I used to play with crbn 1x and those are super powerful. Unfortunately that power is a double edged sword for a player like me so I then switched to the 6.0 Ruby which contrary to what people say had nowhere near the power I was used to. I really missed the power, BUT my game improved immensely just from the consistency and control so I realized it's not always about the paddle that feels the strongest, it's about the paddle that keeps you in games. Getting to my point here, I just bought the Vanguard pro in the epic shape because it was more similar to the Ruby shape I am used to and I have a very weird sideways topspin shots I use alot in games so I actually like the width. This paddle is great for me. I can crank serves and they have crazy topspin but little enough power that they are consistently in. Vs my crbn 1x I had the fastest serves I've ever seen anyone serve but about a 3rd of them went out so it wasn't even worth doing my hard serves unless I was really up in a game. Moral of the story is for people that can generate their own power, a control paddle wins for me every time. I'm 29 and I don't need the extra power from the paddle. Just makes me inconsistent. So far I like this paddle but I am in the adjustment period I have whenever I change paddles.
This is one of my favorite paddles for its shape and how much control it gives you. Like you said you can generate your own power, and have the great touch and feel. If price point isn’t too high then it’s a great paddle to recommend.
What other paddles do you recommend over this? I am trying to pick from an Olympus or this. I tried the Vanguad Invikta but not the pro, I Liked it but it lacks power. I can generate my own power coming from a tennis and badminton background.
Paddleteks bantam series is good but pricey. Obviously the Joola 3s and and Mod TA are what you want if you are looking for power. I’ve been critical of the idea of power paddles in my videos, but these paddles are the best on the market. Great value with good performance are the Honolulu pickleball line and the monarchs from 11six24. I always say if you can demo that is best. Other than that just watch a lot of reviews and try to see what stands out to you.
The Bread and Butter Shogun is also a very solid paddle. Aizec from Pickleball studio loves that paddle as it’s all court, but he can generate his own power as well.
It has a much more plush feel, slightly bigger sweet spot. Both paddles have good spin, and both paddles have decent power but lean more all court. Then there is the shape options you get with the Vanguard Pro vs the hybrid shape of the Ruby.
Is it worth it? With what's out there already with the same specs and better quality and innovation.. Selkirk too expensive for regular thermoformed paddle from China. Many comparables have been from $100‐$150 USD.. So it's not worth it for the price and coming out with something that is gen 2 tech in my opinion. 🤷♂️
Completely agree. Thats why I highlight if you are a fan of Selkirk. They finally after 1.5 years have a paddle that’s comparable to most paddles on the market. Also, as I mentioned I would still recommend the slk halo pro’s over this due to price.
@@JJPickleball plus I've been chuckling 🤭 since day 1 when people kept paying high prices for paint grit on the Power Air and Luxx. But I was treated like a conspiracy theorists then until now where the conspiracy is proven facts. However, I do like Selkirk S1 balls for its quality and durability. Especially their customer service experience. 👍

How does the Selkirk Vanguard Pro play compared to the 6.0 Ruby

Similar to the Vatic Pro V7 Prism?
Definitely a familiar feel.

4 layer face, 16mm and under 8oz?? OO7 with "new" paint grit that claims to outlast peel ply?? Well see about that.
I’ll be getting the 007 shortly. Will certainly be testing that paddle out to see if this new grit works long term.
When Bread and Butter sells their best paddles at under $200, it makes most, if not all, more expensive paddles not worth it!
They make some great stuff. Still love my Shogun!
