    As someone who used these saws 30 years ago, I can tell you that this is the same thing as the original. Chain brakes came as an option in the 80s and this saw predates them. I was running an 064 without a brake when I was 13 and logging in northern Michigan. I'd love to have the info on these because it appears to be taken ove r because it's old technology and the Germans won't make them any more. This would be perfect for milling! No brake required. That being said, chainsaw safety is one aspect of my profession and I have to say, do not ever run a saw with a chain that loose and it's especially dangerous to cut with the tip.

    There was a day when no one would buy "Japanese Junk" complete with the comments that everything was made out of US beer cans. Today... Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Sony, Hitachi, and several others are leading the quality pack. China has come a long way and today they are producing some high quality products at great prices. You can still buy cheap Chinese junk but I've seen some trashy "Made in USA" junk too. One of the best deals on pianos is the Pearl River. Made by license through Yamaha it has incredible sound and at a very attractive price. Our church bought one and has never regretted the decision. It's made in China.

    i am quite amused by all the responses here :D most of them either know shit about these saws and need to do their homework before commenting and the others are just bashing the chinese quality without actually knowing how good these saws are build (getting better each new release).
    so to sum up : it does not have a chain brake cause its a copy from the 70's, it is chinese but value for quality is top notch. ive milled some serious acacia wood with my 070 and it did not skip a beat. runs a 36" like its a 16". will it break ? eventually yes, parts are cheap and plentyfull.
    so 300 bucks (is what i payed for it) for this monster is dirt cheap and 6 months later and more then 50hrs on work time i can say it is still having insane compression and starts every 2nd or 3rd pull.
    there you go.

    I have one of these. It runs well. The clutch cover came cracked out of the box
    The kill switch is backwards. You should be able to kill it with just a push but you have to reach around and pull to stop the engine. I had to turn up the chain oiler a bit and after break in this thing is a beast for better or worse. There is no chain brake so don't get into a situation where you need one. In the current iteration the STIHL word does not appear on the product, just the 070. The 7/32 file is what fit my chain. Found out early on cause we dirted it. I don't plan on keeping mine because I can only imagine what it's going to be like getting parts for it. I just had a job to do and now it's done so yeah.

    If it is built like the original 070 then fine , I worked one in the late eighties to cut some huge Sitka spruce, Ok it wasn’t the most comfortable saw to work but it got the job done, I bought back then second hand for £ 100. They were called Stihl Contras, made in South America, tough old brutes , to buy the same size engined saw new today you would be looking at around £1500 ,so for an saw that’s only part time use it’s the the way to go.

    • @hotdognonesky3766
      @hotdognonesky3766 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 290 is fine for an occasional cut here and there, but it isn't a good saw. You'll notice it in comparison videos a lot because it's tuned down for the farmer and it makes the other saws it's being compared to look superior. It's built to go slow and just never die. Example, The ms 270 is the first in professional grade saws and it will flat out kill the 290. If you want a really good saw I suggest the ms 362C. This thing is the best all around saw ever made. Expensive, but worth every penny.

    Been looking into these clones for milling and the occasional big tree job. Very conflicting info about them. Yours seems to run quite nice and decently tuned from factory. Random, your yard reminds me of west Phoenix.....the wall, trees, and houses are identical.

    • @nospam3409
      @nospam3409 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is an older video and comment, but figured I would give my feedback anyway ;) My understanding is that the bigger Huztl saws have gotten a lot better in the last 2 or 3 years. My 064 seized up on me this spring so I ordered a G660 to take its place. $321 delivered. It came from US stock and arrived in 2 business days. There was about $50 worth of hardware that I needed to replace on it up front, including a high output oiler (running a 42" bar) and a dual port muffler cover. It's a screamer now. Heavy enough that I wouldn't want it to be my primary saw, but for the occasional big tree, it was a great fit for me. If I were milling big logs with a chainsaw mill, I'd definitely have a G070 for the job. The only question would be whether to change out the P&C to 66mm and retune to make it a 135cc 090.

    Is a old model the 070 AV 😊 Chinese are sometimes pretty good cloner especially with old good product. Just sad they not added chainbreak. This model was a pretty big engine 105cc with a low rpm max above 8200 or 8500 giving 4.8kw at 7000 but tons of good torque. For me need 2 things change the contact switch for a smaller one and customise a light stainless steel plate as front hand guard. And please tight a bit your chain 3 drive teeth could go out when you pull on it after tightening on 1st cut after it had expand you can let 5 drive teeth to save a bit the guide. Depend of use. And good idea to directly put Still chain and guide , Chinese do nice engine parts but their chains are bubble gum. PS oregon work even better for me. 😁

    I'm an Arborist and I own quite a few actual Stihl saws. I make a living with Stihl's awesome quality and power. (I'm still bent at Stihl for replacing the ms200t with the lesser ms201t). I'm interested in any saw if it runs decent and I can depend on it. I'm not interested in supporting knock-offs and fakes per say, though it if runs decent, what the heck. Lots of haters making comments below. I do not know what these Chinese copies cost, though if they run good and they're cheap, I may buy one and run the hell out of it for 3 or 6 months.

Bought one, set it up, ran in gently, then it blew. . . The real thing will run all day, as u know. Yes, i was annoyed about ms200 replacement, too. But my 200 still great. Instead of the new070's, have u considered/got/used, an 07? Very similiar to 070, weighs 18 lbs, 4 an half horse, lots of torque, early 60's Stihl made them. I have two, long an short bars on. Lovely things. Ok, vibes, LOUD, but never fail me. Drop it on concrete, no break. Y'health, Mark.

    Why did you sell this one? What parts could I replace oem that would make you consider keeping it. Last question do you think the 660 clone mills just as good as this one

    Very Nice! Did you happened to examine the chain closely? Stihl marks the links. I have seen them referred to as OEM in the built category and it would seem reasonable that Stihl produces chains and bars in China, it would be nice to hear if that silver box was warranted. Stihl still produces a few consumer saws there. Huztl is going to release a 070 kit in the near future and after seeing yours I look forward to getting my hands on one and put one of their Holzfforma Portable Chainsaw Mills on it and see what happens. You are in that position now. :-)

      I hope to make a milling video with the 070 and their mill by next week. I have a few 8' mesquite logs that I need to mill up. The only problem is I don't have a ripping chain for it.

      Grind some semi chisel to 10/50/-10 and go for it. I you don't have the setup for making chain and regrinding to mill profile, shoot me a message with your info and I'll fix you some up for cost.

      Experimentally, I've found full-skip semi-chisel, filed as for crosscutting, to work just as well as ripping chain for milling hardwood. KISS. And ... how can OP call a pirated copy a "stihl"? (No stihl fanboy here.)

      It's a new chain that is going to stretch in the first real cut. You should not see the drive links dangling regardless of the bar's nose. A loose chain is dangerous.

    Now thats one cool saw. Is this one made by craftop/newtop on alibaba? Im wondering if its a good idea to semi disassemble it and make sure everythings installed correctly but it seems good enough in the few videos you've uploaded. I also wonder if it would benefit from base gasket removal. What was the wait on shipping?

      I was trying to order one from craftop/newtop on alibaba and they want to charge 310 dollars for express shipping and 290 for the saw. Do you happen to have a link to the page you bought the saw from because half the price being shipping is hard to accept. And you mentioned 300 only.

    The 070's and bigger 090's were uncomparable to today's Stihl saws. Low revving and loads of low end torque. Nearly impossible to stall. We used to run a 6ft guidebar on an 090. Chain used to whistle. Could refill petrol and oil with it still running through a big log!

      KimballCody Am giving serious thought to ordering a Husqvarna 365/372 parts kit from hetzl.net get a whole parts kit to assemble a complete Husqvarna 365/372 powerhead for $140 or so without shipping. Sure the parts are all aftermarket, but a heck of a way to get that size saw for cheap. The Stihl 660/661 kits are about $185 without shipping.
