      Yup. Metal music is for music intellectuals. Piece of gilded spoiled garbag like the kardashians grew up out casting kids who listened to metal and treated them like the "uncool" group. Now they want to adopt it and try and make it theirs? Fuck that! Years of tears and devotion true fans have shown these artists and we've praised them like Gods. They have gotten us through our darkest times and kept us from becoming unraveled mentally. What this music means to true fans is beyond these posers comprehension. We wore these shirts with pride and respect. Those who don't should have it torn off their back in public. Young people wearing them because it reminds them of their parents growing up and want to delve into it authentically is ok in my books. But having zero respect for it and sporting it anyways nah. Kim Kardashian having the audacity putting her ugly mug over a band logo. What a cunt. Fuck that dumb husband of hers too. Goddamn ostrich brained puppet.

    In school I was bullied and treated like a poser for wearing rock shirts. I had 3 GN'R shirts and a Led Zeppelin shirt. They thought I was trying to be fashionable and I just eventually told them I loved their music and with regards to fashion I didn't wish to conform to their socially normal bs. I became a bit of an outsider because of that.
    I'm 21 now and I own 5 GN'R shirts, 2 Zeppelin shirts, a Pink Floyd shirt, and a Hendrix shirt. Any time I wear them now I occasionally have someone nodding with approval at me.
    I got complimented once by a kid behind the counter at KFC for wearing one of the Zeppelin shirts. He seemed unsure if I was a legit fan at first as he told me his favorite song was Stairway and asked my favorite to which I responded Going to California and he cracked this ear to ear grin and that understanding made up for all the years of torment I suffered as a kid.
    But yeah man I'm totally on the same boat, I only wear those shirts because I love those bands and I find it disingenuous when I see these teenagers in the university area and the clubs wearing band shirts and they know nothing of these bands.
    Girls wearing Nirvana shirts seem to be the worst case where I see them wearing it and they have heard Smells Like Teen Spirit and maybe Come As You Are and dub themselves fans of the band despite probably never listening to the full Bleach, Nevermind or In Utero albums and romanticizing Kurt's suicide or claiming it was an artistic statement. Makes me sick personally.

    Don't assume you know what people listen to. Back in the 80s guy asked me why i wearing ACDC shirt I said what you mean why and I knew he meant because I was black he started questioning me about the band he quickly learned that I know more about AC DC then he did. So don't assume because the kids wearing a Guns and Roses shirt or Five Finger Death Punch or Nirvana shirt you know what kind of music they listen to. Plus t-shirts are great conversation starters I seen a shirt a person had on and say hey I like that band to and have had many great conversations about music because of it. That's the thing that you're Jenners were doing that's crappy to take your image and put it on there with somebody else image without their permission it is just cheesy that's a whole different deal.

      Sean Smith I agree rap and hip hop is taking over our generation and is slowly killing rock and roll and the thing is the shows you see rap and hip hop artists put on today came from rock and roll but here’s the thing rock and roll did it better I don’t think you see the drummer spinning upside down in a cage like Motley Crue or the lead singer zip lining over the crowd to a secondary stage like Paul Stanley

  • @Ty-iz9wd
    @Ty-iz9wd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The problem with this thinking is that it can target people who actually like the band and are being called posers because they can't name or don't like a particular song you ask them. Like for example, I like Led Zeppelin but can I sing the lyrics to stairway of heaven? No! But I can sing Going to California for the most part.
    Especially as a black girl it's annoying when people come up to you and act like they're elite. Most people think you're a poser because you don't look a certain way or simply because you're black. I've had one girl in hs ask me my top 3 favorite song from Sleeping with Sirens and was shocked when I could name 3 that wasn't commercially popular at the time. Like, what gives away that I could possibly be a poser? Lmao. I don't really dress alternative for the most part anymore but I still listen to metal and rock.

    Once i wore a van halen t shirt. A youth gave me a look like he owned the band. Maybe because i didnt wear ripped jeans and with crew cut haircut. I am in my late 40s would it be reasonable for me to wear ripped jeans? No. It would be like me trying so hard for my age. I last owned a ripped jeans maybe like 20 years ago. I listened to van halen since the 80s. Way before this kid was born. I dont judge young people wearing t shirts of bands from my generation. Regardless what their motives are. If their motives are music, then i'm glad they carry on the popularity of these bands and have great taste in music. No generation owned a band. Good music is ageless.

    When i see someone wearing a band tee of a band i love, you know, i wanna ask and talk to them about it just for them to say the dont actually know the band. Those shirts are to support the band and find people that have same interests as you. Like when you see a band tee at a store that you like, you can buy it if youre gonna put some effort into actually researching and listening to them and hey they might become something you enjoy. I know it might not sound that deep but i just want to find people out there who actually listen to what theyre wearing!

  • @skybluemarshall
    @skybluemarshall 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    SOME young people today have way too many rules about band teeshirts. You can't wear a band's tee, just for fashion or because you like their logo or name. You can't wear a band's tee because you heard one of their hits on the radio and you really liked it. You can't wear the merch of the band that you're going to see in concert, even if it's a big music festival and you want to show your support for one of the 20 different bands at the concert. You can't buy a band's merch at the venue and then wear it during the concert, you have to buy it after the concert and carry it to your car. You can't even call it a concert. You have to call it a "show". You can't wear a band's merch if the band that your seeing is an offshoot of the band on your tee shirt. You can't wear a band tee from a totally different genre or style of music. You can't wear band tee from a very similar band or close competitor. You can't listen to music of the band that you're going to see on the way to the concert or "show".
    Speaking as old time Rocker, who grew up in the 70s, wearing band tee shirts 24/7, here's my take on all of this: If you really want to call yourself a Rocker or a Metal Head or a music fan in general, then there are no fucking rules. Wear whatever the fuck you want to wear.
    If you are following someone else's rules of what they consider to be acceptable, non-douchey, non-poser behavior or proper "show" etiquette, then you have already failed. Most new genres of music were created by not following the damn rules in the first place.

    I proudly say that I wear my band t-shirts all the time. I came from the RnR era and it's part of who I am. My band t-shirts are mostly from gigs that I've attended in which I support those artists proudly. It's the generation of music where artists actually played their instruments and their music generally has some sort of message behind it. I have always worn 'attitude' shirts & I believe it's a great way of sharing your lurve in support of the artists who give so much to us & my way of 'giving back' to them by promoting their name & what their music stands for. I can also proudly say I have bred a son who is a 2nd generation rocker who also wears band shirts from time to time. I agree with Sharon Osborne in regards to telling the 'Jenner' type to stick to 'lipstick' to promote their names. What have they no new fake body parts left to flaunt for their income that they have to ride on the coat tails of real artists? Appalling they try to gain/keep their celebrity status by 'adding' to & changing musicians logos names etc. Isn't that sorta plageurism or bootlegging? I'll stick to my 'official' band merch cos I know it's them who are (& rightly so) profiting from the sales. It's about sharing the lurve not sharing the profits! I say Long live RNFR & all the merch that supports that! 🤘 Interesting topic indeed.🎶🎤🎸🥁🎻🎺🎹

If anybody from Scarborough could tell me the name of the store and if it's still open that would be awesome it was around 1993/94 the last time I was there so it might be closed down by now the woman that was working/owned the place was really cool and used to show me really cool merch I had no idea existed

    Being old school as I am, to me it's borderline cultural appropriation for someone to wear something without knowing anything about it or what it means. The Punk, Metalhead, Goth, and Hardcore cultures are very distinctive in society, and if you aren't part of them yet you're wearing our gear, you're a poser and you WILL get called out for it. However, if you're not part of our culture and you want to learn about it, then ask politely and we will teach you. That's how to become one of us, learn about it and what it means, and if it resonates with you, join us. It's really that simple.

    I have tons of metal shirts I picked up in the 80s and 90s. Every shirt I have, I either bought music from said band, went to the concert, or both. That being said, I couldn't care less who wears what shirt from what band. Life's too short to worry about other peoples choices that don't affect me at all.

    My girlfriend got me a pink Floyd dark side of the moon shirt , but it's not about the logo , it's bc I love pink Floyd and the songs , I love classic rock music , I'm 17 and I discovered classic rock music about six years ago , pink Floyd was my first then queen , and guns and roses and other rock groups , at first I didn't know a lot about them , but then the more I listen , the more I learned , I began to study more and more , and each day , I still learn

    I never wore and still do not wear band (or any brand) T-shirts. Growing up in a churchianity family, the bands displayed on T shirts and played on MTV ("the devil's channel") were considered evil. But I have my own reasons for not wearing these types of shirts: I feel like a walking billboard sign. I am not interested in being a walking advertisement no matter how much I love the band. I was however influenced by the fashion sense of bands in the late 80s such as Guns N Roses, and I carry on that aesthetic (in a thrifted outfit sense) to this day.

    (Late comment) I love rock and rock is very inspirational for me I grew up listening to nirvana and Motley Crue and Metallica and blink 182 and even now I listen to new artists like mgk and Yungblud Jxdn and Kenny and Travis barker “in my opinion” I think it’ okay to wear rock bands merchandise and stuff like that for grunge asesthetic emo reasoning for any fashion way of support I respect it and I respect everyone but at the same time if your going to wear these things at least be brutally honest when someone confronts you about you listening to a band although it is disappointing that they don’t listen to these amazing artists but I still respect you more if your honest with me about a album or song...

    Lol I remember 2 kids having a tøp band shirt and not knowing what it was. I told them they should actually listen to the music because they’re really cool. I still don’t know if they listened to them. I just remembered being like “one of me!” And being like oh shit..

    One time in college I complimented a friend of mine on his Ramones Shirt & asked about his Favourite Song by them? 🙂 His response was "Oh I didn't realise they were band I'm just wearing it because everybody is" 🤷‍♂️
    Me: 😐

    I think fashion wise it makes sense, in this day in age people talk about stuff they don't really know much about, having an opinion can make you be loved or hated. In that same way people wear things they don't support or don't really know about. I think is funny, but not against it. If anything this would be more of a complement. Those bands really left a mark in the world. I get happy when I see someone with an old band shirt.
    In some other note, they should be careful cause it might seem like a stretch but symbols being misrepresented could lead to something else and it's as simple as flipping a swastika, you can go from spiritual to a nazi
