Thanks for doing this video! Praise God for your love for the word. I own several Schuyler Quentels and PSQs but I got my first Allan today. Purple ESV Readers with purple under gold art gilt 😁 I absolutely love it and it’s going to be hard deciding which bible I’m going to read during my time with the Lord!
Brother David, thank you, sincerely, for this Ode to Allan. I own one premium Bible - the Allen Reader ESV in British Tan Highland Goatskin. I have flirted around with the idea of buying a Schuyler or a Cambridge, but in reality I own a perfect Bible that brings me much joy and happiness.

I was gifted one, ESV in Brown Goatskin, little over a year ago. While I’ve read it, I’m weighing using it from the pulpit and using it more. I love the features like lined paper in back. I currently use a calf split Cambridge

Next, your videos are a delight to watch daily. Keep up the great work in your ministry and your walk with Christ! David, I have been searching for the perfect Bible to have for my everyday use. I like to find a Bible that I can study from, preach and teach from, and just plain read from everyday. After watching this video, I have come to the decision of the Allan readers. My main use translation is the ESV. However the NASB is a very close 2nd. I like the way both of them flow. I can do all the things I have listed above through both translations. I looked on Evangelical Bible's website and their stock is... well very bare minimum to nothing at all for RL Allan's. I've searched on Bibles direct and all they have are esvs but they are discounted due to imperfections. There are no NASB's on their website for sale. And I've even tried Facebook marketplace and eBay. Still nothing. My question to you David is do you happen to know someone who is looking to sell an RL Allan readers Bible in either the ESV or NASB? I pray this message finds you and your family well and I pray you have a blessed day!
I don't know anyone at the moment, but these things come and go in cycles. I expect Allan to release another wave of NASB's in a few months, and ESV's by the summer.

Hi, would love it if you could focus on typography and layout, readability, font size and opacity of paper. Those are quite difficult to tell from the retailer’s website.

Been wanting an Allan for a long time now. Still can’t afford one. But currently I really have enjoyed Church Bibles, they have an excellent selection for KJV Bibles. I enjoy your reviews on different Bibles. I hope to be able to save up and obtain some Allan readers in the near future. 😀
I have a Cambridge esv large margin bible and i have a 45 dollar esv crossway and i use the crossway more i don’t know why but i cant seem to write or pull it out. May be because its too big but there awesome bibles!

Do you like the ESV the most for Allen? I bought the nasb one but sold it due to damaging it, someone bought it with the full details of what happened to it. I like that bible but I’m not sure if I should get nasb or ESV.
I do...but I also really like the 32 GSM NASB Reader from Allan as well. I just did a video on that one.
Do they come in large or giant print?

Are the charfleet ones good? It seems you like it for it's flexibility but do you find the art gilt and the binding is high quality like the jongbloed? I have a R.L. Allan 52 meriva calfskin binding by Royal Jongbloed and it's great. I might be receiving a Charfleet R.L. Allan 43 binding by Charfleet (discounted 10 pounds because it may or may not have some art gilt bleed --- I heard R.L. Allan isn't working with Charfleet anymore because they weren't satisfied with them overall? But maybe that's just a rumour, do you have any information?)
I'm not sure abut Allan not working with Charfleet anymore, but your 1st statement is accurate: that's how I feel.
I asked Ian of R L Allan and he said that Charfleet still works with Allan so it must've been a false rumour!
PS Allan DOES NOT Bind their own bibles at all. They always use Charfleet, Jongbloed, etc... YES They still use Charfleet in fact the latest 53c's were Charfleets!
Where do you find your Allan readers after they run out of stock on Evangelicalbible or biblesdirect? The only place I can find is eBay but they’re typically priced super high. Thank you
Some times on eBay, but mostly in the Facebook groups. -there's a lot of buying/selling/trading there.

How can you tell if a binding is done by Chant?
They usually say in the original listing so people who keep up with all the printings know where they are from -the knowledgable sellers (selling used) are able to include that in their listing as well. -But once you experience the different binderies you can tell the difference.
What website do you use to buy new Allan Bibles?

I write in most of them. They do good with the right pens and highlighters.

Maybe a dumb question, but what does "reader" mean in reference to bibles. What's the price in some of these premium bibles?
-Allan uses type settings from other publishers that have a large-print reference edition in reputable translations and they print it on better paper and bind it themselves. -They call those "readers" because they're really nice to read. -gosh that was a dumb question... 😘 ... and if you get one new they go for around $200 -the sought after editions after they are out of print can get pricy... gosh that was also a dumb question... (relax everyone, He's my best friend, and he asks really dumb questions. ok). 😂😂😘🤓

Love that brown ESV highland goatskin is so cool...someone gifted me one but it never came through.
I will eventually get one in highland someday, you are so right about Allan brother they are so mixed up and unpredictable. I really think they need to get things settled cause that can be a big letdown for folks expecting a certain style and getting a completely different look. The older highland Longprimer editions are beautiful and the Sovereign Highland man those are gorgeous, but those ESV highlands that's the perfect size and look IMHO.

I'd be interested in digging up an Allan sometime but they're out of my budget.
Takes me a bit to save up, but I've been at this for a few years too.
Affording it is a matter of saving up for what is a priority to you.

I love my Allan Bibles for study but I do find them kind of heavy and awkward for a church taking lap Bible. I'd love to find something with the same size font but a smaller footprint.

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly makes a Bible a “reader”, this term is new to me, sorry, and thank you.
Allan calles their larger print bibles (non-KJV) Readers.
What is the difference between Allan Readers and the Allan Longprimer?
Longprimer's are only KJV and have a little more detail. The Readers are a Non-KJV line. The type faces vary since Allan doesn't do their own.

face book groups are much more reasonable. Everything Bibles group is a good start.

@@stayhumble9453 -The new wave of NASB Readers will be out this month (Jan '19). The UK site has always shipped to US ok, I'm not sure about your country. You'd have to ask them.

No, everything is a limited printing. Typically you have to jump on editions when they come out before they're sold out. They do the NASB & ESV readers annually right now, and they don't last long in stock. You might ry Allan's site in the UK: www.bibles-direct.co.uk

I don't. -actually never got one of the new ones, I've been pretty happy with the black one in the video. -If you're on the Facebook groups, I've seen these come up often.

KJV is their mainstay, but no KJV the call a "readers."
Pronouncing Jongbloed as "Youngblood" is close enough (think it's actually more like "Yongblued", from talking to a native Dutch-speaker).

SA Tabernacle thanks for the reply. I think my original comment came out a little blunt lol. I’ve known Christ for only one year and I too am really into the Word. I have a Pitt Minion and a couple of Crossway’s $15-$30 bibles. I don’t mark up my bibles as extensively as you at this point so I get why you like to have more than a few bibles. I also see the value in expanding your library of commentaries and other books and I obviously would like to have other quality bibles (which is why I watch videos about them) but, I struggle with the question as to whether or not I really need them. At the end of the day, they’re a luxury item and God’s Word is eternal whether you put it in an expensive binding or not.

I can explain how he gets his Bibles. Let's begain...
Morning;
Gets up, prays, takes a shower, brushes teeth, puts on clothes, let's out dogs (if he has any), kisses wife (if he has one) locks the door, gets in car, drives to work.
Night;
Makes sure all his work is complete and secure, clocks out, walks out to car, drives home, unlocks door, locks door behind him, let's dogs out again (if he has any), prepares to make dinner, eats dinner, talks about his day with the wife (If he has one, she talks about her day), takes another shower, brushes teeth again, makes sure the doors are locked, goes to bed.
You can add kids in that mix if you like. But that is how he buys his Bibles. Some people these days sadly don't know what a normal life is. There is your insight.

Allan bibles have not been consistent in quality. One of my Allan bibles stamping on the spine is very off center. On another it is delaminating on the inside, also shown in another video. Overall, they are great bibles but they do need to work on their quality control.
i really wanted to finish watching your video but there was an awful low humming coming from it and i dumped it.
I suggest you stick with KJV only. Lest we be deceived.
