This is a funny statement, because I heard that one of the Beatles was asked what they would have sounded in the 70s if not split up and he said "just like ELO".

Jeff Lynne's problem is that he was both ahead of and behind his time. He was inspired by rock and roll which was already gone 20 years prior and was NOT experiencing a nostalgic comeback at the time. What he produced, however ingenious, was difficult to categorize and ultimately perceived as sugary pop by the music world and baby boomers. I always liked great sounding music and have never marched to the same beat as others of my generation. Consistent with that, I always loved ELO and couldn't wait for the next album.
Wonderful song. 👏👏👏 I said this comment in "Last Train to London" video. To me, Jeff Lynn was like a father figure in those years, lates '70s 🙂 Jeff in the music and Christopher Reeve (Superman) in movies were the closest thing to my father. I know that for many people it may seem ridiculous, but I was just a chilean child 🇨🇱 with an absent father. That is why today, in the year 2023, at the age of 52, I still love and respect to Jeff. For me, ELO's songs are a balm for the soul. 💪
12 and jeez this band truly is amazing and underrated, especially The Intros and Endings (Turn to Stone, 10538 Overture, Tightrope, Fire on High,) so many good starters and such great Endings (Shangri-La One Summer Dream, Etc.) great ballads too.
I'm not surprised. Because both Jeff and Roy were part of the Traveling Wildburys in the 80s. Additionally, Roy influenced the Beatles, who in turn influenced Electric Light Orchestra.
Corria el año 79. Mientras viajaba con mi camión hacia el sur de Argentina. X ruta 3. Y escuché x primera vez este tema. Y hoy lo sigo escuchando. Grande la ELO.
Richard Tandy died this week. He was in his 70s. RIP. Great musician who played on all the ELO albums and with Jeff's solo stuff.Featured on this track.
Who’s still listening in 2021?! I’m 19 and I believe that the Discovery Album is one of the most underrated albums - not only of ELO’s but of the 70s/ era of disco. Jeff Lynne literally said, “it’s the final year of the 70s and disco won’t be here forever, therefore, we shall go out with a disco album - ALL THE WAY.”
This song has such Roy Orbison vibes, especially the verse "Dark is the road you wander..."(2:14). Not surprising that Jeff and Roy would find harmony in The Travelling Wilburys.
You probably know about this, but check out Endless Lies on the Secret Messages double album. The chorus is a direct imitation/tribute to Roy Orbison's vocals by Jeff.
My all time favourite song ever!……….. I remember this song being released back in 79 when I was back in high school, and when I very first heard it on the radio i thought - WOW!. 44 years later its still my fav’😁. Luv it!🧡
1979....a cold Autumn/early Winter night. Just recently at this time, had been dumped by my then g/f. I was totally emotionally lost, felt cold inside. My world was just barren. Listening to the classic song, here in the quietness, I can still feel those emotions....a bitter-sweet memory. Just after my ex had revealed she'd been dating another guy for the past three weeks still resonating in my ears, standing at the bus stop, damp leaves on the ground, cold feet and hands....remembering happier times when she used to be at the bus stop with me, going to the movies etc....I hardly remember the trip home. I still love this song - which is the 'sweet' part of the bitter-sweet memories.
How could you make such an amazing art song back in 1979 when I was 19 ??? Unbelievable how incredible this music is to this date and way beyond our lifespan will be !!! How can we thank you Jeff ???

I remember the petition that was set up to bring them home, I didn't get to sign it though, I would have signed it but it was all on paper, no internet in those days.
I suppose it's Don Arden's fault he didn't have them change clothes for this group of videos? I have NO complaint with Jeff's leather pants... I think they're a size or two too large...Could've fit better, I mean tighter.
I saw Jeff in concert in June on his current Alone in the Universe tour and he still has those long, lean legs of his but not in leather, unfortunately but still very sexy even at 68!

ELO was one of the very few bands that us 80s kids liked from the 70s. It was that good. Their music is still good. It helped to set the standard for good 80s music.
Main stream music was quite dull or even so childish in some 'hard rock' bands, so ELO's songwriting and Lynne's great voice made the difference. They were different. Til the end.
what a beautiful piece of music, I have loved this song for what seems forever... thank you for the memories ELO, you are the tapestry to my teenage years.
I first listened to this song when I was seven or eight years old. A friend of the family who we helped move house had it on a reel-to-reel. The poor tape had a lot of rewinds that day. Before I watched this video, I would never have guessed there was a CS 80 involved.
ELO had some really great music! I remember doing a mural of their spaceship when I was in high school and I think it turned out great! Now I could create an incredible vector design that would look awesome on the side of a building! Their music was uplifting and incredibly innovative for its time! Loved the keyboards. Not sure why 2K gave this song a thumbs down though. Obviously no taste in music. Thank you for all the memories of the best time in history- The 80s!!!
I was a senior in high school (1978-79) when this song came out and it's been one of my favorites ever since. Crisp, clean, uncomplicated and unpretentious but a very accomplished and polished musical composition overall. A perfect blend of lyrics, melody, instruments and vocals in the best ELO style (by the way you can tell music videos were just coming out). There's also some use of electronics but in typical ELO fashion not the way that synthesizers would be used in New Wave, Punk and Post-Punk compositions from the 1980's onward.
That voice!!! Simply Magic!!!!

"THE ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA IS WONDERFUL"...!!
Jeff Lynne has been 45 years old since 1970 and still is to this day.
One of the best songs of this Group!!!
My favourite ELO song - and that is saying something. Jeff Lynne is a musical genius - and such a modest one too.
I first listened to this song when I was seven or eight years old. A friend of the family who we helped move house had it on a reel-to-reel. The poor tape had a lot of rewinds that day.
Before I watched this video, I would never have guessed there was a CS 80 involved.
ELO is all the music I need
So grateful to been exposed to this amazing music . They r a masterpiece.
Whaddaya mean "some really great music"?!?!? C'mon, it was all great😉
@optimus maximux your bang on jeff lynne is a master of music 😁🏌🎶🎶
I just love this group ELO and Jeff has the greatest voice.
It's the first time I'm listening to this song, but still it's like I've known it for ages
Yes, I know what you mean. I had never heard this song before either, but it is another ELO classic!
@@armandocardona4478 Oh, I love its video.
I love it, first time hearing it, too.
One of those ageless pieces.
Much like myself, Lol.
Seriously, A Beautiful song
I hope you’ve been able to enjoy the entire Discovery album now. Some real treasures here, and even a noble stab at disco!
