  • Are you wondering why your GENERAC generator with COSense starts but won't keep running? Watch this video to find out why. We'll explain the problem and how to fix it. Don't waste another minute struggling with your generator and there's no need to take it to a shop.
    Thanks to @idennis75 & @Anthony Thorpe for pointing out how to fix the problem that @Generac® Residential Products won't.

    Man I can’t Thank You Enough, I’m in Houston and we just got hit by a hurricane. And we are without power, I went to Lowe’s also this morning 7-10-24 picked up the exact same generator and it happened on the 1st day. I saw your video and did exactly what you said and wala it’s running. Once again Thank You!!!

      What a shame! Generac has got to fix this. You’re the third person today with the exact same story. This so-called safety feature is going to kill someone. But I’m glad this was helpful and you were able to get it fixed. Great job taking care of things! We are just north of you and I’ve only had to deal with a few small power outages. Check into some of our videos on off grid solar so you can be ready next time. Stay safe down there.

      @@whitesabre9974 Thank you for the response. I did go through with the work after some reluctance. Yet, only to the point of removing the "control unit"/board. My capacitor was still in place. Yet, with removing the board, the generator is running great. Has gone for a solid 6 hours now with no issues. The on/off switch does not work, but I can carefully pull the spark plug wire or just starve it of fuel when I decide to shut it off. Hope you are able to get yours working 100%. Again, truly appreciate your response and wishing you restored power very soon. Let's hope that is the last storm for Houston for the season.

      That blue thing is an electrolytic capacitor. It is easy to obtain another new one with the full leads, and solder it through the holes on the board. You have to install it with the correct polarity though, which you might be able to figure out by comparing with how the similar smaller ones are installed.

    Yeah, looking a the stills in the video. You can see on the PCB that the gold is showing around the holes where the cap was. Now, look at the connector on the PCB. Solder flows up the leads. That is how the solder should have flowed up the leads of the cap.

    I have had to do this to 3 Dewalt generators all using the same Generac COSense garbage over the last year or so. I said f it and just cut the black wires and crimped them together. None of mine were the Capacitor, all of them had water corrosion on the board shorting them out, the conformal coating was not complete on any of them and that is the spots that corroded.

    • @EastTexasHomestead

    I have the same unit but won't start at all. Nothing when I pull. It was working one moment. Turned off. Topped with gas. Tried to turn back on. Nothing. Ran it for one storm. Then for 2 hours on the next storm. And that's it. Less than 50 hours. I'll check the cosense module but it's a different issue. Mine won't start at all compared to yours flashing and then stopping. Mines not flashing at all.
    Trying to think what the issue could be on a nearly new unit like yours.

    • @Darjan_Spasojevic

    • @marktomlinson3448
      @marktomlinson3448 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Disconnect the oil sensor switch and try it. If it runs, you either have too low oil or you need a new switch. This is a common problem with lots of equipment. The oil switch is in the same stop circuit as those 2 black wires. the switch shorts the wire to ground when it thinks that the oil is low, and that prevents the engine from running.

  • @jepcozenith40
    @jepcozenith40 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, that is an electrolytic capacitor. Depending on the solder it could start melting at 190F. Most at 800F(ish). Hopefully, that is not Texas hot. Looks like a cold solder joint. That is where the solder did not properly flow on the leads of the cap. So the cap is just touching the solder instead of adhering to it. Over time it fails. Falling off. Probably lead-free solder and poor quality control.

    So close... using an RPG to take out a bee. It was a potentially easy and cheap repair with the decapitated capacitor, IMHO. I guess the root cause of the failure is that whoever made that module, didn't care to secure the electronic components in glue or potty. Generators produce a lot of vibration and is the main reason why electronic components that are left "flapping in the wind" will eventually work its way out of the circuit board... one way or the other. People going this route ought to check local state laws on circumventing or disabling safety devices on generators. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the video.

    I liked the video, but my only problem is where you had your generator. It should be atleast 10 feet away from any structure. This is to help in case your generator should short out or catch fire. Muchless to reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

    • @EastTexasHomestead
      @EastTexasHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In a perfect world, that would be great. How do you run your generator out in the middle of your yard in the middle of a storm? I run mine on the covered porch of my barn, which is at least 10 feet from the door. It's >50ft from my home, where I would be using it.
