    You can really tell by his eyes that he has much sadness in him. From bullying and such. And on top of that go out and sing like this. Being brave and stand infront of the world like this. I admire this man.

      Crave88evarC If you look at the truly great singers, there is almost always something that drives them or some moment in their life that defines them. You have to have something to draw that emotion from.

    There is no question that Pavarotti is a legend and he sang this perfectly...more perfectly than Paul Potts..But why is it that listening to Paul Potts makes me tear up.? That didn't happened when I listened to Pavarottis version. . Did you look at the audiences' faces as well as the judges? The female judge was also tearing up as well as pierce. And Simon had that look on him. ...This goes to show that sometimes its not about singing it better. Sometimes its the heart you put into it. You can feel this mans passion for opera as well as his longing to sing...all those years of stifling his dreams and if you put all that into a song it will have an effect on the listeners that even the greatest of the great cannot match.

    • @janekerigan235
      @janekerigan235 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      RACCATTApalle91804 it is unfair to compare him to singers with classical training. I was talking about the heart in the performance and not the technical aspects of it. That heart is what made him win BGT. Also 'normal' audiences are not fond of opera so one has to sound well to impress. I heard many versions, this one isn't perfect but it has heart

    • @janekerigan235
      @janekerigan235 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      RACCATTApalle91804 I'm sure they have. They certainly have the money to be able to afford to see one. His success is not about getting recognized to be the best because there are certainly many opera singers who put in years and years to even be recognized.
      Have you ever had a dream? Something you truly want for a very very long time and yet couldn't follow that path for one reason or another? When life calls to sacrifice that dream because of something that takes precedence?
      You heard it. He said he was there to sing opera. He knows sacrifice as the rest of us because his is the years of putting on hold for whatever reasons his dreams to be able to just sing opera. He never had any training but im sure from how much he seemed to love it he would certainly do if he can go back in time and if he had the means. People sometimes put their dreams on hold for whatever reason then sometimes they realize it was a mistake until the very end. People who became opera singers or performers are very blessed because they are were they want to be. They are following on their dreams. Why do you think he joined? I think he did it in the beginning for that one moment only. To be able to sing that one time in front of the world so that he has at least that moment to remember. He did not anticipate what the public reception would be. There is certainly no guaranteed of a win and you put yourself in the scrutiny of 4 judges and the people. They voted for him. He won because he sang it well-from the heart. I could feel that heart . it really isn't fair to compare him to others. I'm happy he is following his dreams. It may or may not last but the point is hr finally did follow it. Also, if I were to sing a pop song why would people compare me to the original or to others who sang that song? I ought to be judge by how well the people like my rendition.//

      I so agree. It is the same with all art. Crude paintings and primitive wood. The humanity is all out there and we clutch it to our bosom, but the perfect - too perfect is cold to the touch.

      You and others tear up when listening to Paul Potts sing Nessun Dorma because music: whether opera, country and western, polka or jazz, is meant to move you. I am a degreed, professional classical musician who is quick to tell the "experts" that "good" music, "good" singing is really in the emotions of the hearer. In this, it is similar to art. What is beautiful or good is subjective to the emotions of the person having the experience. If Paul Pott's rendition moved people in any kind of way, then his performance was good: one that accomplished through music what music is meant to do..

    Doesn't this just make you wonder how many other people like Paul Potts there are out there working in stores and dreaming about doing what he did & also have the talent to do it? When you look at people like Paul, Susan Boyle, Jonathan Antoine & so on, it reminds you to keep dreaming & don't ever give up. VIVA LA VOCE!

    One of the lessons to be learned from Paul Potts is to prepare yourself so you are ready before opportunity knocks. Many people don't know this, but Paul spent a lot of time and money learning and training. He spent a large portion of his meager pay to take lessons including going to Italy to study. And even after all his preparations, he still doubted himself such that he tossed a coin to decide whether to enter BGT or not. Imagine if that coin had landed the other way and the world never hears of Paul Potts.

      There are several '...Got Talent" singers I go back to frequently... Susan Boyle, obviously, and Paul Potts, both from Gr. Britain. One out of Sweden, Freddy Amigo, one from Bulgaria, Svetlio Hristov (I think that's the correct spelling), and from the US Andrew De Leon, Charlotte & Jonathan and Brian Justin Crum . With the exception of Hristov, all share an 'unfriended' history or other such equally 'soul-killing' issues, so their success means a little extra to me. (This is just a little aside: There is one singer who, well, I have zero idea how I came across his video TH-cam performance as it wasn't on any of those shows, but just in case you might enjoy hearing him also, he's the Rag'n'Bone man singing "Human.")

      Now, you can discuss the input of the voice or if he could hold the breath in comparison to Pavarotti etc. but why critizise people who watch the vid and leave their opinion.
      And that's being said, even when it's unknown how Paul Pott could master this without the modern technique, and so it's hardly to say how much volume his voice really has, his voice itself and his input is not to criticise. (but I guess its fine :) ... So you could criticize almost every singer, because all are not perfect always, and this is just human and so its fine.

    To have an everyman sing a piece like Nessun Dorma with such virtuosity and sadness in his countenance makes it hit home even more than Pavarotti. It's like a guy who's been bullied all his life through no fault of his own letting loose with an emotional ballad from the depths of his soul. I get even more emotional watching Paul's rendition than Pavarotti's, and that's saying something.

      Paul Potts is okay in the realm of opera and there is a reason why you don’t hear about him today. I mean he studied opera at a musical college and didn’t made it after that.
      I’m really really happy for him that he made something out of his great talent but There is nobody even close to Pavarotti

      I didn't study opera at any college@@psirus89. I took private lessons as and when I could afford them. I used quiz show winnings and savings to take short courses in Italy, without much belief that it would lead to anything at all. Following an operation to remove a large tumour, I continued, but an accident when someone carelessly knocked me off my bicycle a few days after returning to work meant that I couldn't continue with my singing for 4 years before the audition.

    What you see here is a triumph of the human soul. Look at that calm, yet unconfident and unsure man. He has throughout his life been beaten down, subjugated, and constantly defeated by outside forces. He has internalized this and consequently confined himself in a prison of fear. Now he is free. He has liberated himself, torn off the shackles of doubt and fear and become one with his inner passions and desires. He is at one with the world he has created, a world dominated by his beautiful voice, and he is now free. The oppressive forces that once tortured and controlled him are now gone; he is free.

      There is absolutely nothing wrong with the way Paul Potts looks - he is Welsh & there are lots of men in Wales who look like that (Cymru am byth!). The Welsh have a different genetic make-up to the English (I think that the Welsh are Romano Celts; Celtic, plus a component from the Roman occupation of Britain. In contrast, the English are Anglo-Saxon; with a German and Danish (and for the North of England with a Viking) heritage and who never settled much in Wales). I always thought that schools in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland should do more in history to teach everybody about all of us, not just about one of the countries that make up The United Kingdom!

    • @PhysalisFranchetti
      @PhysalisFranchetti 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      He's Celtic, and you must also have Celtic blood in you with a name like Gallagher. Do you consider yourself our society's perfect model? and while you answer, please define the word perfect for me......because 'perfect' is a subjective appraisal that depends on the viewer.......

    • @matthewgallagher823

      PhysalisFranchetti Yeah i originate from Ireland. No i am not societys perfect model never said i was. Want an example of societys perfect model? Go to Victoria secret models. I am a realist and although i see the flaws in our society i do not delude my self to it

    • @PhysalisFranchetti
      @PhysalisFranchetti 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matthew Gallagher
      Society has a very distorted view of what a perfect model is. The images that can be seen on the web, show women of around about size 0, which, in my view, is a disgraceful role-model to hold up as 'perfect'.
      If you read my original post carefully, you will see that I said "There is absolutely nothing wrong with the way Paul Potts looks". I stand by my response to what the original poster said.

    This video is such a mark in history. The condescending way and pitiful eyes of the audience towards his looks, just before his sings is what was hindering this man talent from growing.
    After years of lone preparation and gathering confidence he is able to explode in this audition like a supernova. He outshines everyone in that room, becoming bigger than everyone who had pity on him before. When he says "Ma Il mio misterio e' chiuso in me" it's like his voice is ripping that room apart and blowing away all those judging eyes.
    When I saw this 10 years ago I was a fat slob much like him, and because of his help I've managed to completely change my life, blowing away the people who had belittle me in the past.

    I can tell you why this performance has a lot more likes and views than Pavarotti's. Pavarotti is a trained professional. Everybody can google any video of him or any recording, and it will be splendid. As per usual. However, this guy shows that there're absolutely no borders or boundaries for a true talent. It shows people, the whole world that your dream can come true and if you're truly gifted and follow your own path, you will shine. And people will kneel before your talent and recognize you.

      It's also more current and relevant as it's from 2007 (After TH-cam became popular) and not from the last millenium. I'm actually surprised that the pavarotti video has almost 30 million views, there are lots of brilliant old songs with barely any views at all while Justin Bieber songs trumps with 1 billion views. Views are generated 10% through content and 90% through publicity, a clip from the 90's rarely gets any publicity 20 years later.

His life would be changed forever--unless he did not sing well. But he presented AND he did so in a humble fashion. We all have those kind of dreams but rarely act on them. By the way he won the competition so millions support him whether he is a tenor...soprano, alto or whatever...(Just words)

      He has sung in the finest opera houses in the WORLD. There are three, '...Got Talent," singers that I know of that have gone on to global successes. Susan Boyle, one of the 'boy' singing groups, that initially sung independent of each other but Cowell made them unite and collectively they are enormous (it's midnight my time, and my mind isn't...all there at the moment so I cannot recall their stage name) and, or course Potts. There may be more, but at the nonce, I can only think of those three.
