Fax, the 1st time I played Sonic 3 & Knuckles, I didn't enjoy it that much compared to Sonic 2 which I fell in love instantly, Idk why Sonic 3 is like that
The long levels kinda were a big turn-off for me in Sonic 3 & Knuckles

i’m kinda the same tbh, started with Sonic 2 and wasn’t huge on 3K in comparison. i think the art style had a lot to do with it, with 3K having more natural environments and less weird checkerboard kind of stuff that i loved in the first 2 games.
however fast forward to probably 50 playthroughs later and yeah i’m pretty sure this one is my favorite now
