  • With this video we will share a direct comparison between the LINE 6 POD GO versus the Mooer GE 250. First of all we will share a demo song hearing the two units in action, then we will compare the features and technical characteristics of the two units with a very detailed comparison chart, then we will ear more sounds, also comparing the two units with real tube amps, and finally I will give you my 2 cents. At the very end of this video, I will live you with the demo song played with real amps, real cab and real mics. I hope you enjoy and please don’t forget to subscribe to my channel, hit the notification bell and live a thumb up, it would be of a great help!!!!

    Overall, I think each unit is very good. I chose to go with the pod go mainly because I feel there will be more users who will be sharing more of their own presets for free or for small purchase. Also, I feel the line 6 service and commitment will last longer and be more consistent than Mooer. I’ve owned products from both companies having been very happy with both.

      Same. And let's not kid ourselves, this isn't an opinion but truth from experience. Also, Line6 has a much better app for creating presets. Overall, everything just feels smoother with the Pod Go. In the end, you can create Mooer 250/300 every tone on the Pod Go but same cannot be said for the Mooers.

    Nice. I bought the Pod Go just last week, and I am loving every minute of it. Of course, its not the greatest thing since sliced bread, but, for me, just jamming at home or with my friends, it does everything I want, and tons more that I didn't know I wanted. Very happy with it.

    I would still go with the Mooer for one crucial reason: XLR outputs with a global EQ. If you want to hook directly into the PA, this is the best option.

    Leo, this helped me to go to MOOER GE 250. I mainly use the typical amp, cab, delay, and reverb, so it's enough for me, and size is an issue for carrying in gigbag along with the guitar while commuting. Since audience don't really care the difference if any, GE it is... and XLR help out in certain stage with no DI Box provided.

    Dear Leo, congrats on your content and contribution. I believe you are the very first one comparing this units. We were all waiting after last Namm. In my humble opinion, the greatest deal on buying on of them is amp and cab simulation, for this reason I believe the Pod go, would be my choice. Still pricing in Brazil is an issue. Keep up with this formula buddy.

    Hi Leo! I just subscribed to your channel today. I love your content and the demeanor with which you present. I appreciate the care you put into these comparisons. I am about to purchase one of these, but I am still undecided (I'm leaning POD GO). For me the top three factors are:
    1. Quality of sounds.
    2. Ease of use.
    3. Portability (size and weight).
    And they both seem to perform well in these. I'll do a little more research and decide this week.

    I already bought the Pod Go. I am very happy with it. The stock patches are really just a starting point. It took me very little time to create 4 banks. One bank for my tele, another for my dual humbucker Kiesel and one for my acoustic and one for my bass. GE250 is more flexible with use of looper and drums. In the Pod Go you have to give up an effect to use the looper, and it doesn't allow you to change patches while looping unless each patch is customized with the looper effect set up. GE250 looper is simple to use and allows for use with all patches.

      If you go with the Mooer you are givong up numerous amps, cabs and effects. You are also giving up a better preset editing program. You also loose 2 usb which means you loose 2 midi controllable devices. Pod Go has sold much more so there are also many more custom presets tones available to download for free or small fee. Not to mention you can create snapshots with Pod Go so way more for yiur dollar.

      not perfect though. Mooer ge250 doesn´t let you erase only the recent overdub... If record one layer over the first one and want to delete only the last one, forget it. You have to erase everything you recorded.

    beautiful music n playing.loved the solo..i think as mooer 250 having the original rig capturing capability is much more authentic to the actual tone unlike the stock amps n cabs which is more important as many of us cant afford the luxuary of buying 2-4 amp heads n 4/12 cabs n effects so it'll be pretty useful..on the other hand pod go's stock amps cabs are much better than the mooers n some other youtuber's video says the tone is 99%similar as helix with more tonal options..so its really a hard choice to choose from...aboveall really great content my friend.cheers

      It can all be done on the edit program on pc, can change or more accurately assign colour to fx or pedal and any pedal/fx to any footswitch all on pod go edit , there's also a way to "jailbreak" the pod go so you can gain a couple slots by deleting code fir wah and volume but not the eq and then re inserting the updated code to user slot. Roughly speaking. I've just got my pod go so I'm going to wiat and get used to the operation if the pedal first before I consider imdoing something I don't know if it will be a detriment to the overall os

    I preferred the originals amps, however if I had to choose one modeler, it would be the PodGo. I felt it was closest to the original. The mooer modelers has a distinct sound among all of them, that I just don’t care for. I was really interested in getting a mooer, but every demo I watch, they all sound the same, which tells me I just do not prefer their modeling. It’s all relative, and subjective, but all the mooer modelers are just too thin for my liking. Great demo.

    Aaaaargh, this is so difficult! Ok, I want to like the Mooer more, because it's smaller, not black, meaning it should be easier to read in the dark. Also, being left-handed, getting a guitar in any other colour than black is very rare, and it used to be impossible, so we all learn to hate black. I also love the midi option, because then I could use my Behringer FCB1010 foot controller. But the mono instead of a stereo fx loop is a real bummer, and I'm not sure I like the Mooer reverb sounds.
    Much more importantly though, Line6 has a huge community of guitarists like Chris Buck and Rhett Shull selling profiles for Line6 products, and they both have incredibly good taste, so I don't want to miss out on that. But on the other hand, the Mooer can do profiling.
    Like I said: Aaaaargh!

    Great Channel !! I think that legacy actually means something here as well. Line 6 is without a doubt the leader when it comes to the modelling world dating back to the original POD bean and they pretty much have it figured out. I think the Mooer is a decent product
    although I have heard some issues with support and the software architecture. Everybody is in the game now and everybody puts out a pretty decent product but the Line 6 product and Boss products seem to be head of the pack at this price point.

    There is another detail worth comparing: in a live situation you would use presets, assigned to 2-3 switches. When you change presets, in most processors there is a small pause of the sound. This also happens on both Mooer and Line6. However, I understood from other videos that on the Pod Go you could avoid that by using the 'snapshot' option. Can anyone comment on that?

    The points you mentioned in this video are the ones why I chose the mooer ge250 over the POD GO. Yes, the POD go is a nice product but I wanted something smaller, lighter, and sort of "fully" featured. Plus the capability of profiling amps and downloading them from mooer studio can not be denied, I am still waiting for mooer to release GE Labs for Windows thou -_-. Regarding amp sounds... well, is subjective, I already have a set of IR's that I use so I do not even think I will use the ones in the mooer and as you said, the differences are very small when using the same IR. Yes, the POD go has more amps but being able to profile or get the one you really want or need is also great. I just wish the mooer had more fx's thou, especially the particle verb from line 6 :(

    Your videos are excellent and I am envious of your playing ability. I might not understand what the Mooer profiles are, but are they not similar to presets on the Pod Go which can be shared and downloaded from the Line6 Custom Tone website and also bought from the Line6 market place?

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andrew, thank you for the compliments, that really means a lot to me! Presets and profiles are different things. A profile is a "snapshot" of a specific sound of an amp, captured using specific algorithms. For instance in this video I'm explaining the profiling procedure of the Kemper: th-cam.com/video/nwfTSkk-d70/w-d-xo.html
      A preset is just a set of setting of a specific amp and effects.
      Thank you for your question and I hope this could be of some help

    You can really tell today's brands do great efforts to replicate the real version of the amp, yet they always fail somehow to deliver good sounding cab/mic sims/IR's. From what I've heard until now, it is but Hotone Ampero, imo, that sounds convincing without using 3th party IR's. Also I'm still torn on whether I should get a Marshall DSL1HR which is cheaper than both these units, or something digital. You make them all sound so good Leo, great video again!

    Very nice playing sir. Having listened on good flat response speakers, and I know youtube compresses the sound, well... I would go with the Mooer for one simple obvious reason, and that is... it actually sounded 99 percent closer to the real amps. Same tone and drive. The line 6 wasn't close. Tone didn't match. Not as lifelike to my ears. Good video though, thank you.

    Thank you for sharing your testing and personal thoughts. I appreciate both setups, but neither is a must for me. My Xtone Pro with an external effects pedal even exceeds my limited needs. Your reviews allow me to curb my GAS (gear acquisition syndrome), as your testing highlights enough to bring context to anyone.

Example: an overdrive sound on pedal 1, a clean sound with delay on pedal 2, and a chorus sound on pedal 3. Basically use as independent effects pedals. OR do you need to page up and down to get to your favorite sound? Thank You Andy

    GE250 has a dynamic range of 100db where PodGo has 112db. This looks huge on paper however i can't hear it in the recording. I am wondering what's your take on this.

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steven, this is a pretty good point. Actually, first of all I would say that these are data coming from the builders, so we are not completely sure that they are right and comparable. Nevertheless the difference is pretty important (as you also noticed) and tells us that the Audio Interface of the POD GO is better. Now, in order to hear that difference you need to have a pretty good equipment (monitors, the converters of your audio interface, the room in which you hear the music, etc...) and the difference can also be lost in hyper distorted tones or in ultra effected tones...Summarizing, assuming that the info provided by the builders are ok, you can hear them if you have a pretty good audio equipment, you make the right test, etc.
      Finally, if you can not hear the difference, you are free to make your choice judging other parameters.
      Thank you for your question!

    Great comparison, Leo! As always, a very useful vid.
    I agree with you: it´s surprising how similar they sound with the same external IR, even the real JCM800. I also find the Pod Go quite different form the real thing when using its internal IR... such an improvment to use the external one!
    Please, could you tell us which IR are you loading? Maybe it´s worth buying it!
    Great work, man. Thank you.

    And Pod Go vs GE 300?
    Also curious about the older GE stuff like the black and red truck.

    Seems like apples to oranges comparison to me. While I prefer the Pod 8 foot switches in the POD, the XLR output and small size will make lean more towards the Mooer. However, I feel like need both Apples and Oranges in my diet!

    Real amps with real speakers are the best. It is true that the IR makes it sound close. But unfortunately not great IMO. That lead from messa was super. The units were lacking there. All are usable sounds. We just cant compare it with real deal;).

    How you connected effects during comparison with real amp? Did you use FRFR? Or just plug them into amp? Or maybe we could hear direct output vs microphoned jcm800?

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I have two strategies: if I want the possibility to listen to the sound of the amp alone, without effects, then I record just the amp without fx and I add them in the Digital Audio Workstation. If I don't need to hear the amp alone, I record directly the sound of the pedalboard with effects
      Thank you for your question!

    Hi when recorded in with Pod Go' s USB audio interface ( I hear it can do 24/96) , does the stereo reverbs/delays get recorded in two tracks L and R or one single track ?

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, two separate tracks or one stereo track, according to how you set up your DAW.
      Thank you for your question.

    This is an amazing channel for comparisons. I think I like the mooer a little more because when I listened with a DAC it sounds like the best audio separation, eq, and frequency range coverage. The Line 6 did sound a little closer to the real amp, though. These are both amazing pieces of gear compared to what was available 5 years ago.

    Hi Leo, can you tell me, if any of the FX units from your HUGE round-up comparison test can:
    (1) Let you use a specific effect, like DELAY twice in the same patch?
    (2) Let you change the order of the FX in the chain?
    I wonder if the Pod Go can do at least 2 delays in one patch for the extra money...

    • @Pharesm
      @Pharesm 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the NUX on pre-order on a hunch, before seeing your huge round-up comparison test.
      I think the unit has a very clean sound and the FX I tried out so far - they were all decent or better to my ears.
      But what bothers me are two things: (1) I can't change the order of the FX! (2) I can't put the same FX twice, like dual delay = impossible :((. A lesser wevil is the ridiculously cumbersome scheme to pick letters to name your presets :p (the letters don't even loop around from Z-> back to ->A
