It will be interesting to see what you do with them. I can't remember if I told you or not. I checked at the local Stihl dealers here. No 500i's in stock and didn't know when they would get any.
@@Oli4vn yeah I figured that much... I think its the coil I have seen on 064 or 066... I will definitely show how I do the tanks... someone told me about it in the comments on over 9g ny videos not long ago
You should do a video on how you restore the plastics. I’ve got a 372xp that is oil stained and ugly looking and I’m not exactly how to go about cleaning it up.
Thanks man... looked for an 084 for YEARS and never found one that was worth the ridiculous asking price... now lately I can't talk to anyone without buying or trading for one lol
There is a good video from someone that showed me how to do it and they use hair bleach... I know it sounds weird but they do it to old Nintendo cases or something
Hey John I have a couple of 066 recoil covers that need some repairs & a fresh coat of power coating & I was wondering if you can work you magic on them seeing how nice you make your saw builds.
Damn good score on those 84's man, especially the cylinders. Something about NOS (new old stock) only channel i have to clarify thats what I meant bye NOS. Haha Would love to know how to bring the plastics back to white if you're willing to make a video on it.

Appreciate it my man.. its kinda strange that some flywheels have 2 slots and some have one... I haven't done s lot with the 084s so its a learn-as-I-go deal
Hey brother I’m seeking help with an 084 carb issue! Was wondering if you might be able to lend advice? Starts fine idles fine the at WOT bogs hard rolling thick smoke. I was told that they have a governor inside the carb that might be the culprit. Any input on how to maybe plug that? Or if you can think of what might be causing this. Also I replaced all of the guts of the carb with a kit already thanks.
You can email me with any questions at johnscustomsaws@gmail.com and I can try to steer you in the right direction... im not taking on any new customers tho sorry my man... I would be able to give you the name of a legit builder depending on what you are looking for
Not lighter colors but I have done some green/red/blue from orange... I bet bleaching them would work... then dye them a lighter color... I haven't actually tried it tho

I thought it was a scam so I only ordered one top end to see if it was legit and I can't believe it especially for the price 🤯 I get so many connections doing these saws and sometimes it really pays to have friends
Its a sad thing the production time for this saw was so narrow. A rare thing for Stihl, but it is what it is. One of the reasons I got an 881, I know it's going to be a long production due to the push for electric (and electric can't really put up the power of a big cc saw), so parts galore in the decades to come for the current production of these saws! One of the reasons I got the 500i, every logger here in Romania is running one, and from what I can see its the same in US and Canada. That means parts in the future.
044 mag is legendary, any Stihl with 0 first is coveted 026, 036, 046, 066. 084. Were and still are the best Stihl saws ever made! Next came the 0 last. 440 460, 660, 880. @@TrapperScottyAlaskan i pretty much agree with everything you said man... the newer saws need to take notes from the "0" series IMHO... they will not be around years from now and sought after like these 084s... these days its the " throw away" mentality that is evident in the newer saws... not that they can't be made to be rippers but they dont hold up like the older models
The 084s have different port timing and shape... bigger intake manifold and "lunged" or "tonsil" intake... different bolt pattern and case pattern... they also have versions that have high limit or non limited coil stock... imho they are a way better saw... 880s were the biggest let down saw that i ran... well stock at least... the 084 is just about the best saw to build a race saw from especially because the crank/rod are bullet proof... they have a wishbone style connecting rod is the best way I can describe itm.. I might do a comparison video if I have time
Hell yeah that is awesome dude, man I love that green and black . What is your plans for the 84's ? We have tons of huge elm perfect for those power houses 😎
Im going to be getting into the race saws and these 084s are the saw to build it seems... 2 are already spoken for and the other 2 will be sold after I see how these do this year... im probably going to get ny and handed to me but I gotta start somewhere lol
Are there different saw cylinders that have the same bolt pattern of others that can be swapped from one saw to the next or are they all specific to the individual saw "class"?... IDK if that's the right terminology... example: 460 vs 660. Are there any that swap?
Stroke is different from 046 to 066 so it wont work. So for instance a 046 big bore will work work on a 044 because the stroke is the sameand bolt pattern.
@@kylecromp319 I understand about the different strokes... in this case it's approximately .150" difference. (4mm)... I'm not too worried about the short heights as I can always machine a spacer... I guess the more Important factor would be port locations. But, I'm more or less looking for other saws that have the same cylinder bolt pattern... that, and I'd like to swap different cranks Into different cases and basically have a mutt of a saw that simply rips. I once built a choptop wagoneer that had a built AMC 360, a built TH350 tranny, a Ford NP205 t-case, Full floater 14bolt rear (GM)... and a Ford Dana60 kingpin front... I couldn't kill that thing. Lol
What are you trying to swap? Cause theres not much if any engine wise. 064 and 066 are the same platforms. Your main issue is crank stroke. And 066 will bolt up to an 044 and an 046. idk about crAnks in different cases yet tbh. Out of my current reach atm.
My man I have total confidence that you could pull off any cylinder swap or Frankenstein build you put your mind to... ive seen some wild stuff from you and I think it would be awesome to see it done.. I have looked into doing a 064 top end on a 460 I think it was and I realize it would take major machining and even swapping the crank but I never really went any further than the idea in my head... I want to do wild builds like that full time eventually
Many reasons my man... they are the most sought after race saw because of the crank/connecting rod.... i will probably do a video explaining after a bit here... lot to type out honestly

The coil looks similar to the cdic redlight and non-redlight coil from the 064 and 066, just without the connection for the led. Thus limited
