My first G Shock was a 5600C I bought in 1994, and is still with me. Now I have several G Shocks, but love that first G like any other in my collection.
Great evolutionary video, thank you. I've got the DW-8300 which I've been giving a good old servicing over the last few days, now it's really sparkly. My son is amazing miniature model painter and kindly refreshed the G-Shock and Illuminator logos perfectly to match with the original colours. My only design gripes are that the buttons are very recessed which I think could have been better being far more prominent and would still be equally aesthetically pleasing. I also wish the backlight would stay on for double the length of time it does, especially important if you need to use other features such as the stop watch at night. For servicing and maintenance, everything comes apart with 16 x cross-head screws and you can easily clean every part of the inner and outer casing, wings and straps. The battery is a nice big CR2016. Overall, it's a very tough and not-so-little vintage timekeeping beast!
You all prolly dont care at all but does any of you know a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly forgot my account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me
@Lawson Conner thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im in the hacking process now. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I really miss my DW-8100. Purchased from The Sharper Image. It was huge. It was resin and metal. It was my first with the electroluminescent light. It had the funky heads or tails G on the dot matrix screen. It was super comfortable to wear. Too bad the resin cracked at the end 😥
WTF man so many nice looking watches. I din't have any idea about them. Generally i love the shape of Casio watches as i was a young kid in the 90's , and yesterday i bought my first G-SHOCK a brand new GW-M5610-1ER because of the 1983 style. I love these retro old styles. Man so beautiful watches. Sometimes i watch them not for the the time just for the look of them. I also i have the f105w. One thing i like very much about the f105 and f91 and the other of this series , is that they have the most loud hourly and alarm sound for so cheap watches, and i love loud alarm watches. Sometimes when i am 2 steps from sleep , my F105 make the hourly beep sound and wakes me up hard, this is a torture but ok. Nice video by the way sir, you have made very good job .
As always a great video, I had a hand me down 5500 at the turn of the nineties, sadly lost it circa 2004, it had a couple of battery changes and that was it, made me a G fan for life, currently own a GWM 5610, once again thanks.
many of these models still available in the market with some slightly minor iteration with a different prefix models number, one example: DW-5600C with DW5600E
i owned a dw6800 as a child and i beat the hell out of it. threw it high up the air and let it fall on concrete. it was tough as hell. i lost that watch a long time ago, now i want one again.
Wish Casio would 'also' make a slightly bigger DW5600 at 46.5mm wide up from it's 42.8. When looking down on my wrist it looks fine but when looking in the mirror i can't help feeling... it's just a bit too small. A Skmei 1134 lookalike is 50mm wide (similar to the GX56) and at that size it's just too big (like a mini TV screen on your wrist). Having tried both and looking in the mirror there's a definite size sweet spot right in between the two. A slight size increase would still fit under a sleeve, remain a smallish/medium classic G-Shock, but look less retro and more modern-era masculine. The venerable and iconic submariner has it's bigger Sea dweller so why not a slightly bigger 5600.
I hope Casio will reissue a few of these.Buying second hand the very old ones is risky due to resin rot, high price and no available parts.Sooner or later i'm shure that after market parts will be available for the old models.Maybe Wilma Gifts will produce a wider range
and the casio f30? There is not a single video and it is a watch that came out great. I remember the year 92. The buttons were made of rubber and weighed less than a feather. They are hardly found anymore. And new much more difficult.
I've got two of the currently available models - I paid about $45 for each One is for everyday use that includes grinding and welding and the other for getting dressed up, like when I go to Walmart. I re-set them on the 1st of the month - they each gain like 10 seconds
Awesome video with a lot of information and great shots of each of the watches. it would be interesting to know how the movie role of the watches developed
I love the 5610 it looks like the original from 83 aswell just doesnt have the screwback and isnt made in japan but in thailand but suits smaller wrist sizes compared to the 5600 and is lightweight when compared to the 5000 and has the best features in such a small and sturdy package. Iv had mine over two years as a daily beater and it is the one and only watch anyone will ever need. No need to set the time or change batteries ever no nonsense accurate time as it updates daily. What a steal. It also has a battery saver mode and a light feature that turns on when at viewing angles which is so clever and works everytime. I just leave mine in the garden twice a year for it to charge the battery as ots come down the medium and now for the past 4 months has been on high so the solar power function also works really well.
Got one as a gift a 5000 in1983/4 when the battery died I threw it away! Got another one think that was 5200 again threw it away then same story with the 5600c and on it goes? Guess I should have had new batteries fitted looking at the prices now!

I didn't realize their was so many different square models. I always see people wearing the round ones.
Yup, they are a bit "retro" looking and the large round ones have become more popular over the years, but I still love them more than other models

The DW-5600C always reminds me of Keanu Reeves' "Speed" just like what it's mentioned on this video. I always dream of having this when I was a kid.
I think the 5600 series has been the longest continuous selling G-Shock line since 1987 to 2023 and beyond

The only g shock i like is the square
I wish for Casio to revive and reissue the DW-5200, as it was thanks to that, the G-Shock became mainstream and well-beloved to today.

Do you know what is the purpose of the four "dimples" on the watch face corners (also present on the strap)?
Pretty sure there’s no purpose to those dimples other than styling.
I have two a black tile and a original tile. I love G shocks a Dw 600E and a DW 5610su
Was there ever a part 2 of this?
been looking for the DW8160.. can't buy one anywhere
eBay is your best bet
I'd like it if they brought out one that didn't have all
the logos and emblems and advertizing.
Put that stuff on the packaging or
