Sorrento Hilton Review 2020 | The Quietest Hotel We’ve Ever Stayed In

  • Where to stay in Sorrento? We stayed at the Hilton Sorrento Palace in October 2020 during the pandemic, but what we did we think?
Let's start with the positives, it offers fantastic views of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. It has several pools but we didn't get to use them as they aren't heated and it wasn't warm enough.
Location wise it is located in a quiet area of Sorrento about 10 mins from the centre of town.
On the negative side we didn't like our room, it's not very Hilton and in our opinion was decorated more like an 'IBIS' hotel. Because of Covid the hotel felt like the quietest hotel ever, a ghost hotel with barely a person in sight, this is due to the pandemic obviously and people not travelling, but it felt very strange for us as guests to be in a massive hotel and feel like we were the ones there, except for breakfast which was the only time we saw any other guests.
In conclusion for those wanting to know where to stay in Sorrento this hotel is massive and in normal times during the summer months we can well imagine how amazing a stay you could have here including a great terrace and Executive lounge with exclusive pool, and we would come back and stay again in normal times but not during COVID

Man oh man, I am a diamond member and stayed in the Hilton Sorrento palace 1 or twice a year since the last 27 years. How dare you compare it with an Ibis hotel.
I stayed already in Hiltons in different parts of the world, and every Hilton is different. There does not exist a typical Hilton "style".
Of course it was quiet, I was there in September 20 and it was also very quiet. (Covid, heard of ?).
You really do not know what you are talking about. It is one of the best hotels I stayed in. (Why do you think we come back every year for 27 years ?).
How amazing that Gold member is the second from the top.... It is also the second from the bottom (of course "from the top" sounds better.... I advise you both to re-read the general conditions of HH. (a ridiculous number of nights to get tot gold status ????) . Prima donnas ? you both are real prima donnas if you keep whining about that upgrade.
You have got a very large and nice room, with a real colourful design and a magnificent view. (Before complaining about that, inform yourself and look to the colourful style of most of the hotelrooms on the Amalfi coast. What do you expect as an upgrade ? A suite ?
And there is one thing that frustrates me : you never mentioned with one word the people who work in the hotel. They give every day the best of themselves to give the customers a nice stay. (and I know what I am talking about, re the 27 years I come to this hotel)
Next time you come to the Amalfi coast (because you both are without any doubt real experts on the region), stay at a small hotel. Please do. We won't miss you.

As we’ve said to someone else who had a similar idealistic view about this hotel you need to accept that people have differing opinions and to basically get a life and not get offended by an individuals opinion.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful and also very boring if everyone liked everything and no one ever disliked anything.
So basically all we will say to you is get a grip, we are entitled to our opinion. We didn’t like it but our review was balanced and we duly acknowledged it was not normal times and I n fact said we would return in normal times to compare and see if our experience was different, guessing you missed that or ignored it.

I agree on the recognition. I mean- sounds like they have plenty of rooms available.

I've stayed at the Hilton Palace twice and on the Amalfi Coast a total of 5 times. These guys have no idea what they are talking about - of course it's quiet, you're there off season in a pandemic! One of the best things about the HP is that it is quiet (i.e. not noisy) even when nearer capacity). It is a beautiful, clean hotel with fantastic decor and anyone who needs a taxi to the town centre from there (except when with luggage) is simply lazy. It has beautiful gardens and I've eaten in the bar, the large dining room, the terrace and outside in the lemon grove gardens and it's superb. There seems to be a basic lack of research and perspective here - after all, one of these reviewers had to be reminded that the view was of Vesuvius. I suspect the vast majority of hotels were quiet in October 2020 given the world situation...sheesh!

Are you on commission from Hilton or something. We are entitled to have a view and we didn’t like it but our review was balanced and we clearly acknowledged the current situation and that we would return in normal times to compare.
We walked to town every night so not sure what you are talking about with that point. But later on we got a cab back once but it was expensive. So what is your issue with that exactly?
I love the fact you’ve eaten at the bar. How awesome for you congratulations. Unfortunately for us it wasn’t an option as it wasn’t open so not sure what your point is if that.
The outside area is lovely but again we couldn’t experience that due to weather and fact nothing was really open so again what’s your point?
You refer to a basic lack of research, well we were staying in the hotel so not sure what other research was required. This review is based on our actual stay at the hotel which feels like the required level of research so please do clarify what other research you feel we should have done before providing our views?
And finally your point about Mt Vesuvius is pretty petty, it was a funny moment that you’ve taken completely out of context.

Totally agree, see my answer. (Patrizio Ganda) Those two have indeed no idea at all what they are talking about. The biggest favour they can give us, is simply stay away from Sorrento and the Amalfi coast.....

I agree with Ivan I didn't care for the room it looked to drab to me no color and a cold feel rate it a C needs some color to it! best part of the Hotel was the view and the location.

Hi Ginny, thanks for your comment. Yes, the location was really good and the views were fantastic! It just didn't feel like your average Hilton. Cold is a good way to describe the room but the destination really made up for it. A beautiful part of the world!

Well I'm going there next week. Most basic room booked and HH Diamond status. Let's see how far up they bump me in terms of room. I will have access to the lounge regardless. About it being too quiet, I don't think I would mind, I would even like it more perhaps, but that's just the kind of person I am. I've always asked if there's upgrade availability upon check in, even before knowing if they have proactively processed an upgrade themselves. You wouldn't know how many times across Hilton chain properties I only got it for asking. It shouldn't be like this but it is, and not only within Hilton brand. Did you at any point during check in ask if there was any upgrade availability?

We asked at check in mate and was told nothing was available 😟

I stayed at the Sorrento Palace back in 1997, before it had Hilton status. I liked it, probably the best hotel I ever stayed in. But I think I must have gone during lookalike week, because there were dead ringers for John Malkovich and Dustin Hoffman staying there.

I agree with Ivan ... the room decor is COLD! As a Hilton Honors member, I agree that you should have been acknowledged as a Gold Member ... not to do so is poor business practice. I don’t think I would think of staying at that property again but that’s just me.

Nice review men. Looks like it had a great view of the city. Shame you couldn't make use of the pool. We were in the Hotel Conca Park just below your hotel. Our rooms were just as sterile as yours. But, great location to walk into town. Loved Sorrento.

Hi Song, thanks for your comment. Yes, it was close to our hotel, Ryans parents have stayed at the Conca Park before.
