@Rachel L. Gore Yes & no. Record labels have never existed to "help" artists achieve financial goals. It's always been about how they can turn a profit by investing in bands they believe give them the best shot to do this. Thus, only a small percentage of artists ever made their money from album sales since labels kept most of it to recoup the costs of distribution and promotion. Some bands even ended up dirt poor despite having massively successful singles, etc. Artists have always made most of their money from touring and live shows--unless the label took that too. With the internet, bands can remove the middle-man and self-promote. With TH-cam bands can release music and keep all the ad revenue. They can also sell their music on itunes and Amazon for a fraction of what labels would take from them. For the first time in history we're seeing bands find success completely without the need for a record label. So, with 163+ million views, I'm guessing Journey is still making money on this song because of this channel.
My mother passed away due to pancreatic cancer, Journey was her favorite band. she used to sing this all the time and it reminds me of her. Thankfully we got to see them live before she passed. RIP mom

Believe me dude, eventually, all these memories will make you better, stronger, smarter... It's funny, but losing someone does really help to improve your life. It makes you think about everything you lost and how you can improve for the future, so you never take things for granted ever again. The beginning is rough, thou, so hang in there, it might take a while, but one of the greatest feels you will get is to remember things with joy, and a smile about how good it felt, and how great things are now thanks to that one person. I was homeless for five months living out of my car. The worst part of the experience was being perpetually tired due to fatigue. I missed out on the love of my life. I lost my first child. My other children have disabilities. They were almost placed in care because the courts doubted our parenting skills. My wife cheated on me. But I continued to "don't stop believin". My first child watches over me. My children are doing well at school. I saved them from placement. I'm breaking up. I found again the love of my life, even if she's in a relationship. And I'm in the process of changing careers, to become an educator. I can't stop believing, this song is my whole life.

This song saved my dads life. Let me explain. My dad used to be a black hawk pilot in the military. He was tasked to carry some cargo at 3 in the morning after already working super hard the entirety before hand. Him and his pilot coworkers all were tired, they were going to fall asleep at any time if they even closed there eyes. Then my dad started singing the lyrics on the radio. Everyone else joined in. And for about a good 3 hours, they constantly sang this song to stay awake. My dad tells this story when its brought up, and its a great story from my dads time in the military. Thanks for reading.
@@johnnydavidson5343 He flew black hawks (Helicopters). I dont know what else to call him if there is another term for it. Unless your very specific and want me to call him a helicopter pilot.
I had a paper route when i was 12 and my dad kept tight tabs on my money. I wasn't allow to freely spend it and i pretty much did as i was told for fear of a licking. One day, right after i heard this on the radio i walked down to the local Sears with $7.99 of my paper route money and bought it. I left my bedroom window open so i could toss it in and thus return home empty handed just in case my parents were in the front room. I think my dad knew but he was cool enough to understand that a bit of teenage disobedience isn't a bad thing. I grew out of the record but cherish the memories of a time when people were still excited about new music.
My dad is visually impaired and lost his toes at a very young age. He thought he would live the rest of his life alone with no companion. Until he met my mom and she loved him for who he is. Married 36 years and now he has kids and grandkids. Don’t stop believing (:
I'm old. I remember when this song came out. It was just another decent song at the time. I NEVER could have imagined it would have such a resurgence after all these years. I never would have imagined that it would play every single day on the radio 40 years later and that our kids would even be listening to it. Journey was WAY ahead of their time with this one.
You are right who would have known that journey would make such an impact today 💘 Steve Perry and your not old just getting better just like 72 year old me

@@jpeg.600x2 The guy Tony, whatever happened there? Heard he was the strong silent type, like Gary Cooper- but, didn’t have the makings of a varsity athlete.
@@jpeg.600x2 this song played in the finale and the legendary scene of the sopranos. And Tony Soprano is the main character of the show. During the finale scene, this song was playing.
@@jpeg.600x2 it is definitely satisfying and things happened just as they should've happened. All the series have their own unique universe and potential. Got lose it after season 6 but in Brb, they did not waste character , story and it's universe. That's why we have this satisfying ending in brb. Same also happens in Sopranos. If you are over-sensitive and can't take joke, you may find some jokes offnsive (these days people get offended by everything). And the first episodes are boring as fuck. But you've watched brb, I think you can stick with us too :D. Also, do not stay this place for so long, I think people may spoil it. Sopranos fans are the most hilarous fans among all the fans. Once you've finish it and read the comments in youtube videos, you'll understand it.
My sister passed away in December and that was her favorite song of all times. Every time I listen to it, I can feel my ears pulsating, as if she's next to me singing it at the top of her lungs.
My mom also passed away on December. I dream about her all the time and there's music I don't listen to because it's just too painful right now, which tells me you are brave and will be fine. May God grant you consolation and have mercy on your sister!

Same bro!! I finished this great show for the first time just on last sunday and now I'm stuck with this song!! And as you said, legendary song, legendary David Chase and legendary James Gandolfini. A true masterpiece, unforgettable show. Long live to The Sopranos.
I just finished The Sopranos an hour ago. I'm so happy to have watched the whole show, but I'm sad that it's over. I love Tony so much, the whole time watching the show knowing that James Gandolfini is dead made me feel sad but I enjoyed his character even more.
When I heard this in college, I was not a city boy born raised in South Detroit. Yet this song resonated with me. I could imagine "....taking a midnight train going anywhere. Hanging out in a smokey room with a smell of wine and cheap perfume." "It goes on and on and on and on....". Don't Stop Believin' !!!
@@clocktime2367 cause black people don't listen to this music usually. Especially if you're from the city. So its to show how universal the song is. If i was a Chinese immigrant I would have said the same. If a 75 year old white guy in Mississippi started rapping a Tupac song to me i would be shocked for thur same reason. Different demographics have different tastes and cultures that's why me being a black man was relevant in my comment
Some songs touch ones life in ways unexplainable. This song is the history of me & my husband who died in Iraq in 2003. He was from Detroit, me from some no where southern town, both went to Las Vegas and had the remarkable fortune of bumping into each other.
RIP I'm from the metro area and all my family on my dad's side is from Detroit. My dad's brother was in the Michigan ANG and was killed in a motorcycle accident in '13
My music teacher in middle school was scary and demanding, but world class. When I was in 5th grade she told us to go home and listen to this song, we’re gonna be playing it for pep band. I’ll never forget going home and really listening to it for the first time that night. Music never made me feel like that before, and I’ve never stopped chasing it ever since. She died a few years ago, but I’ll never forget her. Can’t comprehend how greatly she impacted my life. Good teachers are an incredible blessing. So is this song.
This hits me hard because in my 6th grade year I had amazing teachers and they really worked hard to provide a healthy education for me and my classmates. In 7th grade however, my teaching experience greatly decreased in quality. I was very heartbroken but they actually ended up being amazing once I got about 2 months into 7th because they started having us do more soul healing and I realized that they were awesome all along and it was my view that they were not as good just because I had certain standards. Thanks for this song. We did song lyrics in 7th grade and they're meanings. I wish that we did this song. It is really beautiful.
That series ending scene of the Sopranos really brought his song back. I remember when it came out originally it was huge but that Sopranos ending just rocketed this to 11. I still remember it. Great song.
Sopranos introduced me to this song and now it's all about it. When I listen to it random people start entering the restaurant and Meadow starts struggling with the parallel parking.
It doesn’t matter how old you are or what genre of music you usually listen to...EVERYONE loves this song! It’s one of the best songs ever written or performed!!
Listening to this reminds me of my childhood.. The 80s was a unique and special decade in so many different ways. A transitional period between old and new world, almost like a sweet spot in human history. Society as a whole was benefiting from all the technological advancements across the board, but life was definitely not like it is today. There was no internet, online shopping, social media... You still had to go out and meet up with friends, hang out all day at the mall, go play video game arcades, go to the movie theater...It was much harder to be isolated. At the same time, at home we started having video game consoles, computers, gadgets, futuristic toys...
When my wife and I were dating I'd ride around listening to this on 8 track. That was 38 years ago. She died 7 weeks ago. We loved each other more than life. I can't decide if this song makes me happy or sad..
When I graduated highschool, 5 fellow students got together and performed this song for us, a very fitting graduation song IMO. The instrumentals were bang on, but you can't play this song to a crowd and not expect it to turn into karaoke with everyone screaming lyrics at the top of their lungs. Their lead guitarist was a friend of mine and damn could he play. Any spare moment for as long as I knew him was dedicated time to that guitar and he was definitely showing off, playing one section with the guitar behind his back and crushing the solo. It was not meant to be a perfect performance, but was it ever in its own way, a bitter-sweet memory I'll never forget. I fully expected to see him make a living off that guitar, but sadly he passed away just 3 years later. When a friend passes away, it sucks, but this one bothers me so much more because you just knew he was going places. To the best guitarist I've ever known personally, Nick, rest in peace my friend, hard to believe it's been 10 years.
I feel you my dad was probably the best bass player I ever heard but he always procrastinated and never did anything with it and he would play this song right on maybe better he passed this past September from covid and since I picked up the bass and taught myself to play you in his memory maybe you should try in his memory even if you don't do anything with it he will know and you and that's all that matters

I’ve been searching for this song and I have found it !! I’ve heard this song in so many movies growing up and never knew who made it. I’ve added it to my playlist, love this timeless music. We don’t get music like this anymore. Sn: I was born May of 95’ so this is way before my time but it hits the soul every time I hear it.
I used to work in a restaurant, and I remember one Sunday during the after church dinner rush when we were all on the verge of a mental breakdown because we were short on dishes, short on food, and short on patience, this song came on the radio and the entire back of the house just started belting it out at the top of our lungs. The entire dish crew, the grill line, the prep crew way in the back, the servers coming and going, and the managers. I'm talking nearly fifty people, most of us singing off key, half of the crew being smokers so they're just croaking out the lyrics, and then the one manager we all loved just cranks the radio up to full volume and starts disco dancing. Then the grill crew started dancing as they're cooking, us in the dish room start singing into dirty utensils, and the servers are head bobbing as they're making drinks and grabbing trays. That shift went from one of the worse to the most memorable I've ever worked, and I hope I never forget it.

One of the greatest songs of all time
This song saved my dads life.
Your dad is a legend
A Black Hawk pilot? Someone reads too many comic books (you or your dad) or someone has pulled your leg shamelessly (your dad). :(

Hi there, Good day to you and it's nice seeing you here.

@@mrfire136 Was it a sad or just satisfying ending? yearning to watch that show after brba

Sorry for your loss. Sounds like a life well lived with the love of your life.

What a GREAT story/memory! EPIC! 😃
