You are by far the best teacher of crochet on YT! Very concise, camera close enough, patient in your demo of stitches… you simply cover everything clearly! … oh, and no music! Perfection all the way around.
I am British but live in Pennsylvania, USA and taught myself to crochet in July. I have really caught the crochet bug and love blankets. I found your channel and it's great to have clear instructions. I love your blankets and am currently making your gingham style blanket. It looks fabulous and I love it.
I have tried loads of TH-cam tutorials for absolute beginners and frogged everything because I was getting lost mid instruction. Your vid really got me moving forward. The fact that everything was repeated several times with commentary every time and you said no one is judging the work made me relax more. The photography and choice of yarn made it clear what each step did. I’m not very good but YOU made me persevere. There is a reassurance in your voice and also a light heartedness in your delivery. Thank you from a person who thought they were stupid because everyone makes it look so simple and yet I wasn’t getting it. If anyone is on the edge of throwing in the crochet towel give this lady a chance. She made me feel it was possible and I am chaining; single and double crocheting - SLOWLY, but I don’t mind. THANK YOU
Awwh, you are so welcome and you are 100% not stupid.🤗 It is just practice and time. You should have seen of my first crochet when I was learning.🤦♂️ I am glad you have kept going - you can do this.x
I have to say… I watched my great grandmother crocheting for years… I was never able to master it. When I watches this I could hear my grandmother saying “you’re holding your hook wrong” 45 years later and watching this video I finally understand what she meant! This video was great I “think” I finally understand! 😂 🧶
This was great.. I just started looking into crocheting. And wanted to find someone before I bought anything. You are great. Now I feel like I can get a beginner kit and just start trying. Then, use your videos to help me progress. Thank you!
Many thanks. I taught a kids crochet class in the spring and the most difficult part was the first row of single crochet into the chain because their tension on the chain was too tight. When I teach them again, I'll start off their ball of yarn with the first row in place so they can get the rhythm down. I have heard a lot of knitters say they started out with just the knit stitch after their teacher cast on for them.
This is sooooo great for beginners like my granddaughter! I think she has the single double and now the half double down but I sent this to her anyways. Thanks! 💕💕
Thank you for this really clear and well explained tutorial! I really struggle following other tutorials and get so confused about which hole to go through, what’s the first stitch etc. you’ve inspired me to dig out my hooks and have another go 💜
I only briefly watched a video that popped up on my Facebook page and I was “hooked “ on your amazing teaching skills. I’m a beginner and have watched hundreds of tutorials and you by far hands down are the best! 😊 thank you!
Two of my granddaughters and one of my grandsons are all learning to crochet, and getting quite skilled at it! It makes me happy to see this beautiful, useful and satisfying craft being learned by a new generation. Thank you for this excellent refresher course on the basics! 😊
hiya robin! nice of you to think of the beginners. im fairly self taught (many decades before YT!!) and this would have been a blessing! have a terrific week! xoxo
Robin, thank you. You cut to the chase which is excellent when teaching even when you do tutorials you stay focused. Nothing worse than videos where people need to waffle about the yarn, the texture bla, bla boring and annoying. You are by far the best teacher! Thank you for that.
Hooked by Robin, you are my favorite online crochet teacher. Your delivery is clear, the videos are excellent, and the instructions are doable. I only wish you were a Lefty. That is the bane of my crochet journey. I've tried several of the patterns you offered and have some fun things I'm proud of. Please keep posting.

Your instructions are so in depth I finally was able to do it. It’s not perfect, but you remind us to concentrate on learning the stitch and not perfection. Thank you. I have two skeins of Bernat baby blanket yarn and I’m going to make a little blanket with single and double crochets.
Oh my goodness. I haven't done this in over 30 years ( I'm 60) and recently decided, after relearning how to sew and creating a wonderful capsule wardrobe, that I needed to relearn how to crochet. My goal is to add a few handmade cardigans and pullover sweaters to my wardrobe. I like your videos. I will surely need to practice my stitches before tackling a sweater. I'm giving myself the spring to improve if not perfect and will spend the summer and autumn actually making the garments. My great grandmother used to crochet and I have the afghan she made before my mother was even born. It's a lovely piece.
Woww I'm learning how to crochet and this video helped me most! I scrolled and scrolled, finally I came across this one! I'm so glad I came across your channel! Your the best crocheting teacher on TH-cam!!!❤

What hook size do you recommend beginning with? I got my first a 3.5mm because the storeowner told me its a nice begginner's size but I am finding working with it quite hard due to loops being so small. Is it because I am an absolute begginner or because 3.5mm hook is not recommended for beginners? 🤔
I'd definitely recommend a larger hook and some thicker yarn to start it - it means you will be clearly able to see your stitches :) I tend to suggest a chunky yarn with a 6mm to start x
I'm in the "there is no right/wrong way" camp as well. I (right hand dominant) learned to crochet by sitting across from my left handed Sister (Robin you WILL laugh til you hurt over that one😉) she held her yarn totally wacky bonkers and I just followed suit...to this day my left hand looks like its trying to take flight! It's ALL good Ladies & Gents....its whats comfortable to/for you😁!
I have a question. I've watched another crotchet channel. She refers the single as either american or I believe European. Can you please say whether or not your single is American or European? I'm a beginner
The single crochet is an American term :) I have a full list of the differences between the 2 terms here: www.hookedbyrobin.com/crochet-stitch-conversions
Now you've learnt the 3 core stitch techniques, try this one next! th-cam.com/video/RwnArj7HdXo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jbPys2H1nS72GAUO 👈😃🧶

Is it because I am an absolute begginner or because 3.5mm hook is not recommended for beginners? 🤔
I'd definitely recommend a larger hook and some thicker yarn to start it - it means you will be clearly able to see your stitches :)
I tend to suggest a chunky yarn with a 6mm to start x
Thanks so much😂
You’re welcome Kathy!😃
Thankyou
You’re welcome Iris!😃🧶
I love your tutorials. I want to make a sleep buddy doll (bear or bunny )for my granddaughter. Do you have a tutorial for one. ?
I’m afraid I don’t.🤗x

So cute!
So every corner we always do 3 chains to start the next row?
“No one cares what this little sample will look like”. My brain: 🤪😅
😂
Robin your hands are beautiful.what kind of nail polish do you use?
I use these: www.amazon.co.uk/shop/hookedbyrobin/list/23WA0CO7FF3LO?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsflist_aipsfhookedbyrobin_ZP409DSKNN07GY9VR4RF 😃
Very nice 🌹🌼🌷🍀🌸⚘️🌻🪻🌺
Thank you so much Luna!😃🤗
The only skill I would add for beginners is how to properly hold the working yarn in the "non-hook" hand.
I don't believe there's a wrong way to hold the yarn. I hold mine in an "unusual" way, but it gets the job done and it's comfortable for me.
I'm definitely in the "there's no right or wrong way to hold yarn" camp - I have a very unusual yarn hold myself 😅🧶
I’ve tried to hold my yarn like Robin does but I just can’t do it. I think everyone has their own method that works for them.
Thank you Robin - every tutorial that you kindly share with us is educational and appreciated ! ❤
Why does everyone skip that first stitch? That’s the only way I got my edges straight
I have a question. I've watched another crotchet channel. She refers the single as either american or I believe European. Can you please say whether or not your single is American or European? I'm a beginner
The single crochet is an American term :)
I have a full list of the differences between the 2 terms here: www.hookedbyrobin.com/crochet-stitch-conversions

You missed a stitch . Half double crochet stitch. That goes in between single and double crochet stitch stitches.
I am showing the 3 stitches that will teach all the techniques to be able to do any other stitch with ease (like the half double etc)

If you learn to do a single and a double, you will easily do a half double - that is Robin’s point!
