I've removed these at home by applying a generous dab of salicylic acid gel (the kind used for acne) and topping it with a bandaid. Changed it daily for 2 or 3 days. The barnacle softened and began to disintegrate, and I was able to scrape the rest off with a thumbnail.

I have lots of these and after a large one on my face was zapped three years in a row (with liquid nitrogen) by my dermatologist with no result, I decided to try tea tree oil. Amazing! Took a couple of weeks with daily application but it is gone with no scarring and has not returned. I use tea tree oil on lesions from shingles as well and it works. I believe more research should be done with these traditional remedies--they've worked for centuries!

Hi Dr Dray! I have skin tags (acrochordons) everywhere but especially in the face around the eyes. Over the years, I have tried all the methods. The first time it was a surgeon who removed them from me and it was by laser. Every four years, I see a dermatologist and everyone has their favorite method. Of the methods I've tried, I hate cryotherapy. A feeling of pinch and burning that I don't want to experience in the future. I have to make an appointment but the waiting time is still too long. Here in Quebec, you have to be very...very...patient! No method has left any traces except once when I didn't choose a good dermatologist. Here we have a doctor's prescription and last time I paid $10 CDN for the liquid (nitrogen) but no cost to remove them. If you go to a private clinic, it's faster but you have to pay!

Just had over 200 of these frozen two days ago (used a canister and a half) and after was on fire! I wish I'd taken an Aleve beforehand. I'm wonderfully speckled and can't wait for them to fall off. They're all over my torso, neck and bra line and makes wearing a bra uncomfortable. I've had some really large ones removed two years ago and leaves a light spot behind. I hate that they grow back but I have noticed they seem to come back skin-toned rather than dark brown. Thanks for the great info, Doc.

Thank you so much for doing a video about Seborrheic Keratosis. I am 43 and I have hundreds of them. They started appearing around 30. I am fair skinned, so when they started appearing, I thought they were sun spots because they are on my arms, legs, shoulders, all the places exposed to sun when wearing a one piece swimsuit. I don't have any on my stomach, breasts, butt, or face. They are all flat, light tan to light brown splotches. I am so embarrassed of them, to the point where I don't want to wear shorts. I finally had a dermatologist look at them a month ago and found out they are SK's and not sun spots. She said they are not related to sun exposure, though I think in my case they are seeing as though they are not on any parts of my body that have always been covered. I also now know it's hereditary, and my mom and maternal grandmother also had a ton of SK's all over their arms and legs. She said a laser wouldn't help, that it would only help if they were sun spots. That super depressed me since there's really too many to try and freeze or cut them all off. You have given me hope that a laser is still an option!

It had gotten smaller so i may use it again. I told my dermatologist about it and he said that we don't really know much about this kind of lamp and suggested i not use it. I moved here in antipolo and started doing outdoor activities, gardening, and painting my exterior walls. I even had a few times of sunburn on my neck and my back. One time I was at cemetery I burnt on my back and neck it hurts. Than I burnt again on my neck when I was painting outside it stings and the skin were peeling off. If I go out even if I am wearing a shirt and a jacket it sting on my skin, the sun is too hot it burns. Than my back is getting too much sunlight from doing things outside than I notice I develop so much of this brown spots all over my back. I also develop on my face. This is very stressful to think about how I will get rid of this. Maybe I will try cautery.
The doctor in government the trainees are not good at diagnosing I can pretty much diagnose myself better all the time. I'll get another check up on private but I hope it is a good doctor coz many are not experts, they just graduate but they don't really know much and they are not experts. They usually misdiagnose me. Like when i had dengue and the doctor think it was allergies, the signs and symptoms is all over and she is still not getting it (fever, dots that turned into patches, ear ache, headache, body ache, swellling joints) she ask me so many stupid questions too. Or when I had a chikungunia they thought i had a fungus, they actually scrape my skin omg. I was already with fever and was sore all over with arthritic feeling all over due to mosquito bite, had so much swollen joints and my fever was so high. and yet they think it is fungus geez. My skin were peeling off like snake after I healed. The pain was terribly unbearable. I also had the watery blisters, and I can't walk properly. It just started with a simple rashes that spread on my neck and chest, It was so itchy and everything started all sorta things from taht stupid mosquito bite.
i hate stupid doctors. They keep misdiagnosing everything. It is hard to find experts here. Like this keratosis that doctor said it is verruca. How can this be a veruca wart when it doesn't even look the same. This is shiny and the shape and looks and color and the entire thing doesn't look wart. Plus it cannot possibly be spread by sunlight if it is wart. And I know for a fact that it cannot just happen all over my back for just being expose to sunlight. Warts don't grow from sunlight because it is a virus. And warts looks different, I check all pics online it doesn't look like it. And it doesn't spread anywhere else it just on back and face. If it is wart it will spread everywhere from bathing and scrubbing. I also develop so much moles on right arms. I am developing moles on my neck as well. Sunlight is really bad and we don't really need vit d, I mean my cousins never goes outdoor but they are not dying from not getting sunlight. I really need to stop outdoor activity, gardening and painting is not a good idea for somebody like me. I use to have fair skin now I am tan, and have so many spots. I feel so disgusted with myself bigtime. I think age spot is also related to aging. I am 46 so it is getting so bad. I am going to try to take gluta and lots of bit c and see if it helps me. ANd I need to hide from sunlight from now on. I will just let the plants die. My rapid growing mole on my neck is also in need of check up coz it is sometimes itching. I hope it is not cancerous, coz I'd rather die from heart attack than cancer coz cancer is very slow and expensive.
