Just bought one thinking i get the updated model. Wondering if it was a mistake. As far as I can tell the green backlight is sleaker on the old model. I can live the the US format date and I don't care to see the time on the stopwatch. Am I missing any other differences?
I remember the television commercial in the 80's of a g shock being used as a hockey puck. tough watch! I have a 5610 and love that it's battery never needs replacement. My other watches need almost yearly replacement
Thanks for the review! Just bought my first G-Shock (GW-M5610U) to celebrate my first month at work. I used to wear Casio V-006 and F-91W back in college.
I purchased the negative display version first and a few weeks later the positive display one. Both are great watches and after 4years of use here in the UK they have never let me down. They are built to last and are a must to have in your watch collection. With them being solar powered and Multiband 6 they are totally accurate. They are suitable also for a smaller size wrist too.
Got the negative display. I liked the design much more with the all black display. But: hardly to read in low light. Maybe i buy this red one model later, too 😅😅😅
@keithw361 I like both but wear the positive display the most and the negative display one when doing military duties. Both watches are totally accurate and being so light when wearing them are very comfortable. They are ideal field watches imo.
I sold a gm2100 after 6 months for a few reasons, mainly legibility and bought the 5610 and could not be happier with it. Perfect everyday watch, extremely comfortable, cool retro look and good price. Great review👍
This watch has really blown me away since getting it a week ago. My first ever watch was a GD-100 which I got just because my dad had one. I was 17 and didn’t even realize there were other options. Last year at 30 years old I got heavily into mechanical watches. Grabbed a Hamilton, some Seikos, etc. Eventually I started buying some cheap Casios along the way. F-91Ws, W93H, AE1200, and eventually a G- SHOCK DW-5600. These digital watches have 95% replaced the mechanical watches on my wrist and I’ve even got rid of most of those. The F-91W and the DW-5600 were the watches that I really fell in love with the most. I love the lightweight, comfortable, retro cool F-91. I love the rugged, simplistic badass 5600 in its iconic square silhouette. The GW-M5610u is 100 steps above the 5600. I absolutely freaking love this watch. It’s jam packed with useful features. Tough Solar and Multi-Band 6 are amazing features to have in a $100 watch. The backlight is fantastic, the world times and alarms are almost excessive. The solar panels in the watch give the display this interesting change of color in different lighting. The lug to lug is slightly more squat then the 5600 and it looks like it was made for my 7” wrist. I’m completely taken with this G-SHOCK. If you’re thinking about it, GET IT!!
Been collecting gshocks for several years. I have 13 different variations of the 5600/5610/5000. This is by far my favorite color variation. Mostly because it looks like the first 5000 from 1983
It really does. Minus the brick pattern around the display this watch reminds me the most of the DW5000C. I wasnt going to get one of these because i have a bunch of squares and a GWX-5600 but i think i need to add this to the collection. I love the upgraded module.
Nice to see that Casio has corrected the small issues the older model had. They also improved the sensitivity of how the light comes on when you move your wrist. The old model wouldn't always work. The LED light is also a welcome update since the EL back lights used to fade after a while or become dim if used heavily. Just ordered one, my old model is 5 years old and still works fine, but it's still nice to have a fresh G Shock 😄 I should also add that no watch will last indefinitely. Rubber seals will shrink and dry out, resin bezels and straps will dry rot and crack. Things that kill G-Shocks quickly are exposure to constant sweat and oils, anything corrosive, lots of exposure to salt water. This all breaks down the rubber gaskets and resin parts of the watch in a few years time. My co-worker for example has had his DW5600 for only 2 years and yet his bezel is starting to crack and his strap keeper has broken off. His strap and bezel also have that deep black shinny look that indicates the materials are about to fail. Meanwhile my DW5600 is 7 years old and still looks fine except for the typical wear from use.
I love mine. It’s got everything. It feels like a quality watch in terms of the materials. It’s so accurate I set my other watches to it. 200m water resistance. GMT features. Looks great. And £70! That’s a lot of watch for the price.
Just bought one of these awesome G-Shocks.....To join the 23 other G,s I already own.....Love this Module, I have removed it from the Resin Strap / Bezel....And it now lives in a "Virtual Armour" replacement......It is absolutely stunning......One of the best watches I have ever purchased.....In a collection of over 350 !!!!!......It,s also the perfect Travelers Watch....Showing both your home time and the time in your current location together on the Dial......If you,re not after Thermometers, Barometers and Compasses......This is the one to get.
I love mine! What I like best about this watch is that it’s totally dependent on itself only. It doesn’t connect with a smart phone, which is what I was looking for, yet it keeps pinpoint accurate time. No plugging it up every few days and doesn’t go obsolete in 3 years. I want a smart phone and a RELIABLE watch. The only thing that I don’t like is that I can’t see the date in world time mode without going back to Home Screen. I wish Casio would have fixed that issue with the update. Regardless, I have the negative display version, but both are awesome! Buy it, guys! You won’t regret it!
Wow!! It works!! Now I don’t have to sacrifice my date in WT mode. I just swap the time out to whichever time zone I want to observe, then move back to Home Screen and now I’ve got my WT zone on Home Screen with the date! This watch just keeps getting better and better! Thanks again!!!
It's nice to see that Casio has corrected literally all the flaws from the previous model, this updated module is definitely the best buy. I see people complaining about LED lighting, but that’s also an upgrade to the old EL. It may not look as attractive as EL, but in the long run it is a better solution if it has an LED, it has more operating hours and less energy requirements compared to EL
Exactly. People always find something to complain about. I used to have a DW5600e with the old 1545 module. I can say for sure the EL back light does indeed start to dim with use.
@@RobertNES816 True, I agree. I personally own both models, but the old module is a collector's item on my shelf, while this one with the new module I wear every day. I got used to the LED light, so even now it looks better to me personally than EL
The old EL just looks better and how much battery do you really save? Do you only have to change the battery every 10 years rather than every 7 years? I dont see how it could be that much considering it's solar and average use of the light isnt a lot.
@@maxmeier532 As I said, EL looks better, but it is not better in the long term. It's not just a matter of battery consumption. EL degrades over time, in the end everyone has something they like more and something less. If someone is bothered by the LED, try to find a model with an old module and the problem will be solved. I retired mine with the old module, now it is a collector's item. And as for whether I will have the battery for 7 or 10 years, I choose 10. G-Shock is not a watch that I wear for beautiful lighting, I wear it for its endurance.
I wish they included multiple CountDown timers. Otherwise, it's perfection. Mod it with off the market titanium bezel/bracelet, and you got yourself very nice watch indeed.
I wear my watch high also, right on the bend of the wrist in fact, and because of that I've had issues with turning on a function that I didn't want, but I've never had that problem with any casio I own, that's one of my favorite things about casio
This is a great watch, but I also like the DW5600e - the display on that cheaper watch is better than any other, including the 5610U. At angles you can read it, the 5610 blurs
I had the non U version. Had it for 2 years and loved it. Except for 3 things. The light wasn’t on for long enough, the date was the wrong way round (Europe) and when I used the timer, I couldn’t see the current time. This model solves all these issues so I upgraded yesterday. I sold my old one and don’t regret it 1 bit.
Thank you for a very thorough review of the model’s functions. Everybody should have this watch. I also own the AWG-M100 for the times I would rather wear an analog piece on my wrist. Cheers.
Ye the u version is right up my street, here in England i like the option of being able to change the date around from month to day to day to month, and the 3 second blue LED light as well, lasts longer than the green El light
Been wearing this style for 40 years. This upgrade has just brought it decades more functionality. Great icon retro design. At the time I write this, you can get one for £80! Sale price. Bargain
Great review! I just recently returned a Casio ProTrek. I found it way too big with that temp sensor on the left side. Also the buttons would dig into my arm a little bit too. But I could never get the atomic time keeping working. I’m also in Vancouver and I tried different areas throughout the city. It just didn’t work. Showed L1 for low reception and then ERR and would never sync. Have you had any issues with the 5610? I’m considering getting this one instead.
My 5610 works just fine .. I don't need to update to the 5610U .. The auto LT works when it's dark .. it doesn't work if your in a well lit area would be a waste of time 🤔🙄 .. the EL back light is fine also no complaints .. had the watch since 2015 .. multi-band 6 .. no scratches ... it's my go to watch everyday .. :)
Although this corrects almost all my gripes with my 5610, it looks too much like it to justify the upgrade. I can see myself getting the 5000u instead, even though it costs twice as much.
@@toddsmith8608 The old module was also Tough Solar and atomic, but had an EL backlight, no European date notation, only English on the day notation, and no current time during stopwatch/ timer use.
I had the rangeman. It is this watch and a compass altimeter and thermometer. But I loved the classic look and needed this one too. Now no other G has the same value. They set the bar too high 😅
In your opinion, what is the wrist size range for this watch? I have a 7 1/4” wrist and I think it looks a little small on my wrist. Still, I love the watch.
its definitely the best ever casual watch you can get! If you can spend more money and suggest taking a look at the GW-5000U, mich better rubberband, screwback case design and no red lining on the front.
I bought mine in 2010 its the best watch I've ever had the only thing I have had to do is change the band twice if it ever dies ill be buying a new one
I have just picked up on to add to my casio collection I have the Bluetooth version also which has a negative display which is hard to see but it looks good I have a few atomic time watches only one are two will pick up the signal when we holiday in Jamaica I will take my new one two see how good it is but when your on holiday accrete time keeping is not what you should be not be worried about eny way but since I have been retired time doesn't bother me but I do like my watches the be full of feathers it a boys and the toys thing
I'm in love with this watch. However I wonder about the whole solar power thing... I don't want to worry about battery levels and exposing the watch to enough sunlight. It can get dark for extended periods of time where I live during the winter and I'm also not an outdoorsy kind of person. Will the watch charge enough just by wearing it in an office environment all day with no direct sunlight? And is it true that with solar power the battery never needs to be changed with this watch?
Great review!👍🏼 I own a few G-Shocks….Ga700-BR, GW9400 (rangeman) and a G7900 (rescue red) but the 5610-1 is my next purchase! The atomic time keeping is awesome! I live in N.-B. Canada and according to the graphics I’m right at the edge of Colorado tower range, my watch (rangeman) syncs almost every night!! ✌🏼😎👍🏼
I got myself a limited edition New Era/G-Shock DW5600NE-1 to add to my collection of G-Shocks. Looks perfect with more formal wear. The one your reviewing isn't as bling as the New Era but has far more features. Great review Pete!
I'm new to this world and how is this model different from a model like m5610e/r btw the most important thing to me is swapping the day and month position and be able to see time wether we're in timer or stopwatch mode
Bought this watch and set it up turned on the hourly alarm shot it being set but can’t hear it Is it me or do I have a defective unit Thanks for your help
It's a brilliant watch...just three things - backlight, viewing angle, and strap. All are ok rather than great, but as everything else is superb, it still gets a 9/10.
I have the GW-M5610 and it is a fantastic watch with or without the U upgrade, if you put it on a Combi bracelet it simply takes this watch up another level...stay safe
nice I went back and forth between the two models but ultimately figured I'd go this direction, but it was a tough call as I like the backlight on the non-U model better
Greetings from North Vancouver! 🇨🇦 Having watched your excellent review, I am really considering buying this G-Shock; but am afraid that it may be too complicated for my 63 year-old brain!
I love North Van! I'm in Surrey so not too far away. I think you'd have a really easy time with it, I go over alllll of the details and such in this video, but if you just want more or less basic timekeeping I can't recommend this watch enough
@@sneakypetesproductreviews First off, Happy New Year Pete! Thanks for taking the time to respond. It is awesome that such an excellent TH-cam reviewer is local 🙂. I will definitely be watching your other reviews also. You have a true knack for this, so please keep going! The price on Amazon is quite steep, so I was just looking at the Casio G-Shock website and the model number is slightly different: GWM5610-1. It seems to be the same watch, though.
@@edteach3r there seems to be a plethora of very similar models, all with very similar names which doesn't make it easier. I got mine from Warriors & Wonders in Vancouver which might be an option for you!
I like the upgrades on this watch, the only flaw is the volume of the alarms and countdown timer, they are useless. Put the watch on, forget hearing it, even putting it up to your ear, even placing it on the table in front, can BARELY hear it. I have to use my phone for these, but I don't always have my phone with me when I'm doing chores and things.

If you mean the negative display (reverse display of this model) I totally agree, I find them really hard to see
Is the watch suitable for formal and business suits?
its definitely the best ever casual watch you can get! If you can spend more money and suggest taking a look at the GW-5000U, mich better rubberband, screwback case design and no red lining on the front.
Nice I’ll check it out. I love the red lining myself!
@Cameras, Clocks & Watches yah I love the pop of colour on the face of this watch, not too much but just enough
Thank you!
I just bought a DW 5000-1 same colour but with the screw down caseback...
I bought mine in 2010 its the best watch I've ever had the only thing I have had to do is change the band twice if it ever dies ill be buying a new one
nice which band did you change to, same one or something new?
@@sneakypetesproductreviews the same one because the snap after about 4 years
I have just picked up on to add to my casio collection I have the Bluetooth version also which has a negative display which is hard to see but it looks good I have a few atomic time watches only one are two will pick up the signal when we holiday in Jamaica I will take my new one two see how good it is but when your on holiday accrete time keeping is not what you should be not be worried about eny way but since I have been retired time doesn't bother me but I do like my watches the be full of feathers it a boys and the toys thing
I got one.Its awesome!!
Love mine too
Outstanding video. Thanks
And is it true that with solar power the battery never needs to be changed with this watch?
mine keeps a charge just fine with general wear
Nope.
Nice review & walk through!
Thank you!
Great review!👍🏼
I own a few G-Shocks….Ga700-BR, GW9400 (rangeman) and a G7900 (rescue red) but the 5610-1 is my next purchase! The atomic time keeping is awesome! I live in N.-B. Canada and according to the graphics I’m right at the edge of Colorado tower range, my watch (rangeman) syncs almost every night!!
✌🏼😎👍🏼
Ooh nice I want a Rangeman next!
I got myself a limited edition New Era/G-Shock DW5600NE-1 to add to my collection of G-Shocks. Looks perfect with more formal wear. The one your reviewing isn't as bling as the New Era but has far more features. Great review Pete!
*YOU'RE
Just bought the new gwm5610U
just a god tier beater watch
Is resin band comfortable enough?
Super comfortable
Best review, you should have 100k plus subs 👍
Is there any difference between this GW-M5610U and the GW-M5610U-1ER?
Subtle from what I understand
Just received one yesterday
Nice choice, I wear mine daily!
@@sneakypetesproductreviews wearing my today!
How much the price
Hello. Is there a buzzer function (while alarm is ringing)?
Audio only
I'm new to this world and how is this model different from a model like m5610e/r
btw the most important thing to me is swapping the day and month position and be able to see time wether we're in timer or stopwatch mode
Very cool. Great channel, good luck sir.
Thank you kindly
I have the negative display version. It's great. But I want to buy the positive display version also! 💪 🍻 🎊 🇷🇴, thinking about it.
I love everything about the negative display, except how hard it can be to read sometimes
@@sneakypetesproductreviews that's the beauty of it! 😅. It looks such in a great way!
Bought this watch and set it up turned on the hourly alarm shot it being set but can’t hear it
Is it me or do I have a defective unit
Thanks for your help
tough to say, I mean if it’s on you should hear it
Awesome review! Thanks Pete!
Thanks for watching!
I love it love it love it. But it gets boring if you can’t swap it out now and again. It’s my favorite G
Variety is key!
Does the GM2100 have the recessed A button like the 5600? That's one of the only things I don't like about that watch.
It is
It's a brilliant watch...just three things - backlight, viewing angle, and strap. All are ok rather than great, but as everything else is superb, it still gets a 9/10.
love mine!
Better than automatic.
Stay safe?! From what?! It's a watch review.
@@gymbobjoe1091 many people have walked, run, and drive into objects while looking at their watch.
Great Video :-D
Glad you enjoyed it
My ride or die watch.
What is the difference between 5610-U and 5610-1?
Only one thing I expect Casio to do. Since uses an LED, maybe could put one with a color like orange, green, blue..
Kinda prefer wearing this beauty over my gwg2k
This is my overall favourite Casio I own!
I would love a louder volume for sure
Will the auto light come on when I’m scooping trail mix into my mouth?
Haha it may, but you can turn it off in settings
It is really nice Casio watches. I like it most.. Thank You.
Glad you like it!
