No Crank No Start 2011 Kia Sedona

  • 2011 Kia Sedona 108 K miles,
    Intermittent No crank, No start,
    It’s been happening for a year now randomly lately its been happening a lot,
    First I checked the battery and its connections its all good,
    Second check the fuse box and starter Relay, which might not help because its random,
    Third I suspected the key could be defected which prevent it from starting but I have 2 keys and it’s the same with both, so its less likely,
    Fourth I suspected Neutral Safety Switch which allows the engine to start if the shifter is in Park or Neutral only, but if its defective it will prevent the car from starting so I replaced it since its $40.00, and its easy to get to,
    That did not solve the problem, I need to investigate if the starter is good or not, you can remove the starter relay and jump the contact terminals Terminal 87 & Terminal 30 make sure the shifter in Park position, even if the key is not in the ignition the starter should spin if not defective but the engine wont start, now you know starter is OK,
    put the keys in the ignition and turn to on position of course keep shifter in Park and jump the starter as I explain before if the engine starts then the problem is the relay, which it was in this case, even though it clicks and as you can see, the problem is the contacts inside the relay they get dirty due to humidity temperature change and its old 108K miles ( Never Trust a Relay) so I replaced it with a new one it is only $12.00 from Autozone and that solve the No crank No start issue, also I would keep a jumper wire and a Spare Relay in the vehicle just incase other relays or accessories malfunction so you can use the same method to test whether it’s the relay or something else, most relays work the same way and have similar terminals diagram. I hope this helps thanks for watching

    06 Sedona. Replaced the relay, it worked for awhile, so I did much diagnosis, found that the relay was energizing but not closing the circuit. I assumed since the relay is really just a generic standard relay that could fit many other cars including some GM cars, that it either wasn't a proper relay for the job or wasn't getting enough connection, I actually think the legs are a little short to fit all the way into the fuse box connection on aftermarket relays. I noticed that other kias use a bigger, like a solenoid relay for this so I got what's called a heavy duty starter relay and wired it in using solid core wires that fit right into the slots and on the other side crimped into the connectors that came with the relay. It works!

      I'm here for my 2007 Kia Sedona as well. From an online search, there were several people who had success by just removing and replacing the same relay. That didn't work for me tonight, so looks like I'll be getting a new relay and I pray this works! KIA's are known for bad grounds, and bad connections , the fuse boxes for hyundai and kia has low quality circuit boards and that causes damages to relays and fuses, Never trust a relay , Relays are number 1 suspect , this problem haunted me for a long time, finally i figured it out and i am very happy that i can help and pass the info to anyone needs it, thanks to youtube

    I went as far as removing the starter to check it, and it wasn't a bad call because it gave me a chance to clean all the excess carbon residue in the motor, and I could check the graphite contacts. They were still good. I tested the solenoid and everything worked fine. I thought that the cleaning would ensure the cranking. Nope. Thanks for the direct jumping trick with the piece of wire. I got to a point of being always anxious and never wanting to go far from home because of the fear of getting stuck and having to pay for towing. In my case it would not turn on, I would try, and try, wait, try, wait, and finally, whenever the car wanted, it would turn on. But that randomness was driving me mad. I did a test with a LED to see if the relay was getting the voltage, and in one test it didn't. So something else is preventing the car from starting. I think that I'll change that neutral sensor next since it's cheap, and continue checking. At least now I'm not afraid anymore of getting out on the car. I'll do the wire trick in 10 seconds and go.

    • @JazzLowrider
      @JazzLowrider  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just change the relay and see how it works, the neutral switch is less likely the problem even though i did replaced it, but that part usually last a long time,

      @@JazzLowrider Dude, you're the man. Where you at? Im in Hicksville, NY. I got this baby from my mom, 130K miles a few years ago. She wanted to donate it because the shifter would not go into Park, so the Key wouldn't come out, dead battery of course. I went out charged the battery, air in the tires and drove it 90 miles home! Religiously Dealer maintained since new 2007. Well the dealer told her the cable that connects the shifter to the tranny was bad, between $1700 to $2000 to fix. Well I tinkered with the Shifter and there is an adjustment for that cable, 1 1/2 turns after playing with it a few times and the shifter smoothly goes into park again. I had Brakes, Front struts, and the reg stuff done, oIL /filter change, air filter and bought Michelln Premier LXT 103 H on Tire Rack and this baby does 100 without a shutter and put on a hitch! got my money's worth out of this old baby, for under $3000 in part and labor! only problem now is the REAR Passenger side sliding door is out of alignment, and tries to open and gets stuck, and when opened the same happens when closing. then eventually the motor goes into Lock-Out and mamuel mode. any ideas???? Im thinking of maybe a body shop might ne my best shot. The door has an ever so slight scrap?| Thinking maybe Shim out the bracket with a washer? Anything that worked before, will work again if you have a little patience and the knowledge! Thanks again buddy!!!

    Just a bit of advice, try starting the vehicle in neutral instead of park and it might start. This worked for me. I spent a lot of time testing things and it was just the neutral safety switch. I figured I would post this because it could save someone from getting stranded. I was able to get to the parts store and pick up a switch.

I would love to hear your opinion.

    • @marcelcovaci9922
      @marcelcovaci9922 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably your car has a clutch switch since it’s a manual. A clutch switch will prevent your car to start unless you have the clutch pedal pressed. If the clutch pedal is pressed and the car still does not start that might be the culprit

    Just curious, but what are you using to jump start the car in place of the starter relay?

    • @JazzLowrider

      14 gauge electrical wire striped about 1/2 inch at both ends and bent to the shape u see in the video

    I thought my starter was bad jumped out the relay and it cranks bought a relay , still no start so im guessing its the neutral switch , what do you think

    • @JazzLowrider
      @JazzLowrider  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's possible , but i would also check the fuses to make sure , neutral switch could be bad if it turns out not the switch u can return it back just keep the receipt.

    Did you hear one clicking sound when the key was turned to start? I am not sure about it in your video.
    I have similar issue. But I hear a single clicking sound with no cranking.
    My battery and alternator are good. I replaced the starter relay but it did not make any difference.
    At the moment, my Entourage is starting without any problem as if it never happened. I am afraid the symptom might comeback without any warning.

    • @gavfistow
      @gavfistow 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your Entourage likely has a failed tyco relay on the main board. There's a free DIY fix for that on here. You can also try manually making a contact with the starter relay there's also a video on here showing how to do that.

      I already watched the TH-cam videos and I know that it is not a relay issue as I already tested with a new relay.
      Since then, my Sedona has been starting without any problem as if the issue never existed.
      I am thinking that the culprit is the starter.
