vid imo. Zion not even past his 3rd year yet. When healthy, he's unstoppable. We all know that. He can still bounce back. Look at Lonzo Ball

      Lonzo just needed to fix his shooting mechanics. Zion has had a weight issue since high school/college and getting worse. He's still young but he's gaining more weight & getting injured more.

Just last season he was averaging 27pts on efficient scoring and STILL were concerns about his weight. NOW he's over 300pds! Yes, he can lose some weight & still be productive when he plays BUT now his rep is weight control & injury prone. Point is there's been concerns about his weight since high school & it's only gotten worse. Why are ppl supposed to think it'll get better??

      1.he gets off NOLA (he clearly doesn’t want to be there let’s not lie he is not gonna say it publicly)
      2.they start winning (it fixes everything)
      3.he gets less injured - being injured requires you to avoid practice physical activities etc which is a perfect time to get fat since you won’t be able to burn of the weight you gained
      And in his case the cycle goes
      Weight gain causes injury , injury causes weight gain which causes injury which causes weight gain which causes injury which causes weight gain and so on so he really needs to cut some weight off which I highly doubt he will since he said he would feel not as strong if he would cut weight which is probably an excuse we can look at charles barkley for that.

      @joseph ofori I don’t think the highlights do Larry justice. He carried a team to an undefeated season in college and back to back ncaa finals ( one championship). He could put the ball on the floor, had a good mid range jumper( game was different back then) and had a huge cultural impact ( when was the last time Converse was relevant in the shoe game?). Zion May have a higher vertical, but in terms of explosive power, quickness and strength, Larry was something else. Had to see it...

    I know this video discusses Zion and the issues that could potentially stop him being as good as he should be but one player that fits your definition of a hooperstar right now in the league is Giannis. He checks all the boxes that we all want Zion to achieve but like you said he went to the perfect environment to capitalize on his innate desire to be great and his physical tools.

    Prime example Bron Kareem and mJ Because Kareem had a 20 year career as a center because he kept the weight off his body look at Shaq had Shaq kept some of the weight off he would have had a longer more productive career especially them years he bounced from Phoenix Cleveland and Boston and with MJ when he did his last and final comeback he was 250 and his playing weight was as 212-220 he could still play but he was doing it in spurts and with Bron I thought he was going to be the greatest power forward ever because I thought he was going to gain weight as he got older but he kept the weight off body and that’s keeping the weight off his knees and ankles but Nike has to put something in place with his shoes like a carbon fiber spring plate to disperse the shock from going through his body

    The way he walks has ALWAYS concerned me. I have flat feet myself and I remember before I strengthened my muscles to hold up my arch all of my body weight would be on the inside of my inwardly bended knees. That is NOT a place you want to be. I don't know if Zion has flat feet which cause misalignment or if his knees are just bending inward, but either way that is bad for your joints as a normal person let alone a 300 pound man leaping and sprinting all day. If he can correct that and have a healthy lifestyle he might reach his potential.

    I don’t really watch sports anymore, but Z keeps popping up here and there after I watched a few Larry Bird and MJ documentaries. I truly hope he is able to shed pounds. He’s going to have to find the motivation and commitment to stick with a training plan, because the added weight is going to cause his joints to fail fast.

      That 2019 draft was rigged and it was too obvious lol. This was the first year NBA changed the lottery odds. Lakers who had 11th worst record got lucky and moved up to pick #4, that pick ended up being sent to NOLA in Anthony Davis trade (it's probably what made pelicans GM agree to trade AD to lakers since they knew NBA would rig lakers pick in the lottery). Pelicans had 6th worst record in lottery but they got lucky and landed the 1st overall pick (of course they got it since they just lost AD Lol). Then there's the tragic news about Kobe and his daughter and NBA once again gave lakers a free title in 2020 bubble to pay tribute to Kobe

    This is why I will always have a deep love for Lebron, JJ Watt, Tom Brady, and Kobe, the money to them (once they got the first contract), was always number 4 or 5 of the things that mattered most. That’s what so many poor and under achieving people don’t realize, you have to truly love what you do in order to be excellent at it. Money may or may not come, but your excellence is what is remembered. Jordon’s tomb stone will NOT say he was a billionaire. No one cares.     None of us know Zion personally so it's hard to speak I think son will decide he want to play basketball I mean if he never plays again son has made 50 million bucks so it's not really worth saying he is a bust. I believe that him being 21 years old he has time he was raised with both parents and they will remind him what the goal is I am certain of that. But he is going to have to leave the snacks alone and it's hard but he will be fine.

    I have a problem with people almost seeming happy Zoin gained weight. People suck and I just hope he can prove everyone of his doubters wrong
