Wife's rig started doing this last week on her 2015 compass , I ended up repairing and then after a 6 pack of beer had an epiphany and decided to extend the harness and moved the relays up to behind the battery to be sheltered from road salt and hopefully moisture lol
Question for you about this amazing video. My 2011 Jeep Compass shuts down when driving. WHY? Crankshaft senor replaced battery replaced. Throttle fine alternator fine. Would it still be the Relay? Mechanic cant find the issue and its been a while now that he has had the Jeep I need it fixed like 2 weeks ago. I'm hoping its not the PCM. Also is this an easy fix? Thanks again for the fantastic video..
Work through the wiring in front of the drivers side front tire to see if there are any wires corroded off of the relay sockets. It can be replaced, I think but I was able to solder in some alternate wiring and it has lasted a couple of years now.
Any idea if the Compass with the 2.2 turbodiesel engine has the same placement of the ASD? It just dies on me on junctions and it struggles to start after the engine is warm. When cold, it starts right up ...
Hello! Just wondering how did you extract those pins out of the female slot? Mines had the same issue and i cant figure out how to get the pins out of the slot cause it snap pretty deep inside! Thanks.
Mostly the pins and s9ckets were pk. One was corroded off. Thats the one i bent over the pin from the new relay where it wss corroded, and soldered the jumper tp that and wired around. I didnt have any of the sockets to replace.
@@mykomodoc227 i bent the tab flat to 90 degrees so it didnt need to go into the corroded socket. Not a good plan but it was cold and rainy an i waa time pressured
Doing this same surgery. OEM part # from Jeep is: 68053218AA for $62. Any part store can cross reference the part number. Got the same relay from O’Reilys for $38 as of May ‘24.
Not true well in Texas it is not 😢 but love that idea of what he did because when it rained I was oh lord here we go again. So as a Texan it's not a problem to worry about in summer but when that rain comes in well yeah if I had to drive it sure did try to miss any kind of puddles. Yet somehow that water would creep up and there goes another relay. Lesson never buy a jeep compass 😊
It slides off of some plastic clips that go over metal tabs on the sheetmetal. I think there may be some plastic lock tabs that you have to depress to clear the metal. Youll have to feel around and see how it appears to attack to the metal. No screws
Worse place to put a relay block. Wife’s 2016 had the same issue. I put new relays in and soldered new jumper wires in and ran them back to the good wire. Ended up doing all the relays and wires because the whole block was shot. Notorious issue with the compass model
I have a 2016. Different issue the guy swap my relay to see if cooling fan would work. Due to I been through whole cooling system in like 2 yrs. When he swap it cooling fan worked now air bag lite was on. He actually split. .. where did u find the diagram for the relay??? We both couldn't find at the time of.

WOW, THAT RELAY HAS A PURPOSE,,AND THAT IS TO KEEP YOU VEHICLE FROM CATASTROPHIC FAILURE,,,,WHAT YOU CAN DO IS ADD AN EXTERNAL RELAY TO TAKE OVER FOR THE DEFECTIVE ONE,,BUT BYPASSING LIKE THIS SHOULD BE A DEFINITELY NONO,,FIND A VIDEO FROM SOUTH MAIN AUTO REPAIR ,,HE SHOWS HOW TO GO ABOUT DOING IT,,,,

Bad design.😮
I like your jumper wire idea.
I have new female pins coming in to replace the corroded one but your idea will get me going till the pins come in.
Thank you for posting this video it was very helpful I had a hard time but once I seen this and tried it out it worked wonderfully
Im glad it was helpful.

I think the relay box is in the same location, under the drivers side headlight. Have you changed the fuel filter?
@@4sl648 Thank you. The fuel filter I did not change yet, it is on my suspects list.
You never showed how you connected that yellow wire to the switch
Will you fix mine?!

So basically bent the pin on a new relay the other way? Sorry if i dont understand it right
@@mykomodoc227 i bent the tab flat to 90 degrees so it didnt need to go into the corroded socket. Not a good plan but it was cold and rainy an i waa time pressured
In that case is it ok that the relay is sitting little bit high and not flush on the relay box?
@@4sl648 hello sir! Thanks alot, i have the riot starting again!
That White cover on that relay box comes off and you can clean that corrosion out really simple
How do you remove the white cover?
Just wondering if those relays are interchangeable? Meaning can you use the fan relay for the auto shutdown relay and vice versa.
Yes they seem pretty generic. I think i moved a couple around to verify it was not the relay at first.

What is the top relay ?
I think the relay above has something to do with the cooling fan
Yes
Mine will start off we jump it... Is that the save issue?
no not the same issue.
What is the part number for relay?
It varies. Just search Jeep compass auto shutdown relay
How did you get the relay box to detach? I’m not seeing any bolts?

Thanks! I found those, must be seized on but I will get it. Great video.
Part number anyone or name ?

Agreed.
Where do u buy the relays auto parts or dealer
I got mine at Oreilly Auto Parts. I never get anything from the dealer if I can help it.
Thanks very good video l have the same problem l will work on the relay box 👍👍👍
does this go for the jeep patriot im having stalling issues
Im pretty sure its the same as the compass. Not sure if thats your issue, but the relay block gets the same issue.

This worked for me. Not sure about 2016 but I think its the same
I can't get the dang box off lol
Right on Brother same issue here , what a horribly design.
Green goblin strikes again man oh man that whole block is prob trash

We did not bypass the relay, only the rotted wire and terminal.
