I find myself returning to all these To pimp a butterfly tracks. It's scary how powerful and swept to the side this album is/was. Absolutely infinite power of perspective.
Assassin's feature on this is so fucking nasty, nobody talks about it. "I said they treat me like a slave, cah' me black Woi, we feel a whole heap of pain, cah' we black And man a say they put me inna chains, cah' we black Imagine now, big gold chains full of rocks How you no see the whip, left scars pon' me back But now we have a big whip parked pon' the block All them say we doomed from the start, cah' we black Remember this, every race start from the block, just remember that"
I think it would be cool, especially for songs like this that are lyrically dense, to do a part at then end on camera where you read the Genius page. It would be fun to see you understand some of the lines that, understandably, went over yours and many others heads the first listen.
The hardest line to me aside from the message is still the “I’m African American, I’m African, I’m black as the heart of a fucking Aryan” Like saying that’s as close as y’all get
Yeah the whole album has a lot of messages within each song, it’s truly one cohesive piece.
The whole album is like this. After the ending of each song there’s a message that leads up to the outro.
Its a movie basically its art
the ending beat/sample at the very end of the song is called curly martin by terrace martin
This whole album is GOLDEN!!!
Kendrick is a GOAT!
no doubts no questions
he aint 'ok'.
he otherworldly, on a higher level.
gotta put on some years to truly appreciate.
