#Sony #PS5
Now we have to pay the “Concord tax” on every Sony product
That is why the pro has no diskdrive and stand 😂
Lmao, get educated…
Say, as an example, a layman wants to buy a PC instead. The 4070TI ($700 give or take)... Where will they install it into since you also need cpu, psu, ram, monitor etc etc... PC's are not as cheap as people think and very expensive if you want the higher end, especially if they want to future proof. Well over $1500+
I AM NOT buying the Ps5 Pro, but if you think objectively, for the price, it ain’t too bad all things considering.
Good thing I never owned a Sony product and now have even more reason not to.
Not if you don’t buy anything from Sony…
@@GerardhuttThere was no disc drive and stand for the PS5 slim before Concord failure.
Sony could have given a way 1 million PS5s for what they spent on Concord. Unlike Concord, those 1 million PS5s would have actually generated revenue for them.
LoL true!
the WORST company in gaming
Wow. Must be the biggest financial failure for a single game in the history of gaming?
You're asking as if it isn't. Of course it is. It's freaking historical and it already was before at 200 Million.
Get w0ke, go broke.
We're not even talking gaming, this is one of the biggest financial failures in all of media.
@mattholt5063 say what you mean.. mean what you say. There is no need for a rhetorical question, with a little research..🤦♂️
@@Noname15514man please. The game was just wack. Stop looking for cheap wins 😂
Not to mention the fact that they refunded everyone. Plus the cost of the studio. That might take this loss into the $600-800M category.
That doesn't make any sense.
They didn't lose more money than they gained when the couple thousand people bought the game...
They refunded money that they were given.
PS5 alone netted Sony around 10 Billion bucks. Hardly even dented their reserves
@@Zinkolo5% of a console generation is still crazy.
That's dumb, that game didn't make enough money
@@dannyboots they sold the console at a loss mind you
Imagine if they invested 400 million in Kill zone and made a cod competitor
Casuals didn't care about Kill Zone, nor Resistance, or Sodom. The only game that have any chance of competing with COD is Battlefield.
Or remaster the entire series into current gen with online play, easy money.
@@StarTraffic-z1oso they don’t care about killzone but they care about concord? I’m sure killzone would atleast have made them a profit and not put them in a 400 mil plus hole lol. I think people fail to realize how devastating a failure like that is to Sony. They don’t have money like MS to take losses like this. If you thought they were precautionary with new IP’s just wait. We will be lucky if we even see a new IP. Another failure like that could put the PS brand down for good.
Imagine if they invested this much money on a new Play Station handheld.
But they would have to make a w0ke in order to make a new Killzone that no one would play.
Hermen Hulst should definitely not keep his CEO position, this is an unforgivable f up
Hard to say as he wasn't CEO when concord was green-lit but he was still head of PlayStation studios so he should have seen this coming
Dude must be prostituted to recoup the losses.
@@skullcrusher_1he literally championed this game. It was revealed he actually believed in Concord succeeding.
Hulst is also the one responsible for Sony's Japanese studios being shut down.
@@skullcrusher_1 He was picked as CEO because he bought Firewalk and talked big about it
Sony really needs to do a better job of listening to what the fans want. We've been asking for a bloodborne remaster for years, so what do we get? Everything but that. We've been telling them we want another portable PlayStation, so what do we get? PlayStation portal, a system that can only work with your PS5 and an internet connection. We've been telling them what they do best is narrative single-player games, so what do we get? An announcement that they are focusing on live service games moving forward.
Sony is the equivalent of a wide open basketball player shooting air balls. They could absolutely crush it if they would just do what their customers tell them to do.
That $400 million could’ve went to the dozens of IPs they forgot about
Spiderman 2 300M+ and Concord 400M+, meanwhile journalists want to talk about Xbox all day. 🤦🏾♂️
400 million you could've made a Concord amusement park

Exactly!
How the fk did they manage to spend it all?
Are they all driving Ferraris or what?

Pretty sure a bunch of people who should be fired will get to keep their jobs and a bunch of devs who were forced to work on this travesty will be getting the boot

It is unbelievable. Has to be money laundering
100% agreed.
I think we need to keep Hanlon’s Razor in mind. “Don’t attribute malice to that which can be easily explained by stupidity.” CEOs being out of touch and following trends years late is sadly common.
Or... it's just not true.
bankruptcy speedrun
400m....Tells me: 1)We are paying WAY to much for Sony products if they can afford to throw that much money away 2)Their stock holders should be absolutely furious. There should be an internal investigation of exactly who authorized this, where exactly the money went, and who specifically should be fired for this failure 3)Any of us who still buy their product (me being not one of them anymore), will be paying extra on everything to make up for this nonsense.
I assume Concord already had a lot of content ready to be released as season updates and events. So it must have been a far larger game than what was revealed at launch.
No just bad
I really really believe that Concord was THE game that was planned to showcase the PS5 Pro, so I agree it had way more depth and features yet to be revealed. It just failed and so we saw only PS4/PS5 games of old. With this $400b cost I lean into that belief even more
I remember when Concord had a bad fur day 🤔
😂
Conker even sold double of Concord i think. And was a good game. It was terribly advertised and released on the wrong console, unlike Concord.
It can't just me that every time I see this game all I think is Dollar Store Guardians of the Galaxy?
Guardian's of the Galaxy vol 3.
Budget: $250 million
Concord
Budget: $400 million
I think generally Concord had more dollars lol
400m gone and all Sony had to do was make a new Killzone
Or Twisted Metal, Spyro, Crash/CTR, Metal Gear, Tom Raider, GoW... See any franchise referenced in Astro Bot.
Technically Sony doesn't own the rights to Spyro and Crash anymore as they are a part of Activision.
But they would have to make it w0ke. W0keness is the main reason why Concord failed.
THAT’S WHAT I WAS ABOUT TO SAY!!!!
Or a new Resistance, Motorstorm, Sly Cooper, Infamous, a MAG reboot, or at least a remake of any of what we mentioned
Or to be more original, maybe invest in a new singleplayer ip
@@Noname15514 Nope.
You can say whatever you want about tech, outsourcing, interest rates, the economy, working from home, etc. This business model of insane video game budgets in the hundreds of millions is NOT sustainable. Especially when everyone complains about loot boxes, gambling mechanics, season passes, and microtransactions that would maintain these business models.
Nintendo is the only company making games to both make art and make a profit.
Capcom have a pretty good balance. Within Sony there are teams, like Asobi, Sucker Punch etc. Hopefully these examples will survive as the others fail.
FromSoftware too.
And I know the monetization is not everyone's cup of tea, but HYV with Genshin Impact is also a good example.
Every Pokémon game in the last 10 years have been a copy and paste scam. Nintendo is just as bad and if you can’t see that you’re a sheep.
@@cd8815 LOL Capcom is invested in w0keness just like Sony which is the main reason why Concord failed. I take it your head is buried in the sand to avoid the news about the censored Dead Rising Demake.
Says the quiet part out loud, w0keness is a huge problem in gaming. You're not being original by avoiding the obvious, you're just being afraid.
Look, at some point you stop feeling bad about Concord and just have to laugh at the absurd hubris. This is that time.
I remember when concord was an airplane..🤔
R.I.P.
No difference.
Better times
There is one other thing this game and the airplane share, besides their name, which is how much money they both lost.
EDIT: I meant to say, they both lost a ton of money.
Or a grape
There's definitely something wrong here. There's no way an overwatch clone costed this much money for development. Like others have said, this has to be a money laundering scheme.
Source is a guy who has made stuff up before. Why is everyone so gullible to believe anyone who says a negative story about something they don't like? You don't need fake reasons to think Concord was stupid lol.
Sony can inflate the loss to use as a tax writeoff to offset profits
They could have spent that money to make 4 smaller games. They could have revived some older dormant IP.
Who the fuck at Sony thinks Concord is their Star Wars when they have had Destiny for years and Bungie wants to expand into film??? Still waiting for ANY movement there
They have reached the range of budget of the two most expensive Star Wars sequel movies.

The walmart near me is still selling the physical disc I laughed when I saw it last night. It was full price.
From what I saw if you try to pay for it at the register the system won't let you complete the transaction
I would pick up a couple copies. That game is gonna be a legendary collectors item In the future and worth a lot more than 60 bucks. I sold my base PS4 with a copy of PT on it for 2k a couple years back on eBay. Used the money to buy a PS5 and upgrade my PC lol

Zipper Interactive and Japan Studio died so Concord could flop. I hate Sony so much 😢
If you had not shown me any gameplay for this, just the cutscenes and the rest of the marketing, my mind would have never gone to this being a hero shooter.
I will firmly maintain that Firewalk wasn't originally looking to make such a game. Too much work has gone into the cutscenes.
Either they pivoted in order to convince Sony to invest in them or Sony made them pivot.
Of course there's always the possibility that the stupidity was there from the jump.
That honestly tracks. It always seemed off to me that a PVP multiplayer game would be so cutscene heavy.
No wonder sony has been acting strange lately 😂😂
Concord is a high quality game…technically. The problem is that no one was looking for a game like Concord. It’s just corny and not attractive to play. That has nothing to do with quality standard. Cyberpunk was a dumpster fire, it was successful because people were drooling to play what they wanted it to actually be.

The media is not telling the full story in this case. They outsourced this to thousands of devs to get the game to a playable state.
Single biggest flop in gaming history, holy shit lol
im guessing a large chunk of that budget went into the devs lifestyle, the game doesnt look like a quarter of that budget and they lack marketing. rdr2 had around 500mil, let that sink in.
What’s that great line from The Office? This is like if Michael Phelps came out of retirement, did a belly flop and drowned.

Sony of Japan needs to close Sony of America and re-open PlayStation Japan Studios. Sony has gone down hill ever since they closed their Japanese studios and focused on just buying titles. They have become to Americanized
💯 Agreed. I've been saying that for years.
Sony of America is a cesspool and it looks like they are currently in full control.
I haven’t bought a PlayStation since PS3 exactly for this reason. Sony completely lost its identity when it abandoned Japan.
I agree on the Americanized part, but they don't buy titles.
At least not more than they make titles with their western studios.

If $400 million was just the production budget, then they probably spent at least $150 million on advertising.
And probably got 300 million of ESG money.
It really doesn't feel like they spent $150M on advertising. Like, I don't doubt you, you might be right given how awful the spending on this game already was, but Concord had one of the most anemic marketing campaigns I've ever seen
It honestly makes sense when you consider that they even paid Amazon for it to have it’s own dedicated episode in the “Secret Level” tv show
One of the biggest L’s of all time for Sony
It’s not one of the
It’s THE biggest one
I think it is the biggest L in the entire history of the gaming industry as whole. 400 million on a game that got shut down in under two weeks!
toxic positivity = either you agree or you get the boot. Yay, boss! Yay! We love you and your ideas
I wonder what failure will be big enough to produce actual change? Single player games are "too risky" because of massive budgets, but most live service games are also incredibly expensive to make and don't last a year.
A modestly budgeted game that gets done in a couple of years means that it is less likely to be make or break for the studio. Plus, you can get more than one game per console generation.
Imagine telling starving and impoverished families in Africa how they spent almost 1/2 a billion dollars on a video game that was erased a week and a 1/2 later.
Who ever green lit this should be fired
the biggest failure was the hacks and data leaks. Which happen every year with Sony now, It's kind of sad i expect Sony to be hacked. People hack Microsoft all the time. No major data leaks wtf is happening in sony's security department.
I would say maybe Sony will learn from this, but I highly doubt it. They will have to fail a little more to learn.
@@jeremypowell7211 Oh they will learn from it… All the wrong lessons as usual
Sony did this backwards. They should of done a show or movie first and then the game.
I doubt the show or movie would have done that well, the game is trying to appeal to an ultra politically correct crowd, which is the same crowd many shows and movies that are currently failing tried appealing to as well.
These characters are just not appealing to people, the game would have probably done better if it had 0 world building or plot and you played as generic robots in a shooting arena instead.
@@tubguinace maybe but atleast more people would have known about the charecters
Concord was made in an echo chamber, that sums up the whole story.
That number doesn't make much sense considering the almost no marketing even compared to astro bot, also if it really was that bad they would've probably been people fired already especially if it's actually an expensive studio to run.
This would actually make a great documentary someday if we could ever get some footage on these devs.
Dev's have been con'd and corded. We're not hearing from them
Firewalk has been cooked... RIP...
When the market is saturated it's probably better to go for innovation so you might create the next big thing.
Sony being out of touch/delusional enough to think that Concord could be their Star Wars doesn’t surprise me. After all we’re talking about the same company who was gaslit by social media into rereleasing Morbius where it flopped again😂. What shocks me is how it’s even possible for an Overwatch/Guardians of the Galaxy bootleg to eat up EIGHT YEARS and FOUR HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS! Even the lower 100-200 mil seemed outrages for what little the game offered. Let’s hope when Sony inevitably gets hacked again we’ll get a spreadsheet documenting exactly how much time/money went to each aspect of development.
Concord would need to sell 10 million copies only to make the money back.
400,000,000$
What a joke 😂😂😂😂
Most expensive joke
Actually worse loss than Redfall. Unbelievable.
400 million?! You're telling me that Sony spent $400m on Concord?! That's more than an average, high budget Hollywood movie nowadays.
The Force Awakens had a budget of $450m, but at least it made back half of it in the opening week!
I don't doubt that it costed them a fortune but I'm taking that with a grain of salt. I think the figures are probably more complicated than they appear.
I think so too. There has to be more to this story that we don't know.
Cocaine is one hell of a drug.
But wasn't it just last week that the $250 million estimate was "unbelievable"? Tonight's show is going to be awesome 😎!
Ah……so the budget was far more than just over a hundred million
Holy shit
I said 300 million with the studio, and everyone called me a moron...I was way off it was closer to 600 million with the studio and all the controllers they made and threw in the garbage
Its game dev 101. dont create a multiplayer game without having a single player game beforehand establishing your IP.
At this point. I wont be surprise to see Concord Remaster for ps5 pro.
Such is sony's standard these days.
Mistakes were made but it is like they were committed to make more mistakes to deliver the game. Sony took a wrong turn called live service and now they are trying to recover.
That's an Atari E.T. level of ouch.
Plz don't compare a successful game like E.T. created by one person which sold over a million copies to Concord which sold "25k" if that and had a measly $400 Million Budget 😂
Fire Herman yikes 😳
I think people who said toxic positivity is weird in an environment... Those are people who have never worked in a big company with really aggressive people. Not in a level of disagreement, but in a level of constant threats to speak to your "manager"/"boss"/"Product Manager"/"scrum master". It really sukcs and you're in fear of speak out about anything. You know why? Because you have to bring money for your family
At work you're either a lemming or a lemming looking in from the outside
That’s an incredible number if true. How can you be that blind? It’s absolutely insane
People need to remember too that they produced a years worth of vignettes for this game and those aren't cheap!! If they are the same quality of the trailers that is costly. Plus the developers lived in one of the most expensive cities in the US.
Huge W for the developers, each one scams Sony for 1 million dollars by just saying Yes.
So somehow this game almost caused as much as cyberpunk
The animated story sequences, cringy as the ones we saw are, were actually VERY well done from an animation standpoint and were likely exorbitantly expensive to produce. Now remember that the original roadmap was to release one of these EVERY WEEK for the foreseeable future. This almost certainly means there are dozens and dozens of these six to low seven figure cost animation vignettes already completed, paid for, and sitting in Sony servers somewhere never to see the light of day.

That $400M development costs makes sense when you consider 8 years of dev time and having to pay bills for the whole studio that entire time.
The studio was only founded 6 years ago and had fewer than 100 devs 3 years ago when Sony signed on to publish.
@@faustianblur1798 You are forgetting the thousands of devs with outsourcing. The credits are over an hour long.
I call bs. Moriarty is wrong half the time.
400M US is a higher budget than the one Forbidden West and The Last of Us 2 got and on the same ballpark as GoW Ragnarok and Spider-Man 2 had.
It's also a hero shooter from a no-name studio, with no recognizable actors or voice acting talent and zero branding.
There is just no way to justify 200M, let alone 400M for that.
GoW Ragnarök was not that high; Spider-Man 2 was 100 million less. Moriarty made this up. He is not a journalist. Clickbait, and Spawn Wave feeds into it. Kind of annoying how clickbaity Spawn Wave is becoming, making me want to unsubscribe. I don't get how anyone believes this game spent 8 years in development or cost $400 million when we know the development timeline (maybe 4 years, about 100 devs).
absolute utter trash, incompetent developers. this team most definitely just stall development over and over again for more money while doing nothing.
sony bet on them and got royally screwed.
Now we know where all the games are... They didn't get made. Sony could have had 20, 20-million-dollar games for the PS5. Instead they made Concord.
Superheros are already such an exhausting concept now
MAYBE if this game had included a really good offline single player campaign in addition to the multiplayer mode it could’ve done better. Now we’ll never know lol
I was really interested in hearing that large yellow robot thing crack some dry humor. I've never seen a robot do that ever in fiction
I would have been more inclined if it did. It's what kept me buying COD past MW3.
Maybe better put still not nearly well enough to break even. 400 million is way too much money to break even with.
Helldivers 2 costs around 100mil to make.
Let that sink in.
It's just a lie by Sony to win the sympathy of its customers and justify the price of the PlayStation 5 Pro. It is impossible for a company to give up an investment of $400 million without any recovery or rescue attempt. It is very impossible for a company to give up a console that it spent $400 on just like that.
400,000,000 : 1972 : 8 : 12 = $2113 per professional per month. Makes sense just in wages alone.
Yes, quite literally unbelievable. We really should approach these kind of reports with a little more skepticism!
I'm not buying anything from Sony until the PS6. I'm not footing the bill for Sony's stupid $400 million mistake.
Contrary to popular belief, there is a world OUTSIDE of the internet. People seem to have this inherent belief that whatever is said or seen on socials is automatically treated as gospel.

I don't plan on buying much of anything from Sony or Microsoft again. Right now I'm playing a lot of retro - GBC stuff. I'm very frustrated with the current state of gaming. I have the most hope for Nintendo but hate a lot of their business tactics. Right now there are 4 games I'm looking forward to and 3 of those are on Nintendo and one is Playstation ( Infinity Nikki - because it's different but we will see if it's worth it.).
If you're not buying anything from Sony, then move to pc. Sony is getting that share from everything on the platform. Your choice.
Sony really shitting the bed this generation
One thing is forsure. The people working on this game were raking in the dough throughout its development cause even if its not 400 million, say much closer to 300 million, that money still had to go somewhere and in software, it goes to humans.
The $400M explains why this didn't wind up on the chopping block with the others. They were hoping they were wrong (with $400M is not something you throw away without giving it a try). The root of the problem is games are taking too long to make. They were a good idea when they were planned. Not so good after a long time. Phil Spencer has indicated this a problem. He indicated they need to do a better job in pivoting.
I still can’t believe Concord got worst than it already was
If other outlets can corroborate what Colin's source said to him, then I don't think Hermen Hulst should be the one championing future live-service games.
I remember when shu got demoted for funding death stranding. They better keep the same energy for herman
This seems like the video game equivalent of the Chinese real estate crisis: a lot of unmerited speculation leading to higher costs, ambitious developers trying to squeeze as much profit out of their project with attractive facades and minimum quality materials… and possible money laundering 😅
What is funnier is Sony bought this knowing it already spent 200m with a bad alpha and gave it another 200m to finish the game. JIm Ryan knew this will be bad so he retired recently.
All we wanted was Killzone and a new SOCOM game
The 400M does include the 200M paid for the acuistion of the studio though
Imagine if they invested $400 in literally anything else, my god
I don't think Concord has a budget of 400M. No other game has been that high, except for Cyberpunk. But part of that cost could be related to buying the studio
