This past week, while driving in the Utah frost, Kalen hit a patch of ice, and her van flipped multiple times - leaving her without a home. Thankfully, she and her cats walked away from the event safely but Kalen's home and many of her belongings were not salvageable. Kalen lived the everyday hustle in a big city while pushing through her master's degree to become an English teacher. To get a break from the fast-paced lifestyle, this adventurous girl took a flight to New Zealand for a breath of fresh air to clear her mind. She lived in her car rental with a tent and quickly fell in love with the nomadic life! Upon returning to the states, Covid took its toll, and the next step was clear!
In her DIY van build, Kalen took an approach of functionality and a user-friendly design. There's a murphy bed that completely disappears during her workday and allows space for her office desk to fold down. The kitchen has a fold-up table connecting two countertops providing ample space for food prep. The cab is separated from the main living space, providing extra privacy and protection.
