    My local rep delivered an Invikta Power Air, 7.9 oz to my morning group today. After playing with it for a couple of hours I listened to your review. I didn’t try the Project 002 so I can’t comment on that part of your impressions - but the rest was spot on.
    My regular paddle is the Electrum E. I like the soft touch of that paddle, but it definitely sacrifices a bit of power. Over head shots with the PowerAir are bullets comparatively speaking.
    The Power Air added pace to my 3rds from the baseline. In fact, my 3Rds, 5ths, etc performance was higher than normal because the shape and pace I prefer were easier to create with the PowerAir.
    On the other hand, returns of serve were a bit baffling. I hit a pretty soft, backspin return. I couldn’t get control of depth until I started adding some power. This left me hurrying to the NVL. I’ll need to practice.
    The one thing you didn’t mention…the sound. This paddle has a distinctive pop. Not good or bad, just very different.
    Thanks for the great reviews. Yours are the best.

    The grit lasted 2-3 weeks on mine. Spin and power was diminished compared to day one, so I returned it. I think at $250 it's laughable for the performance to drop so quickly.

    I got a chance to test drive the invikta today I felt like the ball popped off the face quite a bit, and also did find myself driving the ball WAY more than I normally would.... not my style, but still fun to play with!

    I have the S2 Power Air, and at first I had the same issue with “dead hits” around the perimeter. I then added heavy lead tape (1.42g per in.) around the top half of the head and that did wonders! It expanded the sweet spot almost all the way to the edges. It helped with dinking, yet I had to be careful on the drives because the extra weight gave it additional “humff” and ball would go slightly long.
    Highly suggest lead tape. The paddle is light enough to add the additional weight, especially the S2 (won’t be too head heavy)

      I'm in the market for a great all around paddle, lots of spin, and big sweet spot. The S2 power air is at the top of my list now. After a month or so woukd you still recommend your S2? Maybe recommend a different shape?

    • @P4rkerMann

      @@Pearagon10 I did! Found someone selling a new one for $200. Absolutely LOVE IT. I don't really need the "boost" in power that the invikta has, but I really lack in consistency. So the S2 was PERFECT. However the handle is very very small and the grip sucks. I've since put an over grip on but my sweaty hands just don't like many grips HAHA.
      I've been able to handle all three shapes of the power air, and the epic has a muchhh nicer handle in terms of length. If you wanna two hand, get the epic hands down. The s2 and epic are identical widths, but the s2 is a little lengthier.
      I doubt you'd see much of a performance difference between the two tho.
      So longer handle, get the epic, longer face, get the s2.
      Overall, TONS of power even in the s2, huuuge sweet spot, lots of spin. The perfect paddle for me. Hope tgat helps!

    A lot of talking about the 002, but the majority of people might have the classic Ampes series.
    I bought the S2 a year ago.
    Any comments on how different the Power Air feels compared to Amped?
    I don’t like the fact it’s 13mm wide instead of 16mm…but I guess that’s what makes it more power orientated. Less cushion=more power.
    Anyways thanks in advance!

    Next time he have a paddle that seems like it's intended for singles, can we focus on the singles aspect? Doubles is lame enough and over played as it is, can we get something singles related, especially on an elongated power paddle?

    One thing of interest is that both this paddle and the 003 are now labeled as "Assembled in the USA" as opposed to "Made in the USA". Looks as if the edgeless construction is beyond the capabilities of their US factory and it is being manufacture off-shore. "Assembled" could mean as little as the grip being applied on US soil. I've got no issues with this whatsoever as that's just the nature of the beast now that paddles are starting to require more advanced construction techniques.

    Once again, an amazing and thoughtful review! I did read on the Just Paddles site that they also implemented a "FlexFoam Perimeter". Sounds a lot like the foam wall that Joola introduced with the Hyperion. I currently have the Hyperion and feel like the foam injection is what makes it have less dead spots and the balance between going power and dinking. I'd love to hear your thoughts on if you feel the foam walls is a new trend in paddle design or just a gimmick.

    • @PickleballStudio
      @PickleballStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely doesn’t seem like a gimmick to me. Seems like zero consequence of them adding it and logically it makes sense. It’s the reason less tape on the sides makes a paddle feel more stable.

      @@808Faith nice! computers.... I agree. I think having the mass of the foam on the edges gives it some counter mass to make the edges less dead. While lead tape achieves a similar goal, its nice to have it baked into the construction and to know the guys with the engineering degrees thought through the placement and density. I think we're going to see this a lot more in the future. The trick will be if each brand can come up with some fancy marketing name for it other than "foam on the edge". 🙂

      @jamesaguirre2537 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean “bungled?”

    • @JustinPowellConsulting
      @JustinPowellConsulting 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamesaguirre2537 Gearbox was the only paddle on the market that had good design (Kennex is meh) and has a great product. They did what classic companies run by product designer do: market features and product specs. However, they never talked about any of the problems that their product solved or talked about the inherit pain points that the majority of other paddles have (broken handles, cracked edge guards, broken honeycomb). They played it safe in the market and didn’t wish the knife on the problems in other brands/products. They also don’t sponsor pro players….which makes some people wonder if gearbox paddles are good enough for top players. Whether we like it or not, seeing pros playing with certain gear (shoes, paddle, shirts, water bottles, etc) does make a different type of brand impression.
      But now Selkirk is in the edge less paddle world and they are invested in marketing. Sponsoring tournaments, players, an app…is it conincedence that Tyson McGuggin has a write up in magazine talking about he’s the most electrifying athlete on the very same day they release 3 new paddles? Maybe, but probably not. Was it a coincidence that the same week they launched the Project 003 paddle that they were sponsoring a major tournament? Selkirk is a marketing machine and clearly has good strategy, good sponsorships, good design, good customer service and good branding.
      So when I say Gearbox bungled their opportunity, this is what I mean. They were first to the market, but don’t know how to hold that market position. They may end up being the blackberry of pickleball. Sucks because I think they make great stuff but they need a different story other than, “our technology is better” (which is completely subjective).

    • @PickleballStudio
      @PickleballStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think for Patrick he probably thinks that the 002 is a bit better because you have access to more power and generally singles having more power is a much better benefit than having more control.
      and yup! Different surfaces. I think all three of the project paddles have used different surfaces from each other as well as the Vanguard line.

  • @indyglf
    @indyglf 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don’t see why there is a hole in the paddle. That’s not a hitting area, so why have it there at all? Designed with a surface, as if there were a horizontal cut above the hole, you’d have the same hitting area, even more aerodynamic with the option of a longer handle. Take the few extra grams of weight and distribute it as to increase the sweet spot. I’d give it points for having a distinctive look.

    I’ve had this paddle for two months now and is my main paddle for both singles and doubles. Love the paddle but the face has become super smooth on the sweet spot similar to how Ben Johns Franklin did back in the day. Have you tested the spin after the face loses the texture? Just curious. Not sure if you mentioned this somewhere else.

    • @PickleballStudio
      @PickleballStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did retest my power air after months of use and it was still very high spin. But, I primarily used it for singles and not doubles.
      I’ve heard several complaints about it smoothing out (which is expected with basically every paddle) but so far it hasn’t been my experience. I’ve used the 003 Epic and 003 Invikta *very* extensively and grit is still going strong.
      The main one I retested was a 002 that got used very hard by my brother and after 2-3 months it was still doing about 1600RPM.

    • @artslim1
      @artslim1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PickleballStudio I can confirm the face gets super smooth. I use it a lot. 4-5 times a week for 2 months and it got super smooth, like baby bottom smooth. 😂. Selkirk always has great customer service.

  • @TonyDL

    Another great review! I'd love to hear how this is different than Gearbox stuff. Did Selkirk manage to hold onto some of the core aspects of their feel, but make it edgeless? I'd also love to hear if people who have jumped on the Joola train would consider switching to this one. I'd also be curious to see videos that compare and contrast some of the more popular paddles out there.
