  • Don’t make the same mistake a lot of potential buyers make. The new iPad Pro and MacBook Pro - both rock the M2 chip. And while there is a lot of overlap in terms of capabilities - there are some very specific reasons why one is better than the other. So let’s talk about the price of both devices, which is more portable, and the display quality. What about the typing experience on the M2 ipad Pro and the M2 MacBook Air - which is better? We’ll compare the camera and speakers, processing power and multitasking. And finally we’ll see how battery life, the ports and wireless connectivity stack up. So which is better? The M2 iPad Pro or the M2 MacBook Air?

11-inch (12.9 if you want something more similar to a 13-inch MBP) M2 4TB OLED with OSX would be a Music Dream Machine. Not sure if you can use E-GPU on iOS but you can on OSX so it would be killer. Not sure if my UAD Apollo | X Twin TB will work, I'm guessing not. I'm surprised someone hasn't hacked it yet. Just upgraded my Gen 1 iPad for a new 11-inch Pro. Looking forward to mobile Xbox and PS Gaming on it. Just need to snatch a Pro Controller for my PS5. Love the Xbox version but wish the Halo version was out when I bought my Gen 2 Xbox Pro Controller.
I'm not upgrading my 2014 13 inch MBP, Apples Quality sucks now. No thanks. I held off because of the Strip Screen but even with it gone now, you get past that Apple are date and it's like walking through a Mine Field.

I’m currently using an older iPad Air and experimenting with it being my daily driver and see how long I last without touching my MacBook Pro 15inch 2018. The great thing about the M chip iPads is stage manager, which I rolled my eyes at at first, but it’s come a long way and with iPadOS 17 you basically can move multiple windows around at once on your display freely, currently you can only have 4 on the display at once but you can have multiple stages kinda like Mission Control on the Mac, but I reckon that will increase pretty soon.
So far the iPad has been great, you can still get from A to B it’s just done a bit differently and once you adjust to it, it’s actually a really great piece of tech.

I'm lucky enough to have the M2 MBA (8GB/512GB) and the 12.9" iPad Pro M1 5G.
I bought the MBA to replace my iPad Pro, but despite having both of them to hand, when I need a mobile device, its the iPad Pro I pick up every time. Despite the frustrations of iPadOS. For file management on the iPad, I find File Browser incredibly useful, and I have a TS3+ TB3 dock that I can use with both of them.
I honestly thought I would use the MBA more than the iPP but that hasnt proved to be the case, somehow the iPP seems more robust in the Masgic Keyboard when chucked in my backpack.

Prices for apple products in Trinidad and Tobago (Caribbean) are always high, and you rarely get the latest model at retailers (except for phones). The easiest and cheapest way for us to get them is to just order them from apple or amazon and have it shipped to us here. The shipping cost is not exorbitant and there are no import taxes on commuting devices at the moment. In my case, the iPad is simply not suited to my workflow, as there are no reference managers like Mendeley for MS Office (really limited on iPad) and there are no data analysis suites or experiment design suites either (think of SPSS, ePrime, PsychoPy). I prefer the iPad for note taking and maybe light document editing, but anything more complex is simply adding more steps to complete it, which, in the end, is taking more time. This all comes to iPadOS closed nature, if there was a way to make it compatible with MacOS apps this would be solved, as the potential and power is there.

UK - I sold my 2018 12.9" iPad Pro and got the M2 MacBook Air 512Gb SSD version. No contest. The Mac is far better for my uses. Larger screen and I can now do basic things on Excel that I couldn't do with it on the iPad 'supposedly' Pro. The refresh rate makes no difference to me. I still use an iPhone 12 Pro Max so the 120 Hz vs 60Hz is BS for my uses. Do I miss the iPad Pro? Yes I do. Touchscreen and Apple Pencil is very useful. But the overall feel of it on my knee is not as good as the Mac. Overall I do everything on my lap so the Mac is far better and the fact I don't touch the screen means it stays cleaner for far longer. On the iPad, if they want to call something 'Pro' then it needs to be able to do basic Excel things that it just cannot do. I also had the 2018 version and the battery was hammered too.
512Gb Mac was £1,549 and if I wanted the M2 iPad Pro, Magic Keyboard, etc £1,978 so there was no way I was buying yet another keyboard for that. The Mac is overpriced but the iPad Pro, absolutely mental.

Regarding your questions re price, in France, as in UK, they use the dollar price but switch the currency…..this has been standard since the dawn of time. So, a 1200 USD phone youd pay 1200€ which amounts to an increase of 35-50% depending on conversion. There will always be an increase of 30% for txes. Ditto Italy and UK, whereas UK may be adjusting post-Brexit but count at least 20% increase. Also the trade-ins are insultingly less than US. We are morally obliged to sell and go to all the trouble via reputable resale or reconditioning sites to get a fair resale price, which we then pay for the service……

The conclusion on M2 (Pro) devices.... Not really, unless you desperately want Wifi6E over regular Wifi6
Since my internet speed is "only" 500MBit im still happy with Wifi6 on the 16" M1 Pro base model, the bigger issue is SSD size
I would rather buy an upgraded M1 Pro with 1TB SSD+ over a M2 Pro base model with 512GB SSD, but thats just my opinion.
In fact the M2 chips are slightly redesigned/optimized m1 chips, the M2 upgrade was not as spectacular, in general you can say (in the best case...) 20% more performance and 10% more efficiency. With a few exclusions ofc.... for example a regular M1 vs regular M2 is a bigger difference in video rendering etc since the basic M1 miss the media engine (aka dedicated de/encoders...)

I've run the M1 Air / M1 iPad Pro since M1 came out and, as a combo, incredibly useful for business work. Can't say it's a one or other type deal, I reached for each depending on the case. Since then I have upgraded to the M2 laptop but have kept the M1 iPad pro as I don't see any reason to upgrade the iPad. I'm sure I'll be reaching for one or the other again, for the next couple years, depending on the use case.

It depends very much what you do. But it is harder to utilize a faster SoC on iOS because it is just locked down and slightly worse for desktop uses, on purpose. You will probably fine with an older model. If you want extended display stage manager (fullscreen), they are adding that to the older models

Is it okay to charge my macbook using a socket adaptor?
I'm intending to buy my macbook in England, but live in Europe, so I'd charge it using a socket adaptor all the time. But is it okay?

Hello, I need help choosing a MacBook laptop. I work in graphic design and I’m looking for the ultimate beast for my job. Since MacBook prices are much higher here in Serbia compared to America, it’s harder for me to choose the right laptop that I’ll use for many years. Prices range from $1700 to $2500 and more converted to dollars. I’m considering both the MacBook Air and Pro versions. Due to the nature of my work, a more compact laptop with a smaller 13-14 inch display would be preferable. . I wouldI would appreciate your assistance in selecting a laptop. Warm regards from Serbia.

iPad Pro is better for media consumption, MacBook Air is better for work.
I have both, I use my iPad as a dual screen setup at work. It becomes a perfect portable work station.
Unless you use Apple Pencil, a tablet OS can not beat a full fledged OS with 15+ battery life.
Also, MBA is surprisingly more portable.
    I use a 16gb/1TB MBA, and have a
    8gb/512gb iPad Pro.
