This video helped me fix my UK Machine Mart 4000XL generator. The test did not work on mine, but symptoms and cure of changing oil pressure switch worked well. Thank you. Howard
I do maintenance for Cox communications portable generators and they have alot of the Xl4000 in their inventory.you are correct about most the time it's the oil pressure switch or pump not having enough pressure to make the switch work correctly.also the switch needs checked before install because I got a bad batch of oil pressure switches lately in our inventory.By the way great video
Thank you, Thank you! I had this issue. 4000EXL would run for 10 seconds and quit. Disconnected wires from pressure switch, generator stays running. But, I don’t understand why oil light doesn’t come on. I would think that should light.
Life saver!! Thank you I made sure I was full of oil and am running it till I replace the switch dont have a choice because we lost power and need it running now!!
I got a Generac 4000EXL from a yardsale. Generac website manual does not have oil drain plug location. I drained the oil from the oil filter area and that is about it. Any ideas on where it could be? I don't know if your "xl" has an oil filter...looks like it does not based on the oil pressure switch location. Mine is just in a little different location.
My 4000XL is model #09777-1.. Here's the manual with oil specs on page 4.. Doesn't get too cold where I'm at so I use 10W-30 year round.. manualzz.com/doc/22403635/generac-9777-1-generator-owner-s-manual
My 4000XL has an oil filter, so I cannot get the pressure switch out with out a socket. 1" is too small and 1 1/16 is too large. I cannot get a channel lock type of pliers in there to turn it. Does anyone know what socket size is needed to replace the pressure switch? I unplugged the wire connector for the pressure switch and it started and ran about 30 secs, then quit. Now will not start. Apparently, my generator is having another problem.
I have one with very low hours. It has very little gas in it but is old. It runs fine at half choke, but surges when turning the choke off. I emptied the carb bowl and cleaned it, sprayed some carb cleaner above the float, added carb cleaner to the fuel, and it runs somewhat better. Anyone have luck with Seafoam? Hoping to avoid taking the carb off.
On the 4000 EXL they put the oil pressure sensor in the worst spot ever, You cannot get in there to remove it or install a new one with any normal tools. Extremely frustrating and mind boggling. The oil filter is right in front of where that sensor is on the XL in this video. ... "engineers" 🤷🤦🤬

I have a Generac 4000 XL and the issue I’m having is the top outlet works but the bottom outlet does not work. What do you suggest
I could be wrong, but that looks like a regular oil pressure switch you can get at any auto parts store.
Hey bud, I would like to know is it OK for me to reach out to you? I need some help troubleshooting my generator.

Mine does not have an oil filter.. The oil drain plug is located below and to the left of the oil fill cap..
What type of oil did you use? The manual doesn't say anything about oil or capacity.
