Yeonmi, I don’t think it can be overstated just how important you are. You’re a beacon of light in a dark world. I have to say, I’m embarrassed to share a country with the petulant, narcissistic, man-children who’ve marginalized and dismissed you, but, I know none of them could ever or will ever stop you. I hope you know there are more Americans who respect and admire you than those who love themselves before anything and anyone else.
We’re never out of the fight, you’re an inspiration and I know that when my daughter gets older, that she’ll look to you with the same admiration I do, so, thank you for that. God bless you.

Not quite, because North Korea is a dictatorship. The American Left is authoritarian, but they don't have ONE megalomaniacal narcissist who demands the people's allegiance to himself personally. Left-wing authoritarianism relies on intimidation so that people self censor out of fear of punishment, not from a dictator, but from the mob.

I don’t even know how to respond to Yeonmi’s story because it is so special that she survived her many ordeals. I have travelled extensively throughout the Far East, including South Korea and the obligatory visit to the DMZ. I have great respect for the different cultures in these regions and realise that they have historical good and bad points. Yeonmi has observed the fake victim hood fir what it is, but I’m afraid that its supporters really have no idea what real oppression is. I wish Yeonmi and her new family a successful and happy life. Another milestone for Megyn’s integrity as an honest Jane reporter.

I am also quite well traveled, and I feel when she says: "its literally the best country in human history" that is where Yeonmi could simply stand firm. I feel that we as Americans need to hear from her how this horrible catastrophic regime (maybe the worst in recent and current "history") should be liberated. It rubs me the wrong way because it is really a detour that distracts from the bottom line. Bottom line is that since the parts of America that are outstanding are America's ingenuity in ways to help others in very very desperate situations, why fan the spark of paranoia?

Megyn, thank you so much for sharing this brave young woman’s story with the world. As someone born in the 1970’s who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s; if you had asked me if the type of living hell this woman has described seeing and experiencing in North Korea and China could exist in any other country, I would have said that it was not likely. And certainly it would never be possible in the United States of America. But today, in post Covid-19 America where The Great Reset agenda and the delusional narrative of Klaus Schwab and other like minded people who are pushing this New World Order and one world government, the possibility of the world she describes escaping from now seems not only a possibility for America but exactly the future we’re destined to experience unless we make drastic changes very soon. My greatest fear is that too many of us who grew up in a world without the internet have forgotten the freedom that’s possible without being connected to the world 24/7/365. I can’t emphasize enough the importance of the world being exposed to the reality of what she lived through so that we can not only put a stop to it as we did in Nazi Germany but learn from her experiences so we are not doomed to repeat it.

I second Lily Tang Williams! Not to simplify her at all because to talk about her would require something like an MK interview as you suggested, but all I gotta say: Lily is a fire cracker and pistol!
We so so need these individuals to help bring this nation back to what it was before.

I am so grateful to have heard Yeonmi’s story and hope others can open their minds and hearts to listen to her. Yes!! I traveled to East Berlin, the Soviet Union, and Poland in 1980. The dark, colorless, drab clothing was so noticeable. My color photos look like B&W. I especially noticed the depressed look on the faces of the locals in East Berlin as our tourist bus passed by after passing through Checkpoint Charlie (C). I could only imagine what they may have been thinking as 'freedom' drove right by them on the street in their country where they were held captive. As we left, large mirrors were rolled under our bus to ensure that nobody was clinging underneath, trying to gain freedom. It was quite an experience and one I'll never forget.

East Germany in 1978. I went from Ireland to Weimar to visit family. Machine guns at the border of West and East Germany…my parents had to buy a required amount of their useless money. The buildings were colorless…clothes were also dull and colorless…my cousins wanted Levi Jeans…it was their dream to own Levi Jeans!!! They could not leave. They watched out for neighbors who might inform on them if they were too loud or happy.
American young people do not know what struggle and hardship is. It starts with the parents wanting to give them everything and then they go to colleges where their “oppression” is reinforced.

Unfortunately, by staying in their echo chambers people are becoming more and more ignorant. The lack of freedom of speech and bandaging problems make everything even worse. I also agree that students do not know history. The price for this ignorance is very high. Yeonmi, thank you for sharing this story. I really feel for you and understand where you are coming from. My father served in South Korea during the Korean War. For years he felt that it had all been for nothing; that America had failed. I showed him a nighttime map of Korea that showed the dramatic difference between the North and South parts of Korea. I talked to him about America'a role in keeping South Korea from being overtaken and ending up like North Korea. I think he began to take some pride in having participated in that war for the first time. It's, of course, so sad and disappointing that it ended the way it did, with the country divided and North Korea becoming such a horrible place for the people of that country. I didn't realize before listening to this interview just how horrific life is there. Thank you, Megyn, for bringing Yeonmi on your show to tell her story. I'll be ordering her book.
