Again, another great review. Because of you my first BFS rod purchase was an Ascent 7" UL for ultra light fishing. I also then purchased an Ascent 7" L for heavier baits. I'm about to buy another stick but this time a Kinetic 7' UL. Looking forward to see what the difference is between the Ascent and Kinetic and where I can use it. Thanks for posting! Not to debate, but would be awesome to hear your thoughts or even compare the rods yourself (since i don't own the Old18). Another BFS rod at the same price point with 10 guides would be RayFishing Argentum!
Well unfortunately they won’t let me stack discount kinetic is on sale and put your code in and says invalid cheaper on Amazon got the rod for 109 shipped
I support USA-made rods, everything I have is Gloomis and Dobyns. But Old 18 has the worst customer service. They either don't pick up or do not answer back in the email, I bought a bouyance spinning rodfor my dad and they sent me a bait cast version. I tried calling them and got no answers and tried emailing them, but no answer. In the end, I had to sell it on eBay for half the price. I've stucked to the tries and true company like Gloomis and Dobyns
Nice video, glad I came across this video I was looking for a BFS rod because I am getting into it. Which is better to start with a Light or Ultralight, I do the same type of fishing out of galv for reference.

I’m gonna have to contact old 18 about this lol I know any company is always striving to become better and find new ways to give show appreciation and give back to the customer/fan base with small tokens such as the box and the sleeve but what about those of us that are four suppressors deep ( over time of course, no ballers here lol) with one of them BFS and got two buoyancy rods out of the gate? It’s not that big a deal in the big picture but I still can’t help but to think “what the heck?”. Nothing to do with you at all either nick just venting lol keep pounding out the content 🤙
I had the same thought, Tony, and reached out to Old 18 to see whether I could get a “bonus box” for the full-priced Suppressor Ultra Light I bought several months ago. No dice. Unfortunately, seems like another example of companies trying to attract new customers/sales versus rewarding existing customers. Too bad - it’s a cool box! 👍🏼
Is the suppressor spinning still superior to the new kinetic spinning? I just got a new 2500 Vanford today and was going to pair it with my 3rd suppressor.
So I bought my Kinetic using your code, and on the butt of the rod, there was a Made in China Sticker… it’s a good rod, but a shame cause I thought I was supporting American workers.
Are you serious, wow? I just ordered one, if it comes with a china sticker i WILL send it back without hesitation. Going to check that first, when it arrives.

The Chinese BFS rods are a game changer. You can get really decent stuff for 1/20th of the price of Shimano overpriced and so-so quality BFS rods.
I'm a buy once cry once guy. Junk Chinese rods will be lucky to last a season. 👍
