    Just a note of caution here. By putting in a large 30A fuse, just remember that the wires going to the cigarette lighter socket may be to small to handle the extra amps.
    The car maker put in the rated fuse for a reason. If you are not careful you may cause a under the dashboard fire or melt some wires in the wire bundle which you do not want to experience. I have a 2001 Chevy Malibu that I just recently bought a new cigarette lighter for. It is also blowing fuses (20A fuse). In summary, not all cigarette lighters are the same ( amperage draw ect. ). I'm still looking for a replacement cigarette lighter.

      nmsidewinder Well, whenever I need to air up a tire. I have one of those tire pumps that plug into the cigarette lighter. It pops when it pulls to many amps. It would be nice for it NOT to do that. But mostly, I just use the cigarette lighter plug, and hook up my solar panel to it. So that way, my car battery will never die.

    • @haroldpritchett8909
      @haroldpritchett8909 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might consider running a separate set of wires to the cigarette lighter (larger gage size) to handle the extra amps. Here is some data that might help. Wire size for carrying (29.7 amps) 30A is number 8 (.1285 inch diameter) wire. The air compressor you have should state how many amps it draws. I've had to replace electrical feed wires on a boat I use to have to run accessories with (Marine Band radio... ect ).

    • @haroldpritchett8909
      @haroldpritchett8909 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ** correction: Number 7 wire (.1443 inch) carries 29.7 amps.

      So you're basically saying to run a by-pass from the battery to the lighter plug. I've done that too on my RV cigarette lighter plug. It works, but it's such a pain.

    You have to buy a new cigarette lighter and look in the description to make sure it has the correct voltage that matches your vehicle. If you keep doing this with a lighter that will pop your fuse, you will start melting your entire fuse box bro. Then you will have to buy an entire fuse box. Never plug anything into your lighter fuse until you make sure the volts match or are less than the fuse's threshold. A 25 fuse is regular for mine but if you put the wrong lighter or adapter into it, you will pop that fuse because it requires too much electricity. I learned this by experimenting with making a vape mod. If you get an outlet with no electric regulator in it and put a piece of led from a pencil from the negative and positive on each end, it will blow your house fuse as soon as you plug it in, pop the led and make a loud pop. Too much electricity runs through something that can handle it and it will over do it, then pop the fuse that gives the power. You have to be careful with electricity. It's very very particular when it comes to things like the amount of electricity. Ask me, and I think that it would be a huge movement if we could get a fuse and battery that could regulate tire pressure by installing auto air pressure regulators. That would be really cool. Idk if it been done but if you have the money, copyright this idea and do it. You'll be rich.

    All now it blows the fuses. Phone chargers don't blow the fuses. We exchanged the machine for a new one still blows fuses. Im at a loss for what it could be. I've changed the sockets still blows em.

      You may not have to do all of that. If your car is the same model and year like mine was, your fuse box should be on the side, and just replace the fuse and don't swap-out any cig liters. If it doesn't, well I'm sorry for the ordeal you'll have to go through. I made that video, to help answer some questions out there.

    I am guessing that I am having a similar problem with my girlfriends 2002 Pontiac Grand Am. I can charge my phone, no problem but when I plug in a 400w power inverter and try to charge my DJI phantom battery through the 100w battery charger it blows the fuse within minutes. I have not tried increasing the fuse power, for reasons mentioned in the comments below. I believe it is a 10 amp fuse that is plugged in there. Maybe that is the wrong fuse anyway. Seems awful low amp fuse. ( Number 34 driver side under hood).

      Well apparently, the cig lighter from your dodge is not compatible with s10 lighters. You're best bet is to go to old junckyard places that s10's are at, and find replacement lighters that might match, as for other gm vehicles, idk.

    • @EdBoonSucks
      @EdBoonSucks  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, like I said, in the video, a 30 amp is the most it will pull. But, your best bet will be to either get a different charger or a different phone. It pays to read the fine print on the back of the phone box that it came in. It may tell you how much juice it takes to charge.

    • @kosidlomarcin
      @kosidlomarcin 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the thing... main lighter never worked, but that wasn't a problem for me as anything plugged there would be on a gearstick's way. Instead of that I was using a socket from a passenger side. And it was working for nice couple of months until it stopped... blown fuse. I changed it and tried to plug lighters to check how it works. surprisingly main lighter started working, but after couple of seconds a new fuse died.

    • @kosidlomarcin
      @kosidlomarcin 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      EdBoonSucks
      Changed it again and decided to use only a socket from a passenger side... I figured that main a socket is a problem of a short circuit and as long I leave it alone, nothing else would happened. I plugged my ipod-to-radio transmitter (btw i'm using ipod nano, so it takes barely any juice) and it was charging it just fine. however next day i noticed that LED is off and it was fuse again. Any ideas? I guess that could be a bad socket.

    • @EdBoonSucks
      @EdBoonSucks  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm... You say yours is a 02 grand prix right? I don't know much about them, but there maybe a better way. You can bypass all of that BS, and install a direct line from your battery on the (+) side and the ground wire to the backside of cigarette lighter. All you'll have to do is go from the battery, then on the inside, you pullout the cigarette socket, there you'll see the tail-end is and that's were you'll put the (+) wire in at. Once done, you'll also see where the ground wire is at. (Make sure that's in tact). And if you like just for a safety caution, you can get one of those fuse slots that holds up to a 50 amp built into the wire.

      EdBoonSucks thanks for your reply...again. i'm not familiar with american cars at all. originally i'm from europe and recently moved to americas(mexico for a moment). to be honest i never had to deal with stuff like that before. i've got my prand prix as i heard tones of a good stuff about the GM 3800 series 2 engine. got mine pontiac from states and had engine swap there as a result of some strange noises(mechanic's advice). in mexico i found out that new engine wasn't well fitted. result was broken crankshaft and piston. so i payed tones of money to a mechanic to fix it... plus maintenance. happened that "mechanic" was an idiot... i mean this c*** sucker made more damage on the car than i could ever think about. starting with braking my lights and finishing on leaving engine leaking oil. i could get rid of my car... it's not new or in the best condition, but to be honest i really enjoy it. and as i won't give it to another "mechanic" as long i don't have to i decided to learn on my own and fix as much as possible by myself. ill try your advice, maybe some new idea would come up. take care

      +EdBoonSucks lol right. I was thinking the same thing. the hell does graduating high school got to do with troubleshooting a blown fuse in a vehicle lol. but have you tried to unhook the lighter and disassemble it to check for rust or corrosion. that's what was causing my fuse to constantly blow. even when I wasn't using the port. I took it apart and it was built up with corrosion so I took a wire brush and cleaner and got the rust and corrosion off. reassembled and bam. fixed

    • @russellleek8605
      @russellleek8605 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +EdBoonSucks and the reason it popped with another lighter is because the coils in it and the wires hooked to the assembly. there's more power going to the other lighter cause of more coils in the lighter than the smaller one. even not pushing it in it still conducts the electricity through the coil and outer metal casing. hope that's not to confusing lll

    • @EdBoonSucks
      @EdBoonSucks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Russell Leek Good assessment. I never thought of that. But yeah, if the coils don't lineup, then that could cause it to short out.

      So people, give this guy as many likes as you can.

    • @EdBoonSucks
      @EdBoonSucks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Russell Leek No, there's no rust in it. Also it's kinda odd because, as I've stated here in this clip, the lighter was from a Toyota pickup that works on a Pontiac sunfire.
      But none of this really matters anyway. I sold it 6 months ago.
