Maybe round about 120 - 130 + Playstation 2 (european) games. 90% of this are carefully selected. At first I was never that much into Playstation in general. But like you mentioned, there are a ton of really great games for the systems of all genres.
I currently own 46. Technically 43 since 3 games I own both the European and Japanese versions but I have 42 European and 4 Japanese. My collection used to be bigger but I've sold a bunch of PS2 games in my lifetime.
Not knowing your collection, I'd say one of my favourite hidden ps2 gems is Gungrave Overdose (sequel) a topnotch action platformer with great dark humour
I had a really rough and frustrating day at work today and was so happy to see you uploaded another hidden gems video for my favorite console. You just made my day:) Rock on!
Can also heavily recommend: Ape Escape Series, Tim Burtons Nightmare Before Christmas, Destroy all Humans, Glass Rose, Shadow of Rome, Musashi Legend, Tokobot Plus: Mysteries of Karakuri, Gregory Horror Show, Gitaroo Man, Headhunter Redemption, Samurai Western, Under The Skin, Legend of Sayuki, Raging Blades, Splatter Master, Taito Collection 2
I would recommend the original Headhunter over Redemption. Redemption was far too long and bland for it's own good. It was completely monotonous compared to the original and the way they changed the gameplay made it way too clunky. Wall sticking and waving target reticles made the game more tedious than necessary.
MJR, I always appreciate your genuine enthusiasm for games. Thank you for all that you do and please never stop. Love your All Gen Gamers podcast. Thank you MJR!
Okage: Shadow King is ABSOLUTELY a hidden gem. It has to be one of my favorite games of all times, it has a very special place in my heart. The very fact you mentioned it has gotten me as your subscriber. Thank you!
MetalJesusRocks I really dig the quality of your videos! How long does it usually take you to edit these videos together? I have been playing around with some new software and the editing takes quite a while, lol.
For me Wild Arms 4 was criminally underrated, such a unique and fun combat system. Maybe not a hidden gem but one i would like to see talked about more
I'd agree that Wild ARMS 4 had a really cool battle system, but the storytelling and exploring elements were downright horrid. I felt like it was trying for FFX's linear 'set-piece to set-piece' approach, but it fell flat on its face. By comparison, Wild ARMS 3 (probably my favorite in the series) had a much less dynamic battle system, but at least it had a lot of dungeons and monsters to fight, plus a script that didn't make you want to shove your face into broken glass. I haven't played the fifth installment yet, but I've heard that it's another mixed bag like WA4. For me, the real underrated surprise amongst JRPGs was Suikoden V. It was certainly not perfect, but definitely a big, beautiful game with a nice story that allowed the series to close out its console life on a high note.
Yeah I enjoyed Wild Arms 4 a lot. I've played through all 5 of the main numbered series. Never played XF or Alter Code F. Either 3 or 5 is my favorite. The grid system introduced in WA4 was great and was further refined for 5.
MichaelBtheGameGenie, no, I can not agree with Wild Arms 4 because it took away a lot of what made the Wild Arms series great. However, Wild Arms 5: 10th Anniversary Edition, Wild Arms 3, and Wild Arms: Alter Code F/Wild Arms 1 are good games. Another criminally overlooked JRPG would be Rogue Galaxy. Sure, it had a lot of flaws (and if I bought Level 5, I would force them to fix said flaws and expand the game even more), but, for what it is worth, it is still a pretty solid JRPG title. Lumines Plus and Meteos also do not get enough love and the same thing is true for DT Carnage and Fire Pro Wrestling Returns/Fire Pro Wrestling R.
Pax Humana Ditto on Rogue Galaxy. I pre-ordered that nonsense my last year of college. Amazing game even now, even if it is the same story as Star Wars: Episode IV. Plus, Corey Matthew's brother does the voice for Jaster!
If you do Part 3 you should look into Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. One of the best RPGs for PS2. Great art style, very original story, and addictive gameplay.
@@gamingcomicanimation its no longer a hidden gem once its decendents makes the past one popular .... so when he mentioned yakuza and nier in one of his past videos im sitting there like its not a hidden gem everyone knows about it now .... thats like saying earthbound is a hidden gem its like fuck yourself lol no its not i dont care if it used to be a hidden gem its no longer a hidden gem once its popular enough a used to be hidden gem does not count as a hidden gem so your game does not count as a hidden gem
Mobile Suit Gundam: Zeta Gundam vs Gundam is definately a hidden gem for the ps2 and GameCube. Its got great graphics, good arcade gameplay, awesome voice acting from the english dubs of the anime, tons of unlockables, up to four players in multiplayer, a story mode which allows you to play as all the characters from both sides from the anime. Its just a real great gem in my small collection of ps2 games. Metal Jesus, please add this too your own collection and feature it on your next ps2 hidden gems video.
It's nice to know that Gungriffon Blaze's controls can be gotten used to; I gave up on it after five minutes because of the control scheme. And I had a blast with Disaster Report. Great games for this console.
No mention of Steambot Chronicles in either of your hidden gems videos , but you should definitely check it out. It's a quirky action RPG made by Irem that involves steam powered robots called Trotmobiles. It has very similar controls to Armored Core. There are loads of options to customize your trotmobile and really make it feel like your own. There are also a lot of different paths the story can take based on your choices. Definitely worth checking out if you like weird JRPGs.
Thanks for suggesting Primal. Always thought it was crap but when you described it as a blend of Tomb Raider and Legacy of Kain, I jumped in and bought a copy.
LiplessStraw I wish my local Gamestop's had more complete copies left of PS2 games. Instead almost all of them are those generic cases and not covers or manuals...
Thats true mate. I'm german aswell and I'm going for a massive PS2 collection. But I do alot of imports from US and Japan because I like the Covers alot more (the blue PAL covers are fugly)
I loved Disaster Report. Picked it up years ago for like 2 dollars. I loved that there were multiple endings depending on choices you made and if you helped certain characters or not. I still need to go back and do all the endings.
A favorite of mine from PS2 era is "Shadow of Rome" from Capcom.. I just loved the gladiator arena battles in that game.. would be awesome if they made sequel for Ps4 with online gameplay!
Its been about 3 years that this was uploaded, but I just want to say you are spot on with Maximo and Okage. I picked them up on your recommendation and they have become some of my favorite games from the system. I hope you find more to share with us.
Used to play war of the monsters versus with a friend of mine when he introduced to me, many great memories. The maps were amazing, that game was ahead of its time.
yeah level 5 said they started working on it lie a year ago but they use a lot of their resources to work on other games so it may take a while :/ either way im glad its happening, I cant wait to see the finished product.
Klonoa 2 Lunatea's Veil was actually my first PS2 game I bought with the PS2 slim console back in the day, and I still have it, and still love the game itself. :3
I don't know if you had mentioned it before i'm sure you have I just can't remember, but the shadow hearts series is a very underrated series in my opinion. I don't see many people talking about it other than a few of my very good friends. :P
The Maximo and Klanoa titles are indeed fantastic. But can they really be considered "hidden"? I always believed it to be a rather popular title. Of course it is your own personal subjective list. Who am I to judge.
Ahh yes I remember Mister Mosquito from back in the day. The only reason my friend bought it was because on the back of the box it had an ingame screen shot of a chick in the bathtub, and thats the only reason he bought it because he thought he might see some boobage. ahh yes teenage days
First of all, kudos on your channel i like it a lot. Some hidden gems you missed: Kya Dark Lineage, The Mark of Kri, Rygar The legendary Adventure, Extermination, Ghosthunter and God Hand. Keep the good work up
I'm not sure if you covered these games but that games that come to mind are Extermination, Red Faction, and Onimusha series especially the first installment because there was a segment that reminds me of horde mod in Gears of War. Back in the day I prefered first person shooters that had an online bot mode and Red Faction I would say is one of the best games I've played besides Syphon Filter 2.
Does Dark Cloud 2 count??? I dunno if this is one that simply came under people's radar since it's by Level-5, and we had no idea what this game was about when we first got it 11 years ago. By far one of our best purchases, and a great introduction to rpg for newcomers.
DanQew I think I have another series of games! Mobile Suit Gundam: Federation vs Zeon Mobile Suit Gundam Vs Zeta Gundam Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space Mobile Suit Gundam: Journey to Jaburo Mobile Suit Gundam: Zeonic Front I own the first 3 in the list, and they're awesome! P.S. I'm not sure if Zone of the Enders 1 and 2 count, seeing as they got a PS3 HD Collection Release a few years ago. However, NO ONE I talked to ever heard of those games.
I THIN THEY DO COUNT(oops caps): -so not popular enough that the hd versions didnt sell enough and thus we wont see a zoe before long -now ppl will go to the hd and collectors will go to war with each other for the OGs
DanQew Yeah, I have like a sizeable backlog of PS2 and PS3 games I have yet to play/finish, plus PS2 games I actually wanna get (including 4 of the games mentioned in the video). Oh yeah, I think I know another series of games that MAY count: Dot Hack. I have all 4 games of the original story arc, and I STILL haven't been able to play them. Also, would Dragon Quest VIII also count???
Nemo003 my problem with dot hack is they are old enough to still obey the obsolete shitty japanese rpg ways which is tons of meaningless fighting and weak to horribly weaker *save the world* story bullshit. so not for me because i watched the tv series and were horribly disatisfyied so i like the art, but that's about it.
Shadow of Memories/Destiny is a great adventure game. Gregory Horror Show is another great gem with very unique gameplay. Gitaroo Man is my favourite rhythm game and it's a great challenge. The PS2 has more hidden gems than any other console by far, amazing system!
You should check out: - B.Boy the game - Urban Reign - The Red Star - Gradius V - Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the north Star - The Bouncer - Ghost Hunter - Cold Winter - Black - Viewtiful Joe - Gungrave Overdose
My all time favorite PS2 game is a pretty unknown gem called Steambot Chronicles. It's a sandbox style, steam punk, mech RPG. One of my all time favorite games, period.
Its pretty good hack & slash with a Gothic design and graphics. You control deffirent "legions" of monsters which either attack or defend you. Also an RPG element to it.
I love my PS 2. I got it with controllers and three games for 5 dollars. It works perfect. I took it apart and cleaned it too. Now I'm buying the games Metal is suggesting. Your a great channel host Metal, I watch your videos all the time, and I'm 53 years old!
Thank you so much for this video. I got three of the PS2 games you showed in your first PS2 hidden gems video so I can't wait to play more. I've been waiting forever for a second one.
Hey Metal Jesus! I love watching your hidden gems episodes, and iv noticed that there is one game that i have played way too much and i think it would be a good game to try out, or include on a future list, and thats Roadtrip Adventure. You may already have it, but if not, defenetly pick it up. Great soundtrack, huge world to explore, customize cars, become the president, get a job in the game... omg just so much to do man.
la pucelle tactics. its got a pretty gripping storyline. the art is pretty good for a turn based tactical rpg of the time. and the list of obtainable characters is in the hundreds. its developement system is pretty cool too. its one of my personal all time favorites
War of the Monsters! I love that game. It was so well made for a relatively unknown game. In fact, it made me a little disappointed when I finally played Rampage for the first time and realized it wasn't nearly as in-depth.
What I enjoy about your channel is you’re indiscriminate when it comes to the type of games you play and the systems you play them on. I see a fair amount of channels that only focus on rpgs or survival horror, same with the systems there’s a lot of channels out there that only care about covering the new systems or only old systems. You seem to cover anything and everything even the bad games or systems and I really enjoy that. This channel has really broadened my taste in video games and I have you MJ to thank for it👍
Yo MJR I took some advice from your channel and visited the Pink Gorilla in Seattle near WU. Awesome store and very jealous you have such a great store accessible to you! Also, the employees there definitely knew who you were and said nice things about you! Anyways, keep up the great videos!
I absolutely love Primal! Rygar was pretty good too, also Jet Li's Rise to Honor. A few more I can think of are Odin Sphere, Demon Stone, Rule of Rose, the Legacy of Kain series, Bunjingai, Nightshade, Clock Tower 3, Champions of Norrath.
I love Mr Mosquito! Also own every released Wild Arms game. The only thing I'm missing is the cardboard outside for Wild Arms 5. I have 177 games for my PS2. It's the second largest group of games in my collection. The largest being the PS3 with 232. There are a few hidden gems on the PS3 as well.
Some really great games I've played on the ps2 are Chaos Legion, Legend of Legia 2, and Dark Cloud. Loved them when i was growing up and still hold up today.
Beat Primal tonight finally after having watched this video and then buying the game two years ago!!! I suffered from collecting burn out a lot back then so I would play an hour of primal one day and then just play other ps2 games. Thanks Metal Jesus for getting me into the ps2 and collecting!
War of the Monsters. YES. I've been waiting for you to cover this game, MJR. I remember my friend and I had one of those Jam Pack Demo discs that had this game on it. We played it to DEATH, until finally making a trip to Blockbuster and renting it multiple times :) Great stuff.
Ditto. I made a video about this game a few weeks ago on my channel, it goes a little more in depth. I had the demo as well and I remember playing it over and over so many times that not a single building was left standing in that level!
Theres a killer Shmup for PC called Symphony that builds levels based off your music collection. You battle demons to save the souls of your favorite bands.
Love your videos brother, they help me determine how to fill up my PS2 HDD. I used to have a huge PHYSICAL collection of RPGs (NES/SNES/PSX/PS2) but had to sell em when time got tough. Some day maybe I will be able to retain the games I owned. Love your chan thanks for the years of Retro love and entertainment.
Nice to see Primal mentioned. I originally only picked it up because one of my favorite bands was featured in it, 16 Volt. Luckily the game was pretty fun too boot, definitely a gem of a game.
Magical Pengel was my favorite game on the ps2 and if I remember correctly, it was my very first game to preorder. Not many remember this game even though it was an artistic game. The design of the game resemble MiyazKi films which I grew up with so this game holds dear to my heart as well. Btw, keep up the good work Metal Jesus. You rock.
I have bought to many of the games mentioned in your videos recently.(mainly from the Wii, DS, and Game Cube, I find myself watching the videos multiple times just so I can remember. I now have a pile of games I still need to play through. Every one so far has been awesome though.
Some interesting gems I have that I really like that not a lot of people know about are Bujingai: The Forsaken City, Future Tactics, The Red Star, Castle of Shikigami 2, and Chaos Legion.
Wow, I remember seeing that "Primal" game on a PS2 magazine, years and years ago, advertising its release along with the first Getaway. lol, good times.
Okage! This was one of my "must get" games for the PS2... but, I still haven't finished it. I'll get to it, I swear! Primal is another one I saw and knew I had to get, even though I hadn't heard many people talk about it, so it was nice to see someone else likes it, too!
I have to say, my all time favorite PS2 hidden gem is undoubtedly Freaky Flyers… great humor, memorable cast of characters, tons of challenging and gorgeous levels, and the racing platform is just all-around awesome (AND you can opt for some quite engaging dog-fights).
Yesss!!! Finally a video that talks about Primal. I was almost going mad thinking I was the only one who loved it back in the day. I'll always remember it because a store had some competition where you played EyeToy (or some crap like that) against an employee and if you won you got to choose from a selection of games, and Primal was the only one that interested me. The trick was that it was MA15+ and I was only 13 or 14 at the time. Heh heh heh. Unfortunately I didn't take it or the PS2 with me when I moved out so I only have vague memories of it, but I remember it being really fun! I'll have to get a used system and used copy one day.
Ape Escape 3 I consider to be the most underrated of the series, it's often the least favorite of everyone, but I personally really love it, you should try it out Metaljesus
There's a game called Steambot Chronicles that if you haven't checked out you should. Its a sandbox style game with crazy controls and a non-linear story. I picked it up when it first released for around $65. Was not disappointed. Lots of customization and decent dialogue...and perhaps the funnest billiards mini game ever.

The PS2 has over 1,850 games released in North America alone. How many do you have in your PS2 collection so far?
Maybe round about 120 - 130 + Playstation 2 (european) games. 90% of this are carefully selected. At first I was never that much into Playstation in general.
But like you mentioned, there are a ton of really great games for the systems of all genres.

Good picks! Everytime I watch these videos I end up adding more games to my list :D
Me to 😊
Manhunt was a solid survival game with some brutal stealth attacks...plus with Brian Cox doing the narration made it even better!
Just bought Mr Mosquito on the strength of this video. Tisn't often that happens. Nice work :D
I have been on the lookout for a copy to.

good games, but they got really expensive these last few years.
Koudelka, which was the predecessor of Shadow Hearts, is even more criminally underrated. Extremely unique game and very obscure on the ps1.
Man I miss those days... I really enjoyed the part where you didn't tell me that I had to buy the dlc to play the good parts of the games.
The Maximo and Klanoa titles are indeed fantastic. But can they really be considered "hidden"? I always believed it to be a rather popular title. Of course it is your own personal subjective list. Who am I to judge.

-so not popular enough that the hd versions didnt sell enough and thus we wont see a zoe before long
-now ppl will go to the hd and collectors will go to war with each other for the OGs
Nemo003
my problem with dot hack is they are old enough to still obey the obsolete shitty japanese rpg ways which is tons of meaningless fighting and weak to horribly weaker *save the world* story bullshit. so not for me because i watched the tv series and were horribly disatisfyied so i like the art, but that's about it.
Shadow of Memories/Destiny is a great adventure game. Gregory Horror Show is another great gem with very unique gameplay. Gitaroo Man is my favourite rhythm game and it's a great challenge. The PS2 has more hidden gems than any other console by far, amazing system!
You should check out:
- B.Boy the game
- Urban Reign
- The Red Star
- Gradius V
- Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the north Star
- The Bouncer
- Ghost Hunter
- Cold Winter
- Black
- Viewtiful Joe
- Gungrave Overdose
He talked about Cold Winter on part 1 of his PS2 Gems video :)
TheKosmicKollector
oh sorry, right.my bad
Urban Reign is one of the best ps2 games!
Waldemarne Ferenczy
yeah, mine too. Almost better than Def Jam Fight for NY.
From your list I also love Gradius V, Black, Viewtiful Joe and Gungrave
My all time favorite PS2 game is a pretty unknown gem called Steambot Chronicles. It's a sandbox style, steam punk, mech RPG. One of my all time favorite games, period.
Good choice, I forgot to mention it. It's pretty under the radar and a great game.
Your shirt.
Also nice new transition.
Just found your channel man. Legend of Kay was one of my favorite games on ps2 and it saddens me to see that no one i know played it. Good Shout man.
Metal jesus turns watered down games into wine
autism everwhere
Nice Cowboy Bebop shirt!
I find it incredible how fast you can pump out videos with a consistent high quality like these. Nice work.
Aww no Chaos Legion...not..hidden enough?
Adam Block Never played it...although I probably should
Its pretty good hack & slash with a Gothic design and graphics. You control deffirent "legions" of monsters which either attack or defend you. Also an RPG element to it.
Adam Block That game was amazing
Byron Sullivan I know I don't know where my copy of it went. I need to find it. I've been wanting another play through of it
Mine was played so much that it's practically unplayable :(
I love my PS 2. I got it with controllers and three games for 5 dollars. It works perfect. I took it apart and cleaned it too. Now I'm buying the games Metal is suggesting. Your a great channel host Metal, I watch your videos all the time, and I'm 53 years old!
Shinibido
Richard Smith i played the sequel on the vita, it was a fun ninja simulator
Legaia 2 is a super sweet RPG with combo based combat. If you haven't tried it, you should.
Motocross Mania 3 was awesome! Such a hidden gem!
la pucelle tactics. its got a pretty gripping storyline. the art is pretty good for a turn based tactical rpg of the time. and the list of obtainable characters is in the hundreds. its developement system is pretty cool too. its one of my personal all time favorites
your description of Primal is spot on. Definitely one of the greats.
War of the Monsters! I love that game. It was so well made for a relatively unknown game. In fact, it made me a little disappointed when I finally played Rampage for the first time and realized it wasn't nearly as in-depth.
I keep seeing a TV show in your future. A great presenter and with cool games that hold gamer history value. Thanks again for your time.
PS2 is my fav console of all time, my top 3 were Star Wars Battlefront 2, SlyCooper series and DBZ Budokai 3
Just played through Maximo and had so much fun playing through it. Wish there was a newer one
Soldier Of Fortune Gold Edition, Die Hard Vendetta, True Crime 1&2, Tony Hawks, Canis Canum Edit, X111, Manhunt, Warriors, so many good ps2 games
Can I just say that your Hidden Gem videos are among the best type of gaming video in the youtube gaming community. Can't wait for more
I love Mr Mosquito!
Mister Mosquito was a game I rented a few times as a kid, it really stuck in my memory and I'd love to own it someday
I did the same thing!
Ditto. I made a video about this game a few weeks ago on my channel, it goes a little more in depth. I had the demo as well and I remember playing it over and over so many times that not a single building was left standing in that level!
MJR?
Matt Gamingcomicsanimation Metal Jesus Rocks...MJR
relewis2011, is War of the Monsters better than the two Godzilla/Gojira PS2 video games?
Theres a killer Shmup for PC called Symphony that builds levels based off your music collection. You battle demons to save the souls of your favorite bands.
All of these games were ones I loved back in the day. I always enjoyed games that were off the mainstream; something unique.
Such a Great Vid MJR, Love your longer videos. I just put about half of these on my list!
Wow. You actually did some research and wrote down some kind of script for this video. It really shows. The quality went up tenfold. Good job.
Nice to see Primal mentioned. I originally only picked it up because one of my favorite bands was featured in it, 16 Volt. Luckily the game was pretty fun too boot, definitely a gem of a game.
Holy crap! Did you raid my PS2 collection? Ride Gone Wild, Aqua Aqua, War of the Monsters, Maximo. So much fun!
Gundam federation vs zeon deluxe, absolutely FANTASTIC game
Wow, I remember seeing that "Primal" game on a PS2 magazine, years and years ago, advertising its release along with the first Getaway. lol, good times.
GunGriffon!!! almost forgot about that game, bought it at EB years ago because the cover looks awesome and it was $2, very well spent.
Okage! This was one of my "must get" games for the PS2... but, I still haven't finished it. I'll get to it, I swear! Primal is another one I saw and knew I had to get, even though I hadn't heard many people talk about it, so it was nice to see someone else likes it, too!
Finally! cant get enough of you hidden gem videos
Thank you for mentioning Maximo!! Still one of my favorite PS2 titles to this day!!
I have to say, my all time favorite PS2 hidden gem is undoubtedly Freaky Flyers… great humor, memorable cast of characters, tons of challenging and gorgeous levels, and the racing platform is just all-around awesome (AND you can opt for some quite engaging dog-fights).
Oh, Klonoa 2. One of my favorite games of all time!
I would add 3 hidden gems.
1. PS2 King's Field IV.
2. PS2 Trapt Deception IV.
3. PS2 Tokobots.
Mister Mosquito and Disaster Report seem like cool games.
Here goes my binge watch of metal Jesus hidden Gems videos 👍👍👍👍👍
Great vid man. Yes the great ps2 has many great obscure games that simply fell in the shadow of its many big budget titles.
Just stumbled across your hidden gem series. Good stuff dude! These games look so good
Totally love that tee shirt! One PS2 fav of mine that seems pretty hidden was Nightshade. Sequel to Shinobi for PS2. Many weird characters.
