    Thanks for another amazing video! Awesome miniatures and love how you use different techniques without a problem! One video i would love to watch from you, would be one that explains the different kinds of use and finish of the varnishes available. Mostly because many painters varnish their minis at the end, as they will be handled by other players on the board. Also a video explaining all about the oils and differences with acrylics will be nice if possible of course :) Thanks again.

    Insightful as usual; however, if you are just starting out with oils, varnishing will protect the paint from peeling off if you press too hard with your q-tips. I've ruined too many models without varnishing first. Remember: you are not Marco. He's a master at his craft, and us..well, we're still learning. Protect your hours of work with a varnish; it only takes 2 minutes and it'll save you much more than that if you mess up.

      Do it. Just wear nitril gloves and open a window when using that mineral spirit solvent. The pigment is sexier, and the oil content adds jewel like translucency.

    Hi Marco, I've started painting these guys similarly to your scheme (haven't got all the paints you used, so I used matching ones as far as I could). The thing I wondered about is the Space Wolves Grey you used on the feathers and some of the weapon handles. Maybe it is the lighting and/or my monitor, but it seems way more turquoise than my Space Wolves Grey (Contrast Paint). Have I been missing something? I thought your paint looked more like Akhelian Green. I know I'm bit late to the party, but I'd love to know.

    Hi, I have a question about Molotow paint and Liquitex Ink. Would you say its pretty much interchangeable?. I can't get Molotow paints in my local store, but Liquitex Inks yes. Can I use Liquitex Inks in the same way you use Molotow paints?. I never used Molotow.

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! No they are totally different products; Molotow are very resistant, fluid acrylics made for street art and are great as primers and for an heavy coverage. Inks have a different finish and are used for transparent effects and to boost the saturation of your acrylics with glazes and filters

    This is your best warcry band yet. Makes me want to buy the box and copy the scheme. One question, the primer looks more dark purple when it’s beings applied then more magenta when it’s dry. Is this the case or is your camera playing tricks?

    hello marco, after watching your videos i decided to invest in a cheap airbrush which for now is doing the job perfectly, i'm doing an army of pale golden custodes and i want to try your oil method, just bought the paints you recomended i have all the tools, my question is the following: should i oil everything in brown and then clean up with cuetips (since they are golden i figured brown would be better than black, maybe a hint of blue on top to had a coldness in the mix?), will the end result be still shiny? thank you so much for all your videos you are the best on painting in youtube i think !

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome! For golden custodes I would go with black with a bit of blue or green inside to push a bit more the contrast; to keep a really shiny finish is better to do precise and localised washes inside panel lines and details. It's a little more time consuming but the finish will be cleaner and more polished at the end

I did have a question the small metal cups you mix your paint in, do you have a link for them for those of us in the US. Hi Marco I was wondering can you get the same effect/work time with water mixable oils as regular oils?

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I did a lot of experiments with water based oil paints but I didn't get the same satisfying results; a key point of a lot of oil techniques is the low surface tension of their mediums and with water is difficult to achieve the same result...

  • @gianlucafiorentini1856
    @gianlucafiorentini1856 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What is the difference between the airbrushes inks used at the start and regular airbrush paints such as Vallejo?

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Inks are totally different products with different physical and chemical properties. Their pigments are finer with an extreme concentration in a perfectly stable solution. They tend to be transparent and they dry in a longer time so they blend on the model not only like overlapping layers but they actually mix with the previous layers 😉

    Great stuff! Glad to see you back Marco. :) I want to ask you a question about contrast paint, as I have just now started trying them out. In what situations do you use them instead of inks? I notice in this video you use them in very similar situations, and in a previous video you implied that they are basically the same thing. So why for example did you airbrush the base with contrast paint rather than an ink? Was is just because it happened to be the colour you wanted, or was there a property of the contrast paint that particularly suited the situation?

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a million 😊!
      Inks and contrast paints have similar properties because that are an high density suspension of pigments in a very fluid medium so the real difference is in their finish, matt for contrasts and glossy/satin for inks, and covering power; inks for the most part are very transparent or semi transparent, while the contrast line tends to cover much better (but never reaching the point of being opaque like the cerulean blue I used in the video or a white ink).
      I jump from one another depending on what I need in the moment!

    Brilliant again Marco! The mood/setting, airbrush, Contrast paints, oils, and final highlights gives such a quick and effective result which you show so clearly. Thank you.
    A question regarding the 'odorless thinner from the hardware store'. I assume this is mineral spirits? Also, I find the odorless thinner has a very long drying time, do you find that? And, how long do you wait before painting acrylic highlights over the oils?

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a million!!!
      I use White Spirit (I'm still not sure what's mineral spirit, but I suspect it's the same thing... In Italian is "Acquaragia" so you can imagine the problems with names 😅).
      The wash dries pretty quickly, white spirit is very volatile and I like to clean when the paint is easily playable so it just take the tame to wash the models.
      After the cleaning thanks to all the rubbing the surface is completely dry and I jump almost immediately to acrylics!

    So, I am here picking my head about the airbrush. I see the Iwata HP-BH has a 0.2 tip but It' too expensive. I could buy the CH and change the needle to 0.2 but my questions are: 1-in the video the airbrush is used to sketch out the volumes and all the fine detailing is done by hand, is then the 0.2 a necessity? 2-the HP-CH has a bigger pot, do you think it will impaid the vision too much working at this scale? 3-is the Iwata Neo gravity fed a good option at all?
    EDIT: the hp-ch I can find it at around £100-120.

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I always suggest to use an 0.2. The difference in precision and versatility with a 0.3 is massive.
      In this one I used it for basic stuff, but check what it can really do in my other speed painting videos. My favourite entry level airbrush is the Harder and Steenbeck Evolution: 0.2, extremely user friendly, easy to clean.
      HP-CH and Neo are still great machines, it's just a matter of taste (for example I don't like the big pot, you don't need it if you don't paint a lot of terrains, it's just extra surface to clean)

    Hi Marco, another great video! I've watched nearly all of them now! You spend a lot of time getting different textures, lights effects and finishes. Like in this video you say how the leather is naturally glossy with the ink you use. However, seeing as these are gaming pieces, how to you protect them from intense handling without sacrificing some of these effects? It seems like, for example, if you did a mat varnish at the end then some of this would be lost.

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM

      That's a possibility and in this case the problem solves by itself in few minutes, half an hour.
