Absolutely agree. I’m also a fellow Pro MUA & I feel that if you’re going to charge money and call yourself a Pro MUA, you need to cater to all skin tones. Period. I keep cream black, red, yellow, white, etc. in my kit so that I can make custom colors to match anyone & everyone. And I also agree on making people grey. If you don’t have a shade to match the client, DONT DO IT THEN. I’d say most people who get their makeup professionally done, end up taking photos and posting them online. I’m always like “would I be okay with this look being posted on their social media?”. This is what these artists should be thinking when they are turning their client grey.

In my opinion (as a Brit), popular UK makeup today is an evolution of the early 2000s makeup (darkest dream matte mousee foundation you can find, don't blend at the neck, lightest foundation on the lip with a brown lip pencil and a smokey or frosted eye), if the make up looks like a modern/more technical version of this then its probably a British MUA!
i’m so curious though why in the age of social media it seems they’re more stuck towards that look?? i’ve always wondered that since even if they’re not on SM they’ll see celebrities and stuff! sorry if i sound ignorant, i’m just not sure how to word my comment!
@@nukhbaguloter I think that many MUAs who are older millennials probably first got into make up in early 2000s then just got stuck in that phase ! As the gen z start replacing the millennials I think we will see a shift in trends.
A video comparing British and American makeup would be super interesting! Could even become a series of country vs country or region vs region. Perhaps even makeup in different cultures? Egyptians, Geisha, etc. Great video!
@EGKitty Reminds me of the videos on the twin channel, makeup and skincare during the xyz times. But perhaps with a more serious informative aspect to it.
the dark liner is a technique that brown and black women have been doing forever! i think its become popular on white women but its not really "made" for us unless done a very specific way
Ooohhh.. white girls were doing it in the early 90’s too… we wanted to be just like our beautiful deeper darker skinned sisters and lining our lips like this was one way of doing it. Looked so much better on them, gorgeous… on us??? Not so much. I have yearbook photos… I was a little more skater so I didn’t wear much lipstick other deep burgundy (grunge look), but my friends all sported the lined lips.
It’s really not about who it was made for in this case because it would look like the same hideous “steak lips” on darker skinned women if they had such an obvious separation between the two shades. I don’t know why blending isn’t common sense to some.
Lethal burn 1: "It's fine to wear a lot of makeup, but one thing to remember is to blend it in properly." Lethal burn 2: "The way UK salons do their makeup... in a particular way..." Instant death: "Why is that line there? What does it mean?" just kidding, robert was very tactful and kind as per usual.
Robert you are so diplomatic. The very first picture is testament to this. Lion King😂😂😂😂. I love that you are actually trained. When you learn online and there's no instructors to correct you. This is what you get. You don't want your first critic to be when your client is refusing to pay. Thank you again Robert for teaching me three years ago how to apply eye pencil correctly... Quite costumy😂😂😂 you're at the lady with these windshield wiper lashes that seem to be missing the other part of the lash. You are so diplomatic.
I certainly don't have the face (or confidence) to wear that pink face makeup, but I do think it is beautiful. You're right, it is oddly pleasing to the eye.
You never need to excuse a "lack of makeup" to us - you're beautiful, wonderful and brilliant with or without it in any given moment. 💗 Now let's get into these fabulous fails! 🤩🥳

I really like how you are not being mean and actually give out nice critique! :) And as a finnish person it would be fun to watch (and learn) about how makeup is done in the UK salons, we nordics usually very careful (aka plain..) with our makeup looks so the kinda "chav-esque" makeup is very interesting :)
The pink undereye girl doesn’t belong to this list, some of these are just people doing their own face. From a pro I’d be mad, as a client, but when doing your own makeup, do whatever the heck you want. And no one should be allowed to ”publically shame” about it
Just before my wedding, I went for a consult at a "fancy" salon in my town and they did a trial run of my wedding day makeup. No sooner did I leave and get in my car and looked in my mirror that the makeup was cakey, already melting off my face, etc. It looked AWFUL. I decided to do my own makeup because I trusted my own skills for my wedding day and I got more compliments on it AND it stayed on all day. Ever since, I've always told my women friends that if they are confident in their own skills and don't mind doing it themselves, then do your own wedding makeup. Unless you completely trust the artist, only YOU know what you really want for your wedding day. Trust your skills because chances are that someone you barely know isn't going to do it the way that you like it or want it done. Again, unless you totally trust that artist.
Amen!! I did my own makeup (with my sister’s help) for my wedding and regret nothing. My makeup tastes are very different from what’s trendy these days, so there was no way I was going to have some rando try and interpret what I like on my face. Much easier to do it myself! Plus I didn’t have to pay anyone, haha.
@@agentcallisto Yup! I know some women would rather not put the pressure on themselves, and I totally get that. But I am SO glad I went for that consult/trial run a couple weeks before because had I not, I would have been so disappointed on my wedding day. I mean, that looked so awful. Even the lipstick was melting after a few minutes and I had globs of it in the corners of my mouth. So, I did my own and loved how it turned out. We didn't have setting spray back then, but if I had an occasion (like that!) that I needed it to stay on, of course I would wear my most long wearing products and then I would lightly set it with hairspray. Worked great and the makeup stayed in place for hours!
I remember my friends doing the brown or black eyeliner lined lips with a clear gloss back when I was in junior high in the early 90’s… I have yearbook photos to prove that this was a thing almost every girl was doing… it’s a look that keeps getting recycled over and over again.

Thank you for your words on “ beef lips” people can be so nasty to anyone who decides to rock them. Bad or good. It’s literally one of my favorite lip combos. The brown liner on the whole lips and then put the lighter shade is a great tip ! Respect good beef lips !

Omg “steak lips” had me DYING!!! 😆 That business with the yellow foundation is why I refuse to get my color matched anywhere. I have yellow undertones in some spots, but it you put something with a yellow undertone on me I just look more yellow. It’s SO bad.

I’ve actually had the opposite problem of the yellow face. Because I have quite a red face I always thought I had pink undertones. But the rest of my body is yellow 😂
I used to do that lip look back in the early 90's!! I can't believe it's back in fashion in the UK. I haven't seen it back here, in Australia - thank God! It's not exactly the nicest look, especially if it's done badly. And I really feel bad for that poor green faced woman. Thanks for brightening up my morning!
I am very fair with a pink undertone (my photo here is done in sunset lighting so it's not right haha) and it is super obvious if the makeup is too yellow. Some people in stores have tried to sell me darker foundations, and somehow people don't see the glaring mistake it is? Sometimes they think they add a fresh tan on me but honestly I just look sick. The mind boggles.

how did they not realize that the "pink undereyes" was done on purpose just for fun? it doesn't fit in with the rest of these looks at all. there's a difference between genuinely bad makeup (unblended, wrong color) and not liking a trend.
Happy Monday, Robert! This is such a pleasant surprise while I wait for my AC to be fixed. This is yet another reason (I think Reason #1024) that I love your content! Have an awesome day and you look amazing! 💓🖤💓🖤💓🖤💓🖤
4:51 While I am never going to be a fan of drawn in brows like that, they did a good job of making sure that the brows were matching and even. That treatment that they did with the eye shadow is very dramatic, very pretty! Thank you for giving your name to that dark lip line thing that’s been going on for so many years now. I always wondered if there was an actual name, and it really does look like a medium rare steak lol. My one real problem with her overall look are her gray, gray, gray cheekbones. I saw that and all of a sudden I was singing zombie zombie zombie aaii aaii aaii! It looks rather like the MUA was gonna go dramatic but forgot what the plan was and went off the rails on the cheeks. 10:27 the more I look at her, the more I like what she’s doing here. Sort of a 21st century Mona Lisa thing, just instead of a very thin veil, she’s wearing a thin shiny highlight. She is also slightly delving into what I think of as the dirty nose look that seems to be a thing, but she has a really good touch with it, so the contour makeup looks purposeful and well balanced.
Ive always thought either I do my eyes or my lips, but I typically don't do bold eyes and bold lips together. I like that you can tell where people wre from based on their make ups.

Can't wait to watch your new video as soon as the electricity comes back on🥳 you are one of the few YTs I get excited for when there's a new video posted.
Thank you for posting your knowledge with us 🖤
Oh my Buddha. Honestly, I respect you as a make up artist. And your personally shows how sweet you are. I started over 15 years ago. You’re the most real I’ve seen. I appreciate your understand about the foundation of makeup and skincare. ❤ just keep slaying 😉
I’ve actually had the opposite problem of the yellow face. Because I have quite a red face I always thought I had pink undertones. But the rest of my body is yellow 😂
I love how you are so respectful! Especially with something so sensacionalist and maybe even tooked out context.
Thanks for the ‘lines’ explanation. I’ve never heard that before but it makes so much sense. Thanks, Robert! 💕🐾💕🫰🏻
Absolutely please do a video on how you could tell the MUAs are British.
you can just tell🤣
Robert I’m literally obsessed with you. You are like the perfect human. Thank you for your videos!
I love this videos!! The way you talk about the make up and makeup artist is so respectful, pointing out what's wrong without putting the person down! I'm here for it!!
You’re always so kind and objective in your comments - kudos!!!
I’m a Brit living in France and find the difference between make up (and clothing tbh) - especially for younger women - really shocking!
Please please PLEASE make a video on British makeup styles 😊
Robert, that lip is absolutely gorgeous! And big YES to the British makeup!
I love how you critique but not bash. ❤
Robert, you don't have to wear makeup in your videos for us! 😊 I have to say it really makes me chuckle when you're pointing out all the things I also noticed LOL. I kept going OMG OMG at some of these, yikes. 🖤🖤🖤
Omg Robert you are about to reach 1mill!! I’m so proud of you I’ve been watching you and loving your content for years, you really really deserve this achievement and I will be here along the way with you throughout your career and wish you all the luck in the world and sending so much love! 🖤
My god. You are so respectful with your feedback. These “looks” were terrible but you were very specific about how to improve them.
This is such nice, respectful, and constructive feedback 🖤
Hallo Robert , thank you so much. When I watch these I always learn something.
how did they not realize that the "pink undereyes" was done on purpose just for fun? it doesn't fit in with the rest of these looks at all. there's a difference between genuinely bad makeup (unblended, wrong color) and not liking a trend.
When you said "tin man" I absolutely DIED! THE ACCURACY! 😂😂😂
Happy Monday, Robert! This is such a pleasant surprise while I wait for my AC to be fixed. Interestingly enough, the first picture you showed started building her following on Facebook when live makeup tutorials were the thing to do. Whenever she’d go live, some of the critiques would be constructive and others would be so mean spirited. I say all of that to say, thank you for your professional critiques and highlighting the positives and the areas that need improvement.
Ok but number 11 is giving Yzma and I kind of love it! 😅💜(For a costume of course)
Hi Robert, you’re almost at 1 million subscribers 👍🏼😀👏🏻
Congratulations, we love you.
These videos are really useful for what not to do because I'm a very visual person and 'get it' instantly. That and I have a real chuckle LOL
Yes please- a video on British makeup would be very helpful!
Ive always thought either I do my eyes or my lips, but I typically don't do bold eyes and bold lips together. I like that you can tell where people wre from based on their make ups.
YES PLEASE on the UK Make-up video, who better to give us the insight and ESPECIALLY on the "Chola/Latina with the UK Spin" lip ❤❤ I also feel like you are 100% correct #2 being unfinished and its most definitely giving Drag more specifically Queen Trixie!
Are you talking about roast beef lips 😂
Happy Monday, Robert! Hope you are well.
Incredible information as always :) Thank you for always explaining everything so that it's super easy to understand!
This video is very useful and I think your comments are fair, Robert. Really more people should have your videos on their recommendation page!
Your skin is really looking great, Robert! 😊❤
The brown liner plus light gloss/lipstick is how black and brown girls have been wearing lipstick for years because it’s how they look good on us. Otherwise we look ashy.
Robert you are so talented and I really enjoy the expertise you share with us. ❤
Loving this video! Please make more like this❤ your commentary is very professional and I love how you don’t bash the makeup but rather give good solid advice!
You're such a lovely person ❤. TH-cam is better with you and James honestly. I'm always happy when you post.
The way I can watch these videos by you Robert all day everyday may deem me addicted but I don’t care!!!
How did I miss this yesterday ??? Much love to you and thank you so much in all the hard work you do for us 💜 I learn so much from your channel and your personality and genuine kindness is so refreshing 😊my makeup has never looked better since taking your advice ! Thank you!💜😊😊😊
You are such a kind critic. I love it
I love the #13 pinky eye look! How can you tell the difference between US and UK makeup? On the west coast we used to call that lip style “cholla” lips. A style favored by Hispanic women in Southern California etc. You can Google it, cuz I don’t know if I spelled it right 😅
Wooo early! Thank you for making these videos for us all
Could you do a video with some tips when looking for a makeup artist for certain occasions? Like red flags or good things to look for when looking for a wedding makeup artist?
I think the eyelook in #3 is stunning!
Thank you for bringing up overusing these yellow shades. I can't believe some influencers & that horrendous yellow they use.
ummm i hate how the article called girl #3 cheap. i wish more people were as respectful as robert
It's got to be tough as a makeup artist, knowing that your name is going to be attached to a client's look, to fulfill a personal preference you don't agree with. 🖤👻 Thank you for this one!! I really enjoy your gentle, classy, and informative critique.
🎉 congratulations! Ive been rocking with you since 100k and im so happy for you
I would love if you made a video with the UK mua fails and then showed us, how you could use the same products, but make it look great😍
We love you with or without. Always stunning ❤❤
