Robert , thank you so much for being anti MLM/pyramid schemes and pointing them out in your videos. They are so predatory and so many people fall victim to their online scams. It’s so nice to have someone with your platform tell your followers not to fall for MLM scams.
I’d like to add that she may have seen that work on nail art brushes, but nail art brushes are made with different adhesive, and pressed a certain way, since nail art brushes have to withstand acetone and nail polishes/lacquers. They’re basically just built different. Either way don’t do that to those either, it’ll mess them up too. lol
I think it's important to name the pyramid scheme so people know! Some makeup MLMs are: Mary Kay, Younique, Beauty Counter, LimeLife, and Seint. (I do however think it's smart for Robert not to name them, because these companies WILL try to sue creators for calling them pyramid schemes!)
You are 100% right about the Northern glam. In London it is definitely more subdued BUT the exception is Essex. Essex girls are very much like the Northern girls, friday afternoon with hair in big rollers going around town is quite normal and theres none of this nice jeans, heels and a top thing, its dresses, big hair, full glam, lashes, nails, tan, bags etc. They look positively red carpet worthy! I've lived between London and the North most of my life and you got that bang on.
Love the curls! I'm honestly surprised to see an MLM hun advising any technique that uses less product lol I love that you show us hits and misses, too.
Ooh ok let's talk about synthetic fibers and boiling water! I have a lot of weirdly tangential knowledge of this as someone who restores and customizes dolls. Yes, you can use hot or boiling water in SOME CASES on synthetic fibers to mold them into a new shape-- that's absolutely true. I have personally taken used, second hand barbies that were more than 20 years old and had DESTROYED hair, brushed it out with fabric softener, boiled it, placed it in rollers and created slick, smooth and perfect hairstyles as if the hair was brand new. BUT, I have also accidentally fried those fibers beyond repair with the exact same method. You need to know what kind of fibers are in the brush you are using and understand that you are taking a big risk by boiling it. The reason that doll restorers and customizers are not as at much risk as makeup brushes is that doll hair is attached through looped wefts inside of tiny holes, and depends less on glue, although around 2010-ish we started seeing "glue seepage" dolls and "glue head" dolls in which glue lined the inside of the doll's heads and the exact same process used by hobbyists for basically decades absolutely destroyed the dolls beyond repair. And in some instances, the dolls were destroyed not even by boiling but as you said, by just a hot day or being stored somewhere with too much heat (and sometimes humidity.) All that to say, if you are hell bent on trying everything to save a brush and you are willing to risk losing it entirely in the attempt to restore it, you absolutely must protect the base of the brush from that heat. And also all that to say, it's so weird how relevant this unrelated experience in a completely hobby is to makeup brushes lol.
I’m from the US living in the UK and it was really interesting seeing her TikTok! I think there’s a northern glam look for sure, then there’s the London look that’s a little more understated and sort of feels like a big city/metro cool girl feel. Then the sort of… uh… “chav” stereotype that people sort of do on the surface, so it’s nice to see someone try a more northern look!
I wanna say for those on a budget that for colour correctors, if you've already bought a really dark one you can just mix it with your concealer to lighten the shade! I always have to do this even with the 'lightest' colours because I'm so pale, so can attest to it working 😂🖤
@@ambersmith2612 if you have any mixer liquids those work well too! LA girl makes really awesome ones! I use my white one all the time to make things lighter 😊
You're right about the North thing. We like to go all out. I read that it has its origins in the fact that many places in the north tend to be more working class and so lots of people used to (and still do) work in jobs with uniforms and dress codes so when its time for us to let our hair down we really go for it, full glam hair makeup and clothes. It could of course be others reasons but its an interesting discussion. Edit: and the shade to the "academies" 😂. Cough plousie cough 😂
I like the phone light nose contour one because it's, like, obviously not something you're meant to do every single day, but if you've never contoured your nose before, that's a good way to get an idea for what kind of shape you'd like to do. You can use it to practice.
I mostly learned my makeup processes and techniques watching Korean MUAs and Korea-based influencers. I love seeing how things can be different or similar on other places.
Me too! I started doing makeup by watching Korean beautubers etc. so the techniques I use are a lot different to other people in the UK (in general, of course other people are going to do it like me). I remember like over a decade ago ordering these products from Korea and Japan and feeling so fancy with my not-available-in-the-UK makeup/skincare, and now they're everywhere lmao I still order from Korea though...it's like twice the price over here even including shipping from across the world 🥲
I loved your color corrector shade explanation! As a lighter skinned black woman I’ve never known what color corrector to use so I just don’t use any. NGL I definitely took a screenshot of the section of the video with the color correctors compared to the skin tone.
Omg your hair today is looking amazing! Also thank you for putting time and effort into your content, it has helped me with feeling more confident with doing makeup, as I don't wear a lot of makeup 😊
As a north-west raised girly, what you said about the north is so true lol I’be been living abroad for 3 years and am going back to England for my wedding and trying to find an MUA that *didnt* do that kind of ultra concealed, dark lip liner type makeup was so difficult. Nothing wrong with it, but it’s so not my style. I managed to find one whose portfolio matched my makeup style much better but yes, it didn’t hit me til you pointed it out, but it’s absolutely a thing.
I love the way you explain why things work or don't work, so even the less familiar of us (me) can understand. If someone just says "don't do that" without explanation, I'll go out of my way to do it 😏.
The boiling brush tip works really well for liner, crease brushes that require precision. I’m a face painter and highly recommend this although I would be careful just to submerge only the bristles
I think boiling brushes might also make the hairs melt together if you’re not careful 😮 also the last video was cute and I really appreciated how much fun you had with your education regarding it ♥️🥰

10:19 hello I'm very late to this party but just in case y'all are also late: if you find that you're struggling with choosing the correct shade between like pale peach and deep orange for your colour corrector, highly recommend using a simple black & white filter on your phone camera because taking away the hue variation makes it much easier to see if the shade of the corrector is similar to your skintone (basically just look for the greys to match, like if your skin and the concealor look the same colour with the filter on then it's a good match for your skintone)

The way i understand colour corrector and i learnt this from someone on youtube years ago is that the corrected area should just about match your actual skin tone and shade so technically if youre doing it right you should be able to colour correct without even needing to apply anything over the top like concealer. Its just working very light handed and building up the opacity until you get that seemless shade.
Another thing about typical 'Northern' makeup that I've noticed is plaaaaaaaaaaaaastering the highlighter on so there is this silver strip that goes kinda grey/brown where it mixes with the bronzer they've used to contour...
Wow the UK/USA one was SO interesting! I am a bit of both, having had American schooling till middle school, and then going onto British schooling (I'm from the UK though). So for me, I realised that I do both kinds of makeup! I go for the UK look when I'm going to events/dinners and then my more normal, everyday look is the American one. It may work on certain paintbrushes also, but i definitely wouldn't do that on makeup brushes, it could melt depending on what the fibers are made of
Maybe only put the hairs in warm water instead of the whole tip?
I think it's important to name the pyramid scheme so people know! Some makeup MLMs are: Mary Kay, Younique, Beauty Counter, LimeLife, and Seint. (I do however think it's smart for Robert not to name them, because these companies WILL try to sue creators for calling them pyramid schemes!)
And Monat! They have a skincare line along with hair care. 🤢
Totally! My colleague at work
Got sucked up into a few schemes & now shes struggling money wise
Don't forget Avon, The Body Shop, and Senegence (Lipsense). They're MLMs too.
i had NO idea about beauty counter! I thought i’d never bought from an MLM but i have a brow gel i ordered online omg
Never heard of that mlm but I knew when the tiktok said “message me match” it was one. Thanks for making a mention of that for unassuming people.
